Yes,It is. I only said it isn't the only stand up style. Insulting MMA also doesn't make your style any better. But I'm not aruging over the internet so don't even bother replying
I experimented a little with PBF-style defense when sparring MMA...a big issue I had with it was that I was easy to get into a MT clinch from that stance. But it is great for picking off punches!
I loved the video man and liked it (thumbs up), and I was wondering if you could give me your opinion on my technique, dubbed the 'Ascot Sequence', a specific 2 blow combo. I humbly prefer slight impact shadowboxing on a hard area, to trigger "wolff's law" as much as possible. What is your honest opinion about the "AS", if you would be kind enough to accept this invitation?
@snwbrderboi03 you know that boxing and mma are two different things, right? a boxing specialist would get owned in the octagon, and a mma specialist would get rocked in the ring. you CANT compare the two sports, dude.
Ali was alway a head hunter, he never goes to the body. I met one of his trainers, and he told me that, and I never saw a fight when he ever gone to the body. Check out his fights and you'll see that. This technique here is alot of close range techniques when Ali was a distant boxers. So maybe you're correct, but I don't see how that fits with Ali's style of boxing at all. Its doesn't resemble him at all to me. But that's my opinion.
MistNin_ he does shove away with the forearm, but also pushes down on the back of his opponeent's head and necks during the fight in clinches. see gatti, mitchell, hatton, bruseles
I dont think you guys get it. He is using the philly shell but modifying it for MMA performance. So thats why it doesn't seem the same as the boxing one. Anyways, I dont think the philly shell is useful in MMA anyways. Because as soon as you wrap your body up, you get caught in a takedown. The way I use the philly shell is, but its only used during the clinch while against the cage.
Thomas Hearns was the first to really utilize the technique, but it has been made famous by Floyd Mayweather, or else you wouldn't hear people attributing the technique to him. If the argument is who originally made it famous then yes, you're right. It doesn't really matter though, because my argument was that the guy in the video didn't claim it was a new invention.
i've seen mayeather actually push his opponent off with his shoulder (wich is illegal i think) and while the guy gets pushed off mayweather hits hi with the right. its excellent, and a perfect example of that is the Gatti/Mayweather fight. you should see it, try typing 123 on the search.
@flatpat1 Mayweather did alot of that earlier in his career. He threw a light of uppercuts when he was a jr. lightweight. And actually he threw a beautiful one in the Mosley fight, so he still pulls it out every now and then.
I've watched every Floyd fight and I've never seen him use the point of his to strike an opponent in the jaw then hit them. Floyd uses his forehand to left his opponents face then he hits them. His forehand is a lift moreso than a stike. Also floyd uses his elbows to keep an opponents head down if they're to close to the inside by placing his forearm behind the neck.
it can be effective if they know how to use it. some boxers try and the get ktfo cuz they dont roll with the shoulder really good and it they leave their left side all open. look at Margarito vs Cintron
Fantastic Video! Some great techniques to start drilling, and i like the way you show how the techniques can be layered up so that they can all be drilled together. Also think its hilarious that some of these idiots think you are bagging Mayweather by showing these techniques, hahaha
he didn't even shoulder guard. it's been around for atleast 50 years. philly fighters use it for years. street fighters use it for years. however it comes at a slight price, it's wear and tear on ya shoulders , similar to basketball players with their knees in basketball. If u wanna see a fighter roll his shoulder well, watch james toney
Wow!!!! I just watched some of the fight. Search "Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Ricky Hatton Welterweight Boxing" (in german) watch around the 2:50 min mark and 6:35! Great video. I had no clue. This makes Floyd an even better boxer in my eyes because he knows how to get away with it.
@Robopencil Floyd may not be a eloquent speaker but he is DEFINITELY a smart boxer, and immaculent counter puncher. of course he didnt reinvent the wheel but he knows how to roll it the right way
IM a boxing fan, its #1 in my heart, but the anti MMA comments are stupid, its two diffrent sports, both have a set of strategies. And if you think MMA is just bar fighting, youll get crushed when you fight a well rounded fighter. I like how he broke this defense down, the only border line foul ive seen mayweather use is the forearm to the throat. He might do some dirty stuff on the inside if his opponent is cheating as well.
Well the reason that being was because Hatton was being very dirty in that fight. Hatton was trying to clinch Mayweather and head butt him, well Mayweather responded by putting his elbows out so that way Hatton could headbutt himself right into Floyd's elbow. It's just fighting dirty with dirty.
Are you kidding me. Watch the Hatton fight. Even the ref was telling Floyd to "watch that elbow". Honestly, he probably knows most of Mayweathers techniques. It's not like Floyd has some super-secret catalogue of moves. He's an amazing boxer, but the techniques that he uses have been around for centuries.
As i have seen the fight of mayweather jr. He is protecting himself w/c is good technique in boxing but the thing I saw is that push with his two hands. watch him with hatton and you will find out.
If you're supposed to be a student of martial arts, than you should know that Mayweathers boxingstance is called "Philly Shell". Second of all Mayweather doesn't throw deliberate elbows to the face. He uses his elbow to decrease his opponents punching room with the right hand. Act like you know SON!
