    Finally someone managed 35mm film not to look like a mess of false colors and exzessive grain. Well done and very nice pictures!

      In my opinion that's what makes film great. These same pics could have easily been done with a digital camera without paying for film and developing.

    Great video! Just some advice for those in the comments who were saying they were having issues with the strobes not firing with the trigger...you can always mount the wireless trigger on the hot shoe, and then use a PC sync cable to hard connect the trigger to the body, that will work everytime. I have an EOS 1N-HS and that's the route I ended up having to go.
    Thanks for the great video!

    Excellent! Have the same kind of gear, 1v, art 50 1.4 and 85L1.2 , 135L. been thinking about getting some sort of hi-speed flash and try this. Now I’m convinced it’s worth the effort! Thank you, great work 👍

      Yes it is worth the effort for sure in my opinion. I have been using the Godox flashes (AD200, 600 etc.. and they are the best value for the money in my opinion) Been drooling over that 135L for quite some time... might have to revisit that real soon!

    Today I shot 7 rolls of Portra 400 in my Hasselblad. Of a 4th of July small town parade and Demolition Derby. Old expired film i have had for a few years. Just always shooting B&W for the darkroom. Nateral light today of course but now you make me want to break out the Strobes and try some High Speed sync

    I finish to see your video right now. Great shot, I love the way you use this camera and the pictures that you made. Only one question... I don't understand... why you used the ND filter with your 70-200? I think the answer is for blur the background, but I'd like to read your motivation. Thanks.

    • @Distphoto
      @Distphoto  2 роки тому

      Thank you! I used the nd filter to kick the flash out off high speed sync as I was not sure it was working properly. This allowed me to shoot at f 2.8 and bring the shutter below 1/200th of a sec.
      Could have gotten the same shots in high speed sync. I just was not positive the Godoy hss was working properly with the eos 1v. And wanted to make sure I got something 👍.
      Some people swear by nd filters. I personally love these Godox flashes and typically use them in hss.
      One thing to note though. If you are shooting really fast the flash will keep up better at regular sync speed (under 200 or so). In hss. They tend to overheat quicker.
      But yes, it was to blur the background

    • @GiancarloSoncin7
      @GiancarloSoncin7 2 роки тому

      @@Distphoto Thanks for explanation. I use Godox too. You're right about everything, I hadn't thought about it. I liked your video for your professionalism. I am always afraid that ND filters will alter colors by cooling them down. I noticed doing coloring in the s-log videos.

    • @Distphoto
      @Distphoto  2 роки тому +1

      @@GiancarloSoncin7 yes the filters can change colors and these were variable which adds some polarization as well. I had a cheaper filter I used to use and it had a horrible green cast 🥵.
      It is easy to test the filters today with digital cameras so that is a bonus….

    Outstanding results! I love Portra for it’s fine grain, honestly I find the amount of grain indistinguishable between Portra 160 and 400. When paired with pro glass the results are every bit as detailed and clean as digital. I also found that 35mm film gives you more than enough resolution for posting to social media. Great work I’m already a subscriber or I’d subscribe again. 😁

    The images with the flash and shallow depth of field somehow automatically look very modern to me.
    Probably you associate this look more with modern age and not with the film age. The internet is full of the latter. Anyone with a digicam and a china flash (Chinablitz) does it. I can not exclude myself..
    I absolutely agree with you on your favorite image, when it faded in I also immediately thought, wow that would be my favorite.
    Maybe with a white reflector it would have gained a bit in the blacks, but overall nowadays more my taste than the flashed ones.
    Many greetings from Germany

    • @Distphoto
      @Distphoto  2 роки тому

      The image with out the flash is just what I am more drawn to personally.
      I will say that using off camera flash and doing it well is a skill set in its own and not everyone can do it.
      But that compressed look with off camera flash is something I avoided for a long time, not because I did not know how, but because like you said it looked "modern" or even more digital. In the video I commented about not being used to long lenses anymore because that lens mostly sits on a shelf. I much prefer the look of my 35 & 50mm lenses.
      But as a portrait photographer I need to have a way of separating my images from "everyone else out there with a camera" and off camera flash can help me do this..... So I try to mix it up and use it when it is needed for fill, main, etc...
      I am rambling a bit but appreciate your insight and def agree, Cheers!

    I got a question for ya.... can you use TTL with that Flashpoint/Godox trigger on the Canon 1V? Have you tried it yet??

    • @Distphoto
      @Distphoto  3 роки тому +1

      I was having trouble getting my flash to go into TTL with my trigger. I thought I had bought a strobe that did not have TTL ( turns out that was a different strobe I bought years ago - an Orlit) trying to figure out what the issue is. I am pretty sure it will work with the 1V but have not done it yet. I plan to run some tests and will let you know the results.
