Same drivetrain setup as the first gen Kona I used to have on lease. Overall it was the by far best engine/transmission mating I have ever driven. Andrea is spot on that you have to understand what you are getting with a dct but when you know what to expect and how to drive it you will be richly rewarded with an outstanding driving experience. Not for everyone though - that’s for certain. For me, the Seltos is much better sized then the Kona was but the stories about horror dealer pricing is nuts.
I probably won’t buy another new car. But I love your reviews, entertaining and very informing. Great segments and your outtakes always make me smile. Awesome as always 😊
I had added Seltos to my list. But the dealers here in Ottawa added some unbelievable charges to the MSRP and quoted a final price of 42k for the LX FWD. Moreover there was no timeline on when it would arrive. I also joined a FB group of Kia Seltos owners, and looking at the issues/complaints of Seltos, especially the engine overheating in a bumper to bumper traffic, I had to cancel my Seltos order. I wish Mazda had made Seltos shaped CX 30. I would have bought it in a second.
I would love to see a hybrid and plug-in hybrid, incredible value on the gas model but we also see the Sportage and Sorento hybrids/PHEVs with excellent value too. Kia is doing a really great job, I'm impressed. Thanks for watching, glad you are enjoying the reviews.
Just bought and been driving it. Handles really well. The choppy acceleration can be explained by the dual clutch, but now that I know why, you get used to it. Plenty of zip when you need to pass and better fuel economy than my old elantra. Very happy with my purchase. Going to take it out camping so will test out the storage this trip. I bought it despite Jack's obsession with the unibrow. And I love the fact that not many peoe have it compared to the Crosstrek here in Quebec. Makes it easiercto find in big parking lots.
In a world where even the smallest compact vehicles cost over $35,000 (including the rediculous dealer markups that is), this Seltos is a great value with more space than any competition
I had a Kia Soul 2022, which I was pretty happy with, but recently traded it in for the Seltos 2023, LX trim, which is what I originally wanted. Couldn't be happier with it - great price point, acceptable size for city driving (I live in the TriState area), very smooth ride compared to the Soul. Already took a couple road trips, including one to Canada (hey you guys!) - did not disappoint. I also like how it is a couple inches further from the ground, compared to the Soul or Mazda CX-30. It provides that better view and greater visibility, which makes me feel more comfortable and confident on the road. I would recommend anyone to consider this car even in the lowest trim available. PS: I am not in the car business, and not getting paid for this. Just a happy customer :)
It is unfortunate that in the US top version there are no ventilated seats, heated steering wheel and rear seats, no powered passenger seat, and no parking sensors. I find this odd as it is very hot during the summer in Kansas. I can't get ventilated seats. And it can also be very cold in winter, no rear heated seat. We pay as much as the car here as in Canada but don't get those options. I would pay for the option to add those features. My current car a 2019 Kia Niro Touring has at least real leather heated and ventilated seats, dual zone climate control but is FWD only. I would like to get the Seltos because I could use a vehicle with AWD (we do get snow here also). Too bad I can't get a Canadian version and bring it to the US, but I was told I could never register it in Kansas.
Love the exterior design and I think looks better than Sportage. I love the interior too! I just wish they included hybrid. I enjoy a lots of funny comments from you guys. I knew Zack would be happy to see a lots of buttons. 😆 price wise, it’s great.
Great information and review. Always enjoy watching you two, very conversational presentation. I'm holding out for the Hybrid AWD Corolla Cross myself.
Waiting for mine. Ordered it in July, due about November in Canada. I can't wait! My partner has the 2020 Soul Gt-Line and we decided I'd join the Kia family as well. Plus their Neptune Blue paint looks very nice.
Thank you for another very informative video. This husband and wife reviews speaks alot as families are the ones that buy this CUV. Thanks for sharing, more power to both of you.
Pretty soon my Kona N and i will be able to cross the border, the next time you do a test review in Niagara Falls. have all the shots and no more ArriveCan needed!
Seltos never had a power lift gate,I currently own the 2021 Canadian sx Turbo and no power lift gate and never was available but it opens easy and faster, don't need power anyway,I have to say this little suv has been flawless so far and gets very good MPG on the highway
New facelifted Seltos I heard is currently selling in Korea, with Power Liftgate, updated front and rear styling, EV-6 like digital display, new wheels, and so on. Though, I still prefer my 2022 EX better in styling, even if I miss those new tech on the new car... They say its the 2023 in Korea, but I guess by the time it arrives in North America, they will probably market it as 2024, or 2023 1/2... (which they used to do that on the old days)...