well i'm a big Hatton fan but i wouldn't use the words Dirty to describe Mayweather, he does indeed use an awful lot of elbow but it's the right side of the rules (just), he got Ricky with sweet overhand rights and timing really (and Ricky went off way too quick and at +1 weight division too high)
It's called Philly Shell, and to be honest I didn't see any dirty moves by Mayweather in that Hatton fight. Not sure the basis of this. Philly Shell is definitely a risky defense, but if perfected by a fighter then he will almost never get hit flushed. Example: Mayweather is a master of it, and has never really been hit terribly hard in his fights. His uncle who taught it to him on the other hand was not as technically sound or talented as Mayweather Jr, so he lost and got dropped time to time.
Anyone that thinks Floyd Mayweather throws elbows like the ones demonstrated here has never seen Floyd fight before. And also, Floyd RARELY grapples or holds so the idea that he is using some sort of tie like the ones demonstrated is preposterous. Instead of bashing the greatest fighter of our generation, how about congratulating him you haters!
knocked hatton out, he is just to quick smart and skilled to use whats in this video, elbows for separation are one thing using them for offensive attacks is just totally off base, watch the fight were he uses the philly shell to dodge and weave 10 strait punches!
Interpol That Is Just An Ignorant Comment...... I am A Boxer, ... As Good As There Is As Far As Teaching The Arts Of Boxing..... And These Guys Are No Boxers. In An MMA Fight It Would Be Heavily Tilted In Their Advantage, But In A Boxing Match The Advantage Would Definitely Be Mine. .... Just Wondering If Your Stupid Comment Was Suppose To Make Me Change My Opinion?????
u can't use alot of great techniques in boxing and transform it into mma - as soon as u even get in this close to fight your shit to clinching or take downs - also if you even use the philly shell standing up, try rolling your shoulders to a kick or better yet, being fast enough to pick your left arm up to stuff a take down
Yah I was thinking the same thing, but then he mentions how one of the moves is great if the ref is on the other side. =/ I think he's actually talking about pro boxing.
lol r u guys kidding me??????? ya those r good tactics. but mayweather doesn't do exactly that. u really have to exaggerate quite a bit to say that he does. first of all, i have never seen him use his elbow as an uppercut. what he does is uses his forearm to keep his opponent away and in his distance. when he does this, everybody sees it, he does not hide it at all, he usually holds it in their face and in their chest. second of all he doesn't hold in that way.
nope. false. sorry. mayweather does not use his elbow to hit the face. he uses it to PUSH the opponent away then hitting with his lead right. false again. mayweather never did hold the opponent's elbow like what you are showing while clinching and swinging then hitting on the body. Except for the fighting stance, there's nothing about floyd mayweather here. Good dirty fighting technique though.
thats how he uses the shell not to take cheap kidney shots im not a nut rider but the guy is a genius in the ring, but what he needs to do to finally shake his many haters is to let Antonio win one more fight then beat him sometime next year...even though AM is naturally 20 pounds heavier then what he fights at, which is why he pounded cotto
The hell is this guy talking about? Never once has Floyd ever done these illegal things. There are camera's in all directions, if Floyd has been doing these things you'd think he would be called out for it atleast one time. None of his opponents have ever said he has been elbowing them in the face, never once have a camera caught him doing any of these things in every single one of his fights.
to make it simple, boxers use elbows all of them do, PBF uses them for separation from time to time not to win fights, he wins them because of superior skill, speed, and defense and for this guy to suggest that a professional boxer of ricky hattons aggression would allow mayweather to be able to grab and control him like that in real time is ludacris, PBF fighting style totally goes against this his is to quick to fight in the clinch that much besides his best punch is the left hook which is wha
and to the people who are mad at him on wanting to make big money, if your gonna go in and risk ending up like Ali you dawm better get paid for it! why fight whoever calls you out if your not gonna get big bucks??? this is what all the neigh sayers said before hatton, then his speed and skill showed true just be a boxing fan and not a FM hater he can be an arrogant jerk but he has earned the right to talk he has turned down fights but the biggest ppl when he was fighting he faught and beat!!!
Gee.. The Basics of the Philly Shell defence went right past you... you cant build techniches off the phily base when you can clearly see you dont understand, or have used it sufficiently under the pressure of sparring
lmao...i watched floyd's fight hundreds of times. he puts his forearm in the guys face and pushes off with it but thats about as dirty as he gets. the left jab/overhand right can catch floyd when hes on the ropes but thats about it. hes got too much youth and energy to retire and he'll be back after a year or two.
this guy nailed it ive been pointing those exact moves out for a long time. i thought i was seeing things thank you.
Floyds hand position is borrowed from Bill "Superfoot" Wallace (PKA Karate champion). The shoulder guard is Wallaces trade mark defensive move.
Yes,It is. I only said it isn't the only stand up style.
Insulting MMA also doesn't make your style any better.
But I'm not aruging over the internet so don't even bother replying

