About Sanford And Son: The highest-rated half-hour series in NBC history at the time, Sanford and Son stars Redd Foxx as the cantankerous sexagenarian Fred Sanford and Demond Wilson as his son Lamont, also his business partner in the family junk-dealing business. To prevent his son from leaving home, and bent on having things his own way in general, Fred often calls upon such ruses as fake heart attacks or phony back ailments. Lamont usually sees through these subterfuges, but because he loves his father, he lets him think he's getting his way.

This has to be one of the top 5 best sitcoms, to ever be on TV. It's not so much to be funny and popular THEN, but to STILL be funny now, is what makes a true classic.
Unless something burns down. I have the whole series. Bought it from Best Buy ten years ago. And I watch it all the time. I can turn off cable and just watch this, family matters, Gilligans Island, the Jeffersons, and WHats Happening. I was looking for the Land of the lost but I could find thewhole series. I have a vault of old school. I also have Good Times.

Blockbusters which went bankrupt was selling all his episodes at low prices and there were lines around the block to purchase

The producers wanted to fire LaWanda Page because she was messing up. Soon, the producers realized that would have been a terrible mistake because she is comedy gold.
This show had me rolling on the floor endless laughter one of the best shows of the 1970’s

I remember sitting in front of the television when this show first came on. And I'd love to listen to my dad roll with laughter till he had tears in his eyes. Hated it when the show went off the air.

The show producers DID NOT want Lawanda Page for lack of experience and appeal. Fred Sanford vouched and insisted on Lawanda because he had worked with her before and they had great rapport. Good call Fred . The most classic roast battles on any show including Martin vs Pam. Even tho I have them at #2 all time lol
He threatened to quit if they fired Aunt Esther! Bless his heart!
Who is #1? I can't think of a better pairing hurling insults at one another. I'd say Marcy Darcy and Al Bundy, but that was one sided, lol. At least Esther had some great comebacks!
Redd Fox and Luwanda Page grew up together childhood friends and in real life Donna and Esther's are sisters
Redd Foxx also got them to hire Rolo and Achoo on the show.
1st classic to me is Fred and Esther 2nd George Jefferson and Florence. Martin and Genia can't come close to those classics.
Watching this you would never think Redd Foxx and Lawanda Page were best friends in real life

Only after you learn the back stories, will you know the kindness of Redd Foxx. From paying the royalties, just to sing a few lines of songs by the Ink Spots, to getting fellow comedians on the show, he was beyond awesome.
Although Harlem Nights may not be the best movie ever, I highly recommend young people see it ASAP, and many times, to witness the greatness of the generations of masters there-in.

No coincidence. Sanford and Son was developed by Norman Lear. Norman Lear was the one that gave Michael G. Moye (Married With Children) his start on Good Times. So I can definitely see the influence.
That show "Benson" with Robert Guillaume was good also.Lots of roasts between Benson and Kruase and the other casts.

I was a young 10/12 yr old back when this show aired, Fred,u Lamont, aunt Esther, Grady where some of my favorite characters.
Best part of Fred and Esther shackled together was them trying to eat corn on the cob. Esther says "I like a little butter on my end" and Grady starts cracking up.
This show could NEVER be made today, and thats a good thing. Forever classic television