Always enjoy a Kia review Andrea. Don't see this model so much over here in the UK unless I'm missing them when out. Typically Kia do pack their cars with impressive spec for a totally competitive price.
I guess those MPG numbers are exclusive to Eco mode lol, My wife rented this car for a couple of days and she got 18-20 mpg driving in the city in sport mode, which is the way to go if you want to have fun.
Been waiting to see if they come out wirh the hybrid seltos for a few years now... live the look of this vehicle...just hope the price won't be out to lunch once they do.
I am EAGERLY waiting for the 2024 model, which will include a beautiful and very modern new dashboard plus new front and rear exterior changes. The top trim will get a new 195HP turbo engine and a traditional 8-speed transmission. The 2024 will REALLY be sweet! Can't wait to test drive it!!!
My Seltos is the 2021 EX Premium AWD Steel Grey and love it. It has all the creature comforts and tech features as the SX Turbo AWD model. The only thing the SX Turbo AWD has over EX Premium AWD is Bose sound, head up display and auto rain windshield wipers. BUT the EX Premier is a 2.0 Liter IVT Transmission which give a very comfortable NON-Jerking gear shifts, smooth and quite ride. Price wise EX Premium is $2,100 cheaper vs SX Turbo.
Do you anticipate this year will have the same major Kia/Hyundai engine problems we’ve been seeing? (Ex. Engines catching fire) Or have there been big fixes?
Great video. Very informative. I currently drive a ‘99 Tahoe. I am anxious to move to a small SUV. I’ve been looking for awhile but only recently added the Seltos to my short list. The more research I do the more I like the Seltos.
The Seltos just goes to show that a sub $25k subcompact CUV is all the vehicle most people need. All of the basics it does quite well. It's stylish. It's economical. It offers enough space to comfortably accommodate 4 adults on a trip. It offers nice luxury features if you're willing to pay more for them. People tend to drive and spend way too much for their needs. Time for a reality check.
Thank you for pointing out the inferior optioning on the US model. It’s disappointing the amount deleting they did, including the HUD. There is also no EX Premium trim available here. Still enjoy my Seltos SX, just wish it was a Canadian version 😢
Yes, major disappointment. What a great and enthusiastic review, but I was ultimately let down by the comments about the US trims. WTH Kia? Was just thinking, finally a vehicle the seems to have it all, ticks all the boxes with zero apologies. Even a regular shifter sadly missing on its Hyundai Kona counterpart. (Copied my reply-comment into my own post in the hopes that Kia might better see it).
Awesome video Zack and Andrea, Do you know out of the 3 HRV vs Crosstrek vs Seltos which one would be the best ? I am eyeing the Crosstrek but would love feedback from you guys! Thanks
When I saw 2023, I thought maybe you guys had the refreshed model. It's on sale in Korea already. It comes with a couple of nice changes, including full digital gauges, 8 speed transmission, and a slight power boost like the Kona. Selling well here!
The all-new, 2023 Kia Seltos SX Turbo AWD subcompact crossover is an excellent crossover for any new driver, who just immigrated from any part of the world, besides North America. It has the 1.6 L turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 175 horsepower and the seven-speed dual-clutch automated transmission. It is also revised for a brand-new model year.
The new Kona (completely new 2024) comes either ICE, Hybrid or Electric. Its hasn't been seen in NA yet. Similar powertrains as the new Niro btw, probably same platform as well. It's also a lot bigger.
Thanks Andrea for your comparison of the Canadian Kia Seltos vs the US Kia Seltos, I have removed the Seltos off my list of possible choices, missing to many important features. Kia can do better in the US, perhaps it’s about money.
When is the facelift model of Kia seltos is coming to canada? Do you have any info regarding that? It has flat supervision cluster as sportage and round button transmission. Already launced in south korea and seen at busan motor show.
is this really the 2023 model? I just test drove a Seltos in Australia and it had a single solid (dual screen) for driver and navigation just like the Sportage. They also ditched the DCT for a full proper transmission so no more jerking. Did Australasia get the update Seltos before the US and Canada?
Can a car be bought in Canada be taken to the US. I have seen mixed reviews, and concerns about the Odometer? Also, would it it matter if it was from a dealership or an auction?
I still think Crosstrek Outdoor 2.5 and Mazda CX-30 are the best choices in this class. The engine issue and dual clutch smoothness of the Seltos have given me a 2nd thought, if I am shopping at this segment.
The - I guess 2024 here - refresh is looking very nice; the back end reflects the Sorento, which is a big deal; interior goes up a notch with better sound control (apparently very good).
