I recently bought a 2023 Audi S5 Sportback in the Prestige trim for $63K plus taxes in Southern California. Very happy so far. I know this will be a more expensive car to maintain than any Japanese or American equivalent, but I love the Audi design aesthetic and the A5/S5 is one of the most beautiful cars on the road. I wanted a car that makes me smile every time I look at it, and the Audi S5 is it.
Prestige trim with these extra packages costs around 74K in year 2023. Wondering how you negotiated price to 63K? I just went to a local dealer, they have same car as yours but of cause year 2024. MSRP 75,300$. They willing to negotiate zero. I left. 😎
@@sunshadow9704I had the same experience with a couple of dealers. Their 'best price' was MSRP and they didn't seem interested in negotiating. I was lucky to find mine already on sale with $6,000 off MSRP, and I was able to get a little more off.
Love the S5. Bought a 2022 model. Puts a smile on my face everytime I get into it. That engines is fantasic, no wonder it is shared with Porsche models.
I just got the 2018 model and it's amazing. Launch is brutal, sounds great, is comfortable when you want it (even though I don't have the adaptive suspension). Highly recommend :)
The Audi S5 easily (you asked S5 v Supra). Real wheel drive in snow country - not an option. And for a daily driver I want the comfort of an Audi and like that biker who got in your Supra, I don't want a yoga class every time I get in the car. A great review - the aerial shots really add to your review - well done.
Thanks Roger. All good points. The emotional appeal of the supra is quite strong, but the Audi is a masterpiece of German pragmatism with some considerable flair and fun built in. I also would never buy the supra, or an RS5, because I would lose my license in short order.
I have never researched a car more and fell in love with it more!!!! Can’t wait to get mine!!! I’m currently in a Mercedes CLS400 and I’m ready for something young, fast, sporty!!!
Have a 2023 Prestige package in daytona grey. Amazing car! 30 mpg but will absolutely fly down the freeways in comfort and smoke most cars off the line in launch mode. 100 mph will make you yawn it is so smooth but it wont let you set cruise above 95 unfortunately.
Full launch control should require you to push and hold the stability control for a full two seconds or so then it a will function properly and rev to about 2k. Quick press doesn’t generally work on an Audi. Try it next time, chaps.
Ah yes that cavernous warehouse of space, could comfortably fit a family of four and their occasional overnight visitors. This car has zero storage upfront. There’s no defence to be made 😅
@@grancaminodrivingclubI've never had an issue with storage in my S5. If you've got something that won't fit up front, try the huge trunk with fold down seats and a hatchback!
Great video. I just got my 2024 S5 Technik, Mythos Black with black trim, just like what you test-drove. Thinking it's too aggressive being all black. May change Audi logos to chrome so it's not too aggressive looking. I'm 60 y/o, not a young 30-40 y/o. Thoughts?
I have a 2019 S5 premium plus. Even going through jack in the box, it gets comments from people. I get double looks all the time, and I’m pretty sure it ain’t me. The only gripe I have about it is there’s a lag when the turbo kicks in.
Man I wish the S5 was just 60k. Here in Europe these are crazy expensive, in my country ~94k $ base with no extras. so you're looking at almost 110k for a decent one
Add a -$1K 034 stage 1 ECU & TCU mild tune in it and power bumps to near 450 hp and over 550 lb.ft. Trust me I have this, it’s waaay faster, more exciting where the stock car falls a little flat in the midrange. Btw, ya can’t bring your kid in a booster seat or your dogs in the Supra.
Sounds like amazing value for money, Pete! Would love to give that a go, ideally on a more exciting road than Ontario has to offer 😅 Who needs kids when you have a supra? 😉
Such a beautiful car! Great review, subscribed! I'm caught stuck between the S5 and the Kia Stinger GT2. Both super great, Stinger a little less expensive with more interior features... but it's a Kia!!
Supra is BMW made? Would explain the preference (assuming it's because of the way it drives; BMW are tough to beat on that). I think I would take the Audi though. Their interior design beats just about most other things. It's more practical. Understated. Virtual cockpit is nice. Don't like the red interior though. That would have to be in black. Don't knock the diesel S5 either. It's just as quick as the petrol version you've got here. Same top speed but with fuel prices out of control I'd tempted to go diesel instead of having to pay for premium. Good review. Congrats.
They were surprisingly comfortable. Plenty of leg room and headroom, given the car. Plenty comfortable for a road trip. Next time we’ll be sure to cover that in the video.
tiny two seater vs roomy 4 seater.... Different use cases completely, I own the S5 and looking to get the z4 as a fun car. The supra is kinda awful compared to the z4.
Logically I can’t fault you there. For us the supra has way more of a nostalgia factor than the Z4, which makes a huge difference with to such an emotional decision. We explain more of this in our supra video. I guess we need to test the Z4 for a true comparison 😉

It is a wild comparison from one perspective, but from price perspective it’s pretty reasonable to compare the two. I agree that the s5 is a more sensible option

It is a handsome car for sure. I noticed the turbo lag too, but if you leave it in sport mode and keep the revs above 2,500rpm you can reduce it

$600 tune gets you another 100hp/100tq+ thats up there with rs5 m4 m5, bigger turbo gets you super car speeds
And it is a complete sleeper, you’d never expect that performance form such a subtle car
You can't compare a 2 door supra to a 4 door sportback .
Next time show us how practical rear sits are we care about that too

Those are nice vehicles, but the styling of the S5 is vastly superior. I get questions and compliments on my 2018 S5 Sportback all the time.
