Sanford and Son was one of the BEST shows on television when I was in high school. All of us would gather around television just to watch it. One of the best memories of my youth❤❤❤❤
This has to be one of the top 5 best sitcoms, to ever be on TV. It's not so much to be funny and popular THEN, but to STILL be funny now, is what makes a true classic.
Unless something burns down. I have the whole series. Bought it from Best Buy ten years ago. And I watch it all the time. I can turn off cable and just watch this, family matters, Gilligans Island, the Jeffersons, and WHats Happening. I was looking for the Land of the lost but I could find thewhole series. I have a vault of old school. I also have Good Times.
@@robertmason7553😂😂😂 My friend bought me the set at best buy too. I watch it religiously. I never get tired of watching the same episodes because they still make me laugh till I cry. Cable is over-rated. I have streaming. Save your your money and invest in streaming.
I remember sitting in front of the television when this show first came on. And I'd love to listen to my dad roll with laughter till he had tears in his eyes. Hated it when the show went off the air.

The show producers DID NOT want Lawanda Page for lack of experience and appeal. Fred Sanford vouched and insisted on Lawanda because he had worked with her before and they had great rapport. Good call Fred . The most classic roast battles on any show including Martin vs Pam. Even tho I have them at #2 all time lol
Who is #1? I can't think of a better pairing hurling insults at one another. I'd say Marcy Darcy and Al Bundy, but that was one sided, lol. At least Esther had some great comebacks!
Sanford & Son, and The Jeffersons were some of the best Black sitcoms in television history. Have you all cracked up in stitches and we need that sometimes!
@@debbiebrown1620 They were childhood friends who grew up in the same neighborhood. He offered her the job on the show. He helped on the stand up comedy circuits
Only after you learn the back stories, will you know the kindness of Redd Foxx. From paying the royalties, just to sing a few lines of songs by the Ink Spots, to getting fellow comedians on the show, he was beyond awesome. Although Harlem Nights may not be the best movie ever, I highly recommend young people see it ASAP, and many times, to witness the greatness of the generations of masters there-in.
The producers wanted to fire LaWanda Page because she was messing up. Soon, the producers realized that would have been a terrible mistake because she is comedy gold.
No coincidence. Sanford and Son was developed by Norman Lear. Norman Lear was the one that gave Michael G. Moye (Married With Children) his start on Good Times. So I can definitely see the influence.
Those 2 together wouldn't have to say a word, not one single syllable, and they're STILL friggin' hilarious! Just the way they look at each other cracks me up.
I immigrated to US in 1981 at the age of 15….this was the first show I watched…. It was hilarious and I learned English through this show….. best of best
For those too young to recall, Aunt Ester was THE "Upside the head" lady of television in the 1970's. Do not taunt Aunt Ester, or, for that matter, Happy Fun Ball!
I wonder how Red Foxx managed to keep a straight face whenever she looked at LaWanda... because I just laugh out loud whenever I see her mean face, and the pouting she does😂😂😂😂😂
What I just came to understand better is that Fred didn't want to be alone. He would entertain company, angels, and himself with any that was there. Lol
It has to be said That in real life Lawanda Paige and Redd Foxx where childhood friends and grew up together. And at one point the Esther character was going to be off the show. Redd Foxx came to her defense. I can't imagine the show without Fred and Esther going at it..
Two enemies working in the same room could never had such a good accord. Only friends could ever feel comfortable enough to rib each other so viciously.
Best part of Fred and Esther shackled together was them trying to eat corn on the cob. Esther says "I like a little butter on my end" and Grady starts cracking up.
Not really. Lamont was the one that arranged the whole disaster and he laughed at his plan falling into place. That's why Fred chased him with a baseball bat at the end!!

I was born in the early 200s but we really need TV like this again. Let's go back to a time where we laughed like crazy 😄
This show had me rolling on the floor endless laughter one of the best shows of the 1970’s

Redd Fox and Luwanda Page grew up together childhood friends and in real life Donna and Esther's are sisters
Redd Foxx also got them to hire Rolo and Achoo on the show.
1st classic to me is Fred and Esther 2nd George Jefferson and Florence. Martin and Genia can't come close to those classics.
Them two PURE MAGIC!!! Aunt Esther's side eye is LEGENDARY!!!😂😂😂
Yep.... it's priceless!
Good laughs 😃
Love Sanford and Son! I am glad that there is a community that loves it like I do.
You're not alone. Probably the greatest sitcom ever.
Actress plays Donna also doing The Walton's at same time. Hal Williams too. Remarkable actors

There needs to be a Part 4! You gotta include Esther's first episode!!
"Her behine is mine". Lamont spits out his drink. That was not acting, that was gold. LMFAO
The combination of Redd Foxx and La Wanda doing comedy was like Scottie Pipen and Michael Jordan playing basketball 🏀 brilliant
I have so many favorites in the 70s snd early 80s i love Sanford and son, the jeffersons. Threes company etc. So funny can not stop laughing ♥️🥰🥰🥰
Just now realizing the influence this show had on the Bundy's. The way Al battled with Marci Darcy was surely from this. Love both shows

That show "Benson" with Robert Guillaume was good also.Lots of roasts between Benson and Kruase and the other casts.
I loved the episode with Esther and Grip Matlock! She told him off!
The actress playing Donna was in my opinion a beautiful woman !
Yes she was a natural beauty
She was also on 17 episodes of The Waltons. She was doing two shows at the same time. Her name is Lynn Hamilton.
