  • In today's episode we look at all the new parts we got for the e30 and address a comment I received on a recent video about if k swapping your car is really worth it!
    I hope you all agree, that everything is circumstantial and changes depending on who you ask! I believe this is a great swap and worth every penny!
    Thank you all so much for watching! ryansprojectracecar.com/

    Of all the swaps out there, the K24 fits right into the E30's soul...and...at a much, much lower price than an E30 / M3.

      It absolutely fits the soul!! I think its also great that it started out as the m42 which is also a 4 cylinder! It's going to fit the e30 great!

    Ryan, you make so many good points in your video.
    As I've said before, I am in process of building a K24 swapped E30. I love watching your videos. I like seeing how we sometimes we are doing the same thing different ways.
    I just told my wife the other day, I'm spending 20,000 to build a 12,000 dollar car. It's not about the money it's about the love of the hobby.
    Another point that should be mentioned is how good of a chassis the E30 coupe is for this purpose. For years guys have been praising the 240SX as a great chassis for engine swaps. Today you can hardly find a reasonably priced 240 to build. The S13 chassis had a curbweight of 2700 lbs and the S14 2800 lbs. The E30 coupe has a curb weight of 2800 lbs. In my case, swapping from an M20 to the K24 shed a whopping 160lbs. So in my build my horsepower to weight should be 450/2640. For comparison the C8 base Corvette is 495/3600. I am in no way sayuing my car will be faster than a C8, they are just interesting numbers.
    You make a great point about the K24. I hate this analogy but it truly is the LS of the 4 cylinder world. I fully plan to flog mine until it blows. Then in stage 2 I'm going from a getrag 260 to a CD009 trans with a built K24 from 4Piston. 4Piston is building some incredible K24s for pretty reasonable money. 10-13k will get you an engine with a custom head that can make 1000 hp.
    Ryan, keep on keeping on. Your videos are great!
    P.S. Get rid of the ABS. The pump will inevitably die. The pumps are unavailble. If you are insistent on keeping it, I will send you my pump free of charge because you will need a backup.

      I'm sorry it took so long to get back to you! But these are also really good points, I have always loved how e30s have driven, unfortunately the price of e30s have risen as well but still pretty affordable! The lightweight chassis really are the way to go! I'm definitely hoping the e30 will be faster than a Vette😂 but yes the 4 piston is just about the best way to go, all things considered the k series is definitely an amazing platform and a great engine to learn on! I'm so glad there are so many others doing the same journey! Thanks for the support man!

    Hell yeah these videos help. Keep going. The real ones are rooting for you! I think you should have a huge parts list. That’ll help spread the love for the people wanting to start this real real soon ( like me!)❤

    Great work man! I’m working on my own ambitious E30 swap with an M54b30. Not quite the power of a turbo k series but I’m stoked to have fun in it. 🤙🤙

      Thanks man! That's awesome! The 3L is definitely a good choice! That should have plenty of torque in the little e30! Good luck on the build man!👌🏻

    Really great video, don't know if you realise but you've still got the FWD engine mount bracket on the engine that doesn't need to be there. The black bit below the rocker cover.

      @ProjectRacecar2  3 місяці тому +1

      Thanks man!! Yeah I was using that front mount to move around the engine! I need to get shorter hardware to delete that! It definitely looks a bit funky on there😂

    great video and great point. If it’s a hobby and something you enjoy the value isn’t just what you sell it for. Ask any hobbies golfer, personally I’ve spent thousands and thousands of dollars and am the farthest away from making money off of it. 😂

      @ProjectRacecar2  3 місяці тому

      Exactly! Any hobby is going to get very expensive especially the further you go into it! I've been able to grow so much as a mechanic throughout this process and it's taught me a ton so that is invaluable! And the experiences make everything worth it!

    Really good information. To what car would you compare k24 in a e30. I want to do the same swap but keep it na
    Thank you

    • @ProjectRacecar2
      @ProjectRacecar2  3 місяці тому +1

      One of the closest comparison would be the s14 from the e30 M3, both engines have 210ish HP, the M3 engine is 2.3L while the k24 is 2.4L both are high revving and light weight! But the s14 engine is about $15k😂 so the e30 M3 is the closest it would be to🙂

    in the future plan on doing k swap e30 i have no experience but been doing research its so nerve racking debating on if i should rebuild an engine myself or have a shop do it what do you think ¿¿ spooky

    • @ProjectRacecar2
      @ProjectRacecar2  3 місяці тому

      Overall k series are pretty simple and there is an insane amount of information online about rebuilding k series, but I think it all depends on your mechanical abilities, I have yet to rebuild an engine, but wouldn't be a bad engine to learn on since they are cheap and simple!

    Any benefit in going with a K24 over a K20?

    • @ProjectRacecar2
      @ProjectRacecar2  2 місяці тому

      The k24 is going to have more torque a bit higher power, in terms of fitment I know the k20 is shorter so it has more hood clearance but I don't know about the fitment on any of the swap components, I know the companies that made the swap kits used a k24 so I went with k24, they can also be a bit easier to find

    Let me leave a comment (something I don't ever usually do, already liked and subbed), to feed the algo, and also fuel your motivation. Although I don't have a car at all, I watch so much different car content from so many creators, but my goal would be a k-swap e30, just like what you're building. Keep at it, it's great to have this resource. Hope one day I can replicate (near impossible here in Europe).
    If i could leave some constructive tips, consider longer episodes with different pacing. Mix in work and pauses for talk. Rethink the music choice. Show more mechanical work and tips. I would say to check out ImJoel and his channel and his videos on e30 and his pacing and mixing of content. Hope your channel keeps growing! Looking forward to more content! 💪

      Thank you for the motivation and support! I hope you are able to do this swap in the future! But I really appreciate the constructive tips, I have been trying to get better making better content, I will definitely try to work on all of those things! Thanks man! Cheers
