In this video I go over the Japanese Type I and compare it to the M91 Carcano and Type 38 Arisaka.
When I got mine a year ago for $250 the guy had it labeled as a type 99 and when I asked about the bolt he lowered it from $300 because it had “the wrong bolt”. Mine has gold painted Japanese on the stock according to reddit it was mostly numbers.

I have a documented bring back that was captured by a marine after a battle in the Phillipines. It has Japanese's markings on sling that translate as "718, Japanese Marines, Kwajelein, Phillipines, Home Island". (The rifles serial number is H34xx).
Is the rifle in good shape?
I see they are the straight bolt master race.

I missed out on one of these for 300 bucks when I was 19, definitely one of the "Ones that go away"
The letter in the serial number indicates what factory the rifle was manufactured at. Factory A, B, C, D, E, F > Gardone V.T.
G, H, I > FNA. Brescia
J, K, L > Beretta
Some “J” series rifles were made by FNA. Brescia due to an overrun.

I believe the wood on the Arisaka's was a lighter and that this may account for the weight difference. Thanks for a fine video!

Do you know of any milsurps out there that were converted to 30-06 in large numbers while retaining their military features? I have a K98k converted to 30-06 by the Norwegians, and my other milsurps are 30-06 as well. I'm trying to keep my calibers all the same, if possible.
Some South American Mausers were converted to 30-06 like the Chilean 1912s. Also some Type 99s were converted to 30-06 by the US for South Korean troops, I have one on the wall in the video.

Good afternoon, my name is Anderson Misael Velásquez López. I really like your channel, I especially enjoy your video about the arisaka type 38. I have designed a rifle model based on that rifle model combining it with the series of prototype rifles shisei and the M14 rifle fire selector and I would like to ask that you do not think it would have been better to adapt the type 38 to the new 7.7 ammunition instead of making the type 99 and also converting it into a combat rifle with semi-automatic and automatic mode.
How "rare" are these as a collectible? Worth the $500 investment? Also, the ammo seems to be as bad and expensive as trying to find 7.35 Italian?
They are one of the less common rifles of WW2 just based on production, but if it's worth the 500 depends on you. Ammo is expensive.
I just bought one of these for 500$ it has a strange problem though when the bolt goes all the way back on an empty magazine the magazine follower goes up and impedes the bolt from going back forward otherwise it works flawlessly and it does have a cleaning rod
That's a feature not a problem.

If it's in decent shape take it they are nice guns to shoot I love mine after I went and cleaned it up a second time after shooting it it's pretty smooth I'd say that's a fair price based on what I paid but I'm just a guy on the internet it depends on your interest level 🙂
@@brendonbewersdorf986 i love milsurp rifles i think it’s worth it i just don’t want to get ripped off you get me? it’s in great condition except it’s got a bit of a splinter under the bolt handle where the wood meets the reciever. the wood got damaged somehow and a small piece is starting to split or splinter off. you’re input would be appreciated my friend. i’m mainly worried about a crack forming and becoming bigger through force of recoil because i would like to shoot the rifle
I have one got my type i 20 years ago for 100 bucks in a antique shop he the owner did not know what it was how it got there god no's
Had the Japanese Army ever use this rifle? Though it's bought by the Navy, some people say it had been equipped by the Army for a short time before being equipped by the Navy, but this opinion really lacks evidence.

Yours is in the white just a bit tarnished I see.
Hard to tell if it was blued or patina.
