I think a community college is a great option for the first year. Don't have to spend two years there but get your freshman classes out of the way and transfer as a sophomore. You can still live on campus as a sophomore and still get that experience
It's not always a certainty you'll get in though and even less of a certainty of being able to live on campus as freshman are prioritized
