    You panned across a shot of our two cabins!

    McCarthy became a ghost town in the 30’s, the Great Depression and other big copper deposits in other parts of the world made it uneconomical to keep the mine open. My in-laws were buying the whole town in early 1964, than the earthquake hit and they didn’t close the deal except for two cabins, which we still own.

    Beautiful scenery. The show is on TV in the UK at the moment called "edge of Alaska"

    Well I guess Neil got his way. Ruining an isolated community turning it into an amusement attraction while filling his pockets full of cash.

    You do such a good job of letting people know what to expect/see/do should they ever visit any of the stops you share along your adventures.

    So I guess Neil's big dreams of opening a big mine tour and a 100 bed motel with a spectacular view didn't pan out. What a shame. (Not a shame.) I hope the people who really wanted to keep McCarthy the way it was are satisfied with what has become of it. Not much of a tourist trap in the end. (PS: Edge of Alaska series, if you have no idea what I'm talking about. Can watch all 4 seasons on UA-cam with ads.)

    What a disgrace. I believe Neil ignored the residents and turned it into one big tacky gift shop.

      I was very disappointed that it was no longer in service. I was looking forward to taking the basket across the river,

    It amazes he doesn't seem to even know there was a series, 4 seasons long, on Discovery about McCarthy called Edge of Alaska...

      @Don Avan Yeah... I was curious to see if he mentioned or talked to any of the people from the show. I guess not :(

    • @ddaley294
      @ddaley294 5 років тому

      @Don Avan Yeah. The show was enjoyable. But, it did portray the residents as accident prone klutzes. It did seem that a lot of the drama was staged. I was mainly interested in seeing how far they got into the mines. Would love to see more of the mines. After how much Jeremy talked about how important living a self reliant lifestyle was to him and how important McCarthy was to him, he apparently moved to Kiln.

    Just watched some of the show Edge of Alaska with my best friend, and it's definitely changed from the show. Beautiful town, but it's lost it's "edge" in alot of ways.

    Almost like the little community of hope Alaska was in Alaska in June of 2019 for 5 days ever since I got back to Texas from Alaska I have been missing Alaska every day wish I could live there but I only get 947 dollars a month from disability because of a motorcycle accident and I don’t think that is enough money to live there

      In 1993, already there were 20,000 tourists a year going to Kennicot.

    Look there's no law anybody could go to Mccarthy take out the only person who is truly in charge of the town and bring something in for the town, right then you own Mccarthy. The town would get on their knees if you bring enough. Lol now is this TV series a lie or what.

    Sorry sir you’ve got your facts wrong about the history of the town. There have always been people living there, even after the mine closed. Research first, vlog later!

      Big bucks to live there, last time I was there, couple of half acre parcel were available. 50,000-100,000 per.

    Did Neil achieve his dream of modernizing McCarthy?