I'm sorry, I'm confussed, Kia has the Sportage, the Niro, many versions of the Kona and the Seltos. It's almost like your choosing the body to put on the one car frame with assigned engine.
Is it possible to purchase the Canadian version and register it here in the US? I have lived in Asia, and I know to bring vehicles from over there to the US you have to wait, I think, 23 years. Is it the same from Canada, or can I bring it right away? Or... Could I purchase and register it in Canada and just drive it into the US as if going on vacation? Basically, how can I own the Canadian spec'd version here in the US? Your fully loaded Seltos is MORE fully loaded than ours in the US 😢
Wait a minute in USA you get the seats heated, almost everything,I just purchased mine 2 months ago,& only the driver wheel is not heated, the rest it's the same ,drives good ,but still there's many people said that when you drive ,accelerates faster when you turn into a curve ,left or right, I don't feel that ,but probably I need to drive more in the higher when the car is under guaranty, the car cost in USA, it's 35,000.00,include taxes, registration fees ($ 7000.00 less than Toyota R4v) regular.
We have been considering a 2023 Honda CR-V ,but with the price release for Canada thats off the table now. We have been driving Honda's since 1999, but the cost is just too much. Reliable brand but its gotten ahead of itself with price . The new HR-V is also too expensive. After watching this video I will take a test drive in the new Kia Seltos, smaller than the CR-V but its just for us two empty nesters :). On a side note I subscribed to your feed, great videos you both put out.
I've been driving the same model for about 3 months, and I really love this car. It's just the right size for me and my family and I love all the safety features like lane keep assist, and the hud! I also love the physical buttons and how easy it is to use. I originally wanted black leatherette but had this available for shipping and I couldn't be anymore happier I ended up with a burgundy interior -the colour just goes so well with gravity grey! When I picked mine up at the dealership, I didn't expect much out of it but the colour really blew me away. I think it's stunning! I still have to get used to the dct but I've had a few instances where I was "one with the car" and it feels really amazing. It's something I would really want to master and be more confident in so I could have more fun driving it. Overall, really happy with this car.
We test drove this SUV when our dealership notified us that the new model had arrived. Although we loved how large the screen was and everything it had to offer, the cabin noise was what bothered us. We also test drove the newly redesigned 2023 HRV. We loved the new design, but the rear air vent and rear armrest were still missing. We ended up getting the 2021 MAZDA CX5, and couldn’t be happier.
The Mazdas are boring to drive and lack many features like lane centering assist. I test drove the Mazda and couldn’t get over how dated it felt and the lack of driver assist features.
I live in New England. Do you think they would allow me to purchase these better Canadian packaged car and bring back to the US without any crazy fees or red tape?
I think Kia’s DCT needs to be refined. I’ve owned several cars with DCT and none has rolled back at a stop like the looked like it did. Well my 2012 Ford Focus did but that was a mess to begin with 😂
What a great and enthusiastic review but alas was ultimately let down by the comments about the deletions on the US trims. WTH Kia? Was just thinking, finally a vehicle the seems to have it all, ticks all the boxes with zero apologies. Even a regular shifter sadly missing on its slightly smaller Hyundai Kona counterpart.
idk, i always just think of kia and hyundai as idea stealers. They are known for stealing the looks of more expensive cars and then filling them with plastic cheap parts. For some reason people like that. Every country’s Kia subsidiary decides what features will sell in their region. So Kia Canada chose those specs for the Seltos in Canada and Kia USA chose the specs for the American market. Maybe Kia USA would listen if people wrote in to complain about the specs available to them on the Seltos
It's hard not to like the Seltos. It has enough space(for the segment), it drives good, and the 1.6 t is ome of Kia's best motors. A hybrid may come with a more thorough refresh. The body pretty much has to be designed from the get go to accommodate the hv battery or you get compromised cargo areas like what happened in the Fusion hybrid.
Kia certainly puts alot of value into their vehicle..and this in no different...no towing capacity would not make the grade with me..not even for a small utility trailer...that is to bad..nice vehicle though😊
You always talk about the features of the vehicle but u failed to mention the reliability and built to last engine, whick Kia i think failed on those category

The new Kona (completely new 2024) comes either ICE, Hybrid or Electric. Its hasn't been seen in NA yet. Similar powertrains as the new Niro btw, probably same platform as well. It's also a lot bigger.
Hi Zach & Andrea 👋😀 Please review the new, Pleuton Blue 2024 Seltos. Thank you!
