As we countdown the days to Football Manager 2020 I thought it would be fun to take a trip down memory lane and play some of the older Football Manager titles. Today we're on FM09 playing as Southampton in the first-ever 3D match engine!

Just a small correction, FM09 was the first game in the series with a 3D match engine and not the 2nd iteration. Also apologies for the cursor and mouse not lining up in the recording... that's an issue with these older games. Hopefully you enjoy this slightly different upload, let me know if you'd like to see more for all the games leading up to FM20!
This is a great idea for a series in the run up to the new game. I look forward to this journey in the hope it speeds up time and we have the new Beta soon. Great to see these oldies that I spent so many hours on. This one in particular I played at a really happy time in my life.

This was when FM was still at it's best, these were the times when most of us started to get addicted to this game, although i started to play from 98 and other titles like premier league manager 98 and F.A premier league manager 2001, but 2008 and 09 was the real kickstarter, not the crap they sell us today. I feel.they make the game unnecessary complicated, just to tell us we "changed" and "improved " the game. Back then they put an emphasis on fun and progression, nowdays it's all about marketing and sale stats.
There were team talks in fm07. I know someone who is still playing his fm07 save with Partizan, currently in year 2187.
Wait...wasn't the world record like 153 years?
@@bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Don't know about the fm07 record but the world record for any FM version is around a 220 year save.
How can one play for so many years? I can only last 5 seasons.

fm08 is my all time favourite, but fm09 has fond memories, especially being the first with 3d engine.

also think the best way to do these vids is maybe to see what the big new features were for that years game and look at them, plus a few players then end on a match. so you can see year on year how the game changed

FM12 would be worth a look. That is a version many rate as a great FM.
In 10 years you'll play FM 2020 and find that prehistorical
trip down memory lane. Although the 3 league things was on the basic setup if you cancelled the wizards you could pick and choose league to play
Brings back memories! You are spot on when you say we really forget the changes year on year. I completely forgot that we could only choose three leagues :o
CM03/04 was the very best. Diablo tactic, Daniël Braaten, Orri Freyr Oskarsson, Fabio Paim, Anatoli Todorov, Simone Padoin, Freddy Guarin, Supat Runratsamee and countless others.
I miss having game breaking tactics, especially since I’m still tragic at fm after all these years
on the nostalgia and graphics thing i had this recently going back to play the original tomb raider. i spent hundreds of hours running and gunning my lovely lara around various exotic locations as a young lad. went back and played the original recently and i was blown away with just how unrealistic and poorly it has aged, in my memory it was very different probably due to nostalgia and it genuinely being at the cutting edge of graphics etc on ps1 at the time. loved this vid though i have been considering going back to FM 2005 as i remember it being awesome but after this i might just stick with 19 :)
I love 09. Still playing it now. The best challenge on the game is saving Luton Town. -30 PTS at the start.

I still on occasion get out my old Amiga 1200 and play Football Manager with 4 floppy disks maybe it needs an airing on youtube to show the younger members of the community what all the fuss was about in the 90s. Those were the days we would only load the English 5 divisions because it took forever to load, then you could get an error on one of the disc and have to turn it off and start all over again. Wycombe wanderers managed by Martin O'Neill. There were four of us play from Friday evening until 2.50pm on a Saturday listening to live football then about 6pm go back on it until the early hours of Sunday morning go to bed. Then go to work all week. The teams we use to play were Stockport County, Gillingham, Aston Villa, and Leicester City. We buy a few crates of beer to last us, we would do that every 4 weeks on a long weekend off great memories lots of fun kept us entertained for hours. We'd sometimes do an F1 motor racing season or a golf touring season, we'd get our partners involved by having a winter Olympics or summer Olympics games.
Never played this version myself. At this point in time I preferred the Fifa Manager series that got killed off in 2013.
Keep these videos coming please! Just remember that some of you criticism came from you making the window smaller :P Pretty good that the UI was so malleable back then. My alltime favourite TCM 2004 was a one size fits none type of thing.
First FM I had was 05, FM09 was the one I spent most of the time on that game as well as most of the time on the editor
08/09/10 were my favourites in the day! For some reason with 09 I kept taking over Montrose in Scotland 😂😂
You asked how Southampton had been doing in real life at the start. This was our 4th season in the Championship and was the year we went into Administration and got relegated to League One. So an eventful year!

I remember playing FM05 thinking nothing will better this. I got a two strikers, Ben Mackey on a free and Kyle Wilson on loan and they scored for fun, something like 70 goals between them. Oh happy days. Miles better now of course but good to look back.
2009 was my first FM :D I wish you had taken a look at Bojan. He was predicted to be the next Messi at that point :D

I loved playing with Fiorentina in this.
Would have loved to see Leicester’s L1 side and stats. I know it sounds daft with what’s happened in recent years but that year in league 1 was my favourite year as a Leicester fan
Hello WTS, may I ask where you have downloaded the graphics (e.g. - Emblems, Logos..etc) please?
3 leagues are only in creator. If you close it you can choose all leagues as playable

FM has come so far? If it had a RESKIN and changed the menus and button placements it would be 98% the same. Graphics aren't much different apart from the crowd!

Think stadiums was on this FM. I think you need to go into settings and interface settings and turn on crowd etc or stadiums.
I absolutely still get annoyed by that problem with the score update box in game where it goes down every time a new goal is scored. Would love to just stay focused on one result like you said
As soon as you said "Just look how far we've come", i knew what's going on. Jack, just admit it. SI told you to play 10 years old game just to make FM 20 look better, because they know that it's the same game from last year. Compare it to FM19.
I recorded a video I planned to do before FM20's features were even announced because SI told me to... ok then.

Just checked and I have every FM on steam from 2009 (This one) to the current 2019! :D
Was this the one where Pavel Pogrebnyak was an absolute boss, could get him at the start from Zenit.
This is the one I still play now.
Just spent $67 for a Steam key for this bad boy. Think the Steam version versus the CD disc version of the FM that you own is extremely outdated... I've got nine or so leagues running at the same time, with six or so of them 'detailed'. Pretty cool game. FMRTE is free if you're into messing around. The prre-game editor in my opinion is more wild than the actual in game HUD/overlay.

was FM 09 the first one with 3d matches instead 2d?
I think 09 was the year that you had to register the game online before being able to play it. problem being that everyone was trying to register and it crashed everything. remember being extremely angry and upset :(
Dru1927 Football Manager 2011 was the last one that didn’t need Steam. I think 2010 and 2011 both had Steam versions but they were optional
This was the first FM I properly played. I was absolutely terrible.

Been Trying to find an old fm around 2012-2014 steam key, never played it, but I really do want to, way better football managers.
Actually fm 09 can play with more than 3 league if you cancel the wizard menu...

Just so you know lol this was Southampton's 4th season in the championship and they got relegated lol
I tried it and looks good but the played and they feel like go back in time is not good but the one thing I'd noticed there was yes there's bad graphics but there's loads of camera angles. I managed think it was M....alaga some Spanish team who were really rich n made the match much different cos I managed with like tactics on attacking and it was simple and I won and it was easy but like yea that was boring you're right nostalgia you see things through rose tinted glasses. I realize this.

funny you chose us then it was a bad time for us, the season we went into admin got relegated to lge 1 and the next season we started -10
Its weird for some reason I thought that -10 season was earlier than this, shows how far your club has come
@@WorkTheSpace we got promoted 2 seasons later the promoted straight after to the prem, we have come along way, but I feel we are starting to go back again, something going on behind the scenes with staff going and i fear ralph doesn't look like his hearts in it again
