Hello Gabby !! I think that this vid is the best youtube one i've ever seen..
In the Arab World, we have two versions of Arabic. The formal is considerably different from the informal. But we can't say that it's enough to speak one of them and ignore the other. If you want to communicate with people you must use a widespread informal dialect otherswise you would sound weird. The formal Arabic must be used in journalism, books, TV station, etc..
It's funny that the dialects of informal Arabic are so diverse even within the same country to the extent that there are many local dialects in my country I hardly can understand them. More, I had better use English to speak with somebody from Morroco cos it's imposible to get him/her when they speak in Morrocan informal Arabic !!

Learning English is very easy
Due to the many years spent in studying English grammar at school (in Italy, UK and USA), it does come more natural to me to use the "correct" way. To speak the incorrect way like a native as you pointed out in this video, I should to concentrate more and, consequently, sound less fluent and natural.

First of all, I congratulate you and thank you for your good videos. 'Vaina' in Colombia is commonly used in the Caribbean region, but this is also an agricultural instrument.

"Vaina" is where you store a sword and where the beans grows up that is "vaina" but in Venezuela, where I was born, we use "VAINA" when we do not remember the exactly name of any stuff in particular, for example if we are talking about cars and you do not know nothing about cars we exchange the name of that piece of the car with "vaina" but we try to explain what that "vaina" does "the vaina that blows cold air inside the car"

In my opinion it depends on the situation.If I am teaching English for the students I have to follow the rules,the patterns which they must learn.When I am talking to my friends,I would use the common version as you said.The class is great.Moreover you remind us how to use the correct form when we speak English.Sometimes these words are tricky that's why we have to practice and write them in diffetent sentences.I would like you to talk about the subjunctive tense and write more senteces.Thank you so much.

In Spain, where I am, we never use "vaina" in the sense of stuff or things. We use "vaina" as a sheath of something like a nife or even a bean. Also we use it as an adjetive meaning in that case a coward person

"Vaina" Is used in Venezuela as informal word I think, so as a Mexican I don't understand what vaina means so in this way it's very weird to hear an American spoken like that

when I was learning English in Taiwan, I was taught "If I were you" but after I came to Canada I started to feel what I've been taught was wrong!! But actually I was right all along!

why american english sounds so vulgar?
For me it sounds a little more funky than say British English.
Don't trust edited comments by the way.
In Latin, "vulgar" means "common". At least 150 million people in the US and Canada speak English natively with dialects that would be classified as "General American", including me. It is the most common super-dialect of English. In contrast, very few people in the UK actually speak with Received Pronunciation (RP), and "Modern RP" is not a thing. The word "received" means "from the ages", like received wisdom. "Modern RP" is actually just "a posh London accent". There are only about 10 to 20 million people who speak with a posh London accent. Cockney is also an accent from London. Notice that what I am calling the posh London accent is actually *more common outside of London* in the rest of the South of England. There are many immigrants in London and also local dialects, like Cockney, just to name one. Similarly, there are 8 million people in New York City, but I suspect less than half of them speak English with a GenAm accent natively and at home.
If you mean "rude", then I would say that any English dialect can sound rude if you want it to. Lily Allen (singer from London) has a British accent and she sounds VERY rude. Listen to her song "LDN" - parental discretion advised, that song is very rude. Notice that Lily Allen has *a* British accent - not RP, and not even a posh London accent. I believe she describes her own accent as "lower class" - or "lowah class" to use a spelling pronunciation. So - the opposite of classy.
Stephen Fry has an "upper crust RP" accent, which is very classy and posh. But he can also make English sound very rude, he is a comedian. Is he on television at noon or at midnight, and is he wearing a suit and tie? If it is midnight and he is dressed casually, he might have something rude or crude to say. And he has the same accent the whole time.

OMG Where have you been my whole life? I just found you and you have already given me more information than I've received in classes over the years! Besides the pronunciation (the fact that the same letter, even used in a similar word, sounds completely different - subway and subscribe, for example-), English has been so confusing to me because all those common mistakes you've just mentioned! When talking to people I always felt wrong and now I knew they were the ones with the wrong grammar, but I didn't have a clue because everybody (even on tv, here in UA-cam...) speak that way. You have no idea how grateful I am with you! And you are such a delight to watch... you speak so well and so funny!. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! ... And yes, "vaina" is not a word you would use in any formal context; it's very common but not a "decent" word.

Thanks a lot for this lesson, it's really helpful! I spent more than a year in US, but it's still confusing to figure out when it is appropriate to speak less correctly to sound more natural, and when it would sound just illiterate. Of course, there are some distinctive situations like job interview vs informal party, but usually they're somewhere in between. Personally, since I don't feel this fine line, I've preferred to stick to grammar so far, but I hope that one day I'll learn to switch as easily as native speakers.