Thanks Andrea for your comparison of the Canadian Kia Seltos vs the US Kia Seltos, I have removed the Seltos off my list of possible choices, missing to many important features. Kia can do better in the US, perhaps it’s about money.
Hybrid would probably seal the deal for me.
Kia might have won me over with this new selts SX model. The price is very well priced in terms of value for the customers.
Kia had to recall 147,000 Seltos from 2020-2021 model years for fire risk. Why would anyone risk it with this vehicle?
We just purchased one of these, picking it up on Wednesday, got the EX FWD option, one thing we missed is if this package includes powered seats ?
How is the AWD system?
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it!
The sheer terror on his face when she guns it. Funny as hell.
Subaru needs to bring the Crosstrek hybrid back to Canada. And the Corrolla Cross hybrid probably will have better power than gas models
All you really need to do is put the transmission in manual mode then shift them yourself.
Is it not a cvt mate
The - I guess 2024 here - refresh is looking very nice; the back end reflects the Sorento, which is a big deal; interior goes up a notch with better sound control (apparently very good).
I'm sorry, I'm confussed, Kia has the Sportage, the Niro, many versions of the Kona and the Seltos. It's almost like your choosing the body to put on the one car frame with assigned engine.
Hello, is this brand very good in gas?
Is it possible to purchase the Canadian version and register it here in the US? I have lived in Asia, and I know to bring vehicles from over there to the US you have to wait, I think, 23 years. Is it the same from Canada, or can I bring it right away? Or... Could I purchase and register it in Canada and just drive it into the US as if going on vacation? Basically, how can I own the Canadian spec'd version here in the US? Your fully loaded Seltos is MORE fully loaded than ours in the US 😢
When will u review the facelift version 2023 Seltos!?
What color is this?
Does it have hill hold assist ?
Perfect size to transition to from my 2011 Honda crv. Even the front bumper clearance is a close resemblance.
Wait a minute in USA you get the seats heated, almost everything,I just purchased mine 2 months ago,& only the driver wheel is not heated, the rest it's the same ,drives good ,but still there's many people said that when you drive ,accelerates faster when you turn into a curve ,left or right, I don't feel that ,but probably I need to drive more in the higher when the car is under guaranty, the car cost in USA, it's 35,000.00,include taxes, registration fees ($ 7000.00 less than Toyota R4v) regular.
alwys top trim??
Any Corolla cross full review? And comparison with Seltos coming? Avid subscriber from Manitoba 🇨🇦 here..
Yes, Corolla Cross video on the channel...
Why do I see some 2023 seltos cars with that nice LCD display that takes up a third if the dash?
We have been considering a 2023 Honda CR-V ,but with the price release for Canada thats off the table now. We have been driving Honda's since 1999, but the cost is just too much. Reliable brand but its gotten ahead of itself with price . The new HR-V is also too expensive. After watching this video I will take a test drive in the new Kia Seltos, smaller than the CR-V but its just for us two empty nesters :). On a side note I subscribed to your feed, great videos you both put out.
I don't really pay too attention much to the cars. I just watch to see what matching outfit Andrea can come up with.
Nice in the USA you don't get power passenger seat nor that color interior nor ventilated seats.
I don’t like Kia, but after watching your video I want to test drive one now lol😂
I think Kia’s DCT needs to be refined. I’ve owned several cars with DCT and none has rolled back at a stop like the looked like it did. Well my 2012 Ford Focus did but that was a mess to begin with 😂
Kudos to KIA! probably one of the best choice other than MAZDA :)
Way to go, Kia!!!
The body pretty much has to be designed from the get go to accommodate the hv battery or you get compromised cargo areas like what happened in the Fusion hybrid.
....ALMOST a reason to move to Canada....eh! (I was almost headed to my Kia dealer to test drive a Seltos, but "butt-coolers" are a must for me! Lol
Unfortunately, its gearbox prone to overheating when doing mild off road driving as shown 9n TFL and other channels.
We are winning ehhh 🇨🇦 🎉
Even a bigger blow for the US is that the Forte5 is not offered in the States at all.. which is a better vehicle than the Seltos..I own both..
Kia certainly puts alot of value into their vehicle..and this in no different...no towing capacity would not make the grade with me..not even for a small utility trailer...that is to bad..nice vehicle though😊
At 7:00, you lost me. If Kia is going to ignore a larger market by reducing content, they're IMO basically shooting themselves in the foot.
You always talk about the features of the vehicle but u failed to mention the reliability and built to last engine, whick Kia i think failed on those category
Why does the exterior on all these vehicles look the same.