thanx for the tips. very slick stuff.
Wow thx for dis big lesson I think this will help my fight so much
i swear that bold guy has done some jiu-jitsu tutorials so from this close expect a pull guard or single leg!
@snwbrderboi03
you know that boxing and mma are two different things, right? a boxing specialist would get owned in the octagon, and a mma specialist would get rocked in the ring. you CANT compare the two sports, dude.

Boxing's not the only Stand Up Art you know.
Your absolutely right they did have that stance
Pretty cool stuff. I like that elbow move.
hmm crafty, it must take some serious smarts to be able to sneak those moves in through the heat of a professional match
The thing is with Mayweather he picks his fights more carefully than he boxes.
I dont think you guys get it. He is using the philly shell but modifying it for MMA performance. So thats why it doesn't seem the same as the boxing one.

when you throw punch with right, right foot stay on ground.
Good stuff! Thanks for the unique video!

very nice explanations !!

Great stuff !
Why is everyone hating on these guys so much? Quit drinking that hatorade yall!
Fantastic Video! Some great techniques to start drilling, and i like the way you show how the techniques can be layered up so that they can all be drilled together.

do u think floyd can handle juan manuel marquez? i mean he did retire for a while, does he still have it?
he did do it hatton said he would have done the same
@Robopencil Floyd may not be a eloquent speaker but he is DEFINITELY a smart boxer, and immaculent counter puncher. of course he didnt reinvent the wheel but he knows how to roll it the right way
@mazdaplz Pulver had trouble closing distance against Faber, who was also a good boxer.
great vid u made
is this what Stephan and Richie do when their Gis are in the washing machine?
nice the only thing dirty was the elbow strike those other things are just immaginative clinch techniques
yea bro_ you say "SHOVING OFF with the forearm" thats completely different from PUSHING DOWN on the head and neck
IM a boxing fan, its #1 in my heart, but the anti MMA comments are stupid, its two diffrent sports, both have a set of strategies. And if you think MMA is just bar fighting, youll get crushed when you fight a well rounded fighter.

That guard is a philly shell.
floyd uses philly shell defense, its very affective
that helps but that will never work if the other fighter is strong i know i tryed it but thats good thinking tho
GOOD VIDEO
mayweather actually does do all of those things. dont forget about the holding down on the head with his forearm
RYU and Ken were first to utilize this stance or technique.
As i have seen the fight of mayweather jr. He is protecting himself w/c is good technique in boxing
but the thing I saw is that push with his two hands. watch him with hatton and you will find out.
This is why it says kickboxing in the title people. I think Floyd mayweather jr was just a reference.
philly style is sick,
yea that looks all fine and dandy but can you do it against atrue fighter man
floyd has the best defence amung pro boxers today.

i think it might be for mma
thanks. spread the truth
thing is with mayweather he will fight dirty if he has to and there are a few fights were he does...i dont know if any1 else has noticed that

@topdog90U
Dont forget Bradleys headbutts.
all fighters, tend to do it, at some point
u can't use alot of great techniques in boxing and transform it into mma - as soon as u even get in this close to fight your shit to clinching or take downs - also if you even use the philly shell standing up, try rolling your shoulders to a kick or better yet, being fast enough to pick your left arm up to stuff a take down

nope. false. sorry. mayweather does not use his elbow to hit the face. he uses it to PUSH the opponent away then hitting with his lead right.

@tahthedon True that, I box as an amateur out of southpaw. Other issue is the fact you can't really use it yourself haha.
Is it boxing?
or..
martial art?
cotto def. does pose a threat to floyd's 0. you're crazy if you dont see that
thats how he uses the shell not to take cheap kidney shots im not a nut rider but the guy is a genius in the ring, but what he needs to do to finally shake his many haters is to let Antonio win one more fight then beat him sometime next year...even though AM is naturally 20 pounds heavier then what he fights at, which is why he pounded cotto

Funny two grapplers teaching boxing
Thats Floyd Mayweather all day......
nice i use dis defense not as gud yet nice way u break it down.
Ty
mayweather fought any body else like the way he fought hatton those tacktic were only for hatton and you have over done the elbow thing
you are wrong, this is a good video.. read my reviews above
I am black, and that comment was uncalled for! Every race sucks at boxing if they are incompetent or poorly trained!!
ik they aint tryna say my boy floyd is a dirty fighter
Yeah man you need to watch MayWeathers fights. ChrisJackson is right.
to make it simple, boxers use elbows all of them do, PBF uses them for separation from time to time not to win fights, he wins them because of superior skill, speed, and defense and for this guy to suggest that a professional boxer of ricky hattons aggression would allow mayweather to be able to grab and control him like that in real time is ludacris, PBF fighting style totally goes against this his is to quick to fight in the clinch that much besides his best punch is the left hook which is wha

FLOYD USED THE ELBOW AGAINST DE LA HOYA
Gee.. The Basics of the Philly Shell defence went right past you... you cant build techniches off the phily base when you can clearly see you dont understand, or have used it sufficiently under the pressure of sparring
everyone's a dirty fighter if you can get away with it. if youre not cheating youre not trying hard enough
What a chump. If you need to cheat it's because you're garbage on multiple levels. Garbage boxer and garbage human being
he uppre elbowed hatton all night!
i dunno about the move at 2:20 doesnt make any sense what soever
This dude is all Wrong. That's not what Mayweather does.
man pacman is an exeption ... hes not the best but hes good
this looks more like karate
@PhantomUAV lol - fair enough!
Thanks coutch am morocan ctithent
lol.... MMA takes much skill but boxing is way, way better as a spectacle.
might as well incorporate an illegal knee to the groin.. might as well
lmao...i watched floyd's fight hundreds of times. he puts his forearm in the guys face and pushes off with it but thats about as dirty as he gets. the left jab/overhand right can catch floyd when hes on the ropes but thats about it. hes got too much youth and energy to retire and he'll be back after a year or two.
