Hooray! Thanks for the review. Being an Audi guy, owning one is knowing why you like it. When my Audi was in the shop for warranty work, the dealer rented a Tesla from Hertz. Seemed like the Tesla was more of a software system built into a so-so car with a luxury price. Whereas the Audi is a luxury car first, with an electric motor. Which car is the most durable and dependable remains to be seen. My 8 year old eTron has been a great car.
Well stated. I am actually considering the Q6 and the new redesigned Model Y. I like the Tesla because as you stated it is software 1st with the car built around it. If Tesla is serious about cars in time they will get the build quality up. But how they built their vehicles the efficiency is pretty high, and I like to travel so that matters for me, even in gas vehicles. That is why I love my Passat, and A6. I want to drive the new Model Y when it comes out, and then the Q 6 back to back if possible, then I will make my decision. If not I want to hold out for the new Q8.
We just got a 2019 Etron a few weeks ago. Exactly what I would expect from a luxury German brand: great comfort and performance topped off with random electronics glitches. Oh yeah, piano black was never a good idea.
How is Tesla Model Y (or model anything for that matter) without massage and many of the features and premium materials that traditional luxury vehicles have a competitor? Does Tesla even have Corolla build quality yet? I’m still seeing lots of reports of major flaws on their lauded truck. I’m interested in knowing what about the feel of the materials, quality switchgear (if there is any switchgear), abundance of luxury amenities and elevated dealer experience qualifies Tesla to be in these luxury competitor conversations that has ALL off the reviewers embracing them in this category. On another note Alex I’m really interested in the massaging seat functions as someone that takes a lot of really long road trips. Would you mind doing a video of all the brands you’ve sampled from Mercedes, Ford, GM, Audi, BMW, Volvo and others to share your rankings? We so enjoy the detail and time you put into your reviews. Thank you for your past and continued efforts. 🤙
I don't think a lot of people are going to really cross shop a Tesla with this. Tesla's are great, but they feel like 1990's KIA's compared to the real luxury companies (Porsche, BMW, etc...). Funny enough, I recently drove an EV6 and it feels MORE luxurious than the Tesla Y...
Finally some normal door handles, physical buttons, and an opening moonroof. Tired of the pop out handles that freeze in the winter and fixed glass roofs.
I really like that EVs just look like normal cars now. In my mind the only reason to make them look funky is to keep people from buying too many of them.
I play a game with myself whenever I'm on the road, guessing what make/model a car is before I can see the badging, especially challenging at night. More often than not, if it has cool tailights, it's an Audi. Now you say Audi is introducitng OLED customizable taillights? That tracks!
Have either of them driven one of those yet? Maybe they were just referencing what they have driven or maybe it was a simple slip of the mind since they have not been behind the wheel of that one yet.
Alex, Did you say northern California? It must have been disorienting to travel such a short distance for a debut and then find Roman sitting in the car. 😉
It took 21 minutes to mention the lyriq as competitor and that is probably the most obvious competitor. I assume it wasn't mentioned because it's being inferred no one would compare a Cadillac to an Audi. The lyriq outsells any German EV crossovers.
Looks like I might be the only person cross shopping these and the Lyriq. The only thing I don't like about the Cadillac is that it's apparently very non-dynamic to drive.
I don't want to pay for all the software to have "dancing" DRL's or rear lights 1) I don't see them when driving so who cares ? 2) just make some highly visible lights for safety (isn't that what they're for after all ???
Do legacy OEMs actually care about or spend any time doing “updates”? Seems like they are locked into making you buy a new car every 3 years rather than continually improving an existing car that they already got money for.
In the age of basically everyone over the age of 12 already having a smartphone shoved in their face, I don't know if there is a feature more useless for these modern luxury car companies putting in a big ugly passenger screen. More expenses, less premium materials, uglier interior layouts. I truly don't understand it.
@@naveenthemachinein some respects people are told what they want, and made to believe they should pay more for it. I’m sure you know that is very easy for people to become brainwashed.
@ the docking station not so much imo because what if you have a thick phone case? Often thick cases won’t be able to fit in docking stations. More USB ports I agree though
Why don't you ever talk about the other benefits of a true 800v architecture besides charge times? Like the drastic weight reduction using smaller conductors, the higher efficency and the better motor packaging due to the smaller size.
Because it only matters in the context of the final benefit. No one is comparing interior volume and trying to determine whether it was driven by 800V, but charging times are easy to compare.
I would probably take a Polestar 3 over the Q6, eventhough they are very closely matched. The 3 looks much nicer, has a much nicer interior, and is simply cooler.
I generally like Audi design but what's up with the hideous tortured appendages all over the front with glossy plastic garbage and trying to create a fake grill?
Not too mention the interior. Honestly the lyriq interior looks better than this Audi. But apparently it's not good enough to be considered a competitor in his eyes
Off topic but am I crazy? I swear I saw a Model 3 Performance video from this channel in my feed that I intended to watch later but now there is no such video. Did I imagine it?
The rear end is too rounded off/soft looking compared to the relatively chiseled front/side. The gloss black interior trim and driver displays that aren't shaped to match their rounded bezels are also disappointing in an all-new luxury EV.
I find this very unattractive. It looks portly and cheap especially in that commercial van grade white paint. For the money and style I'd take a Cadillac Lyriq or Porsche Macan EV. And for goodness sake please stop using the shiny black plastic!
@@CapELarry there are two recent studies by iSeeCars and Lending Tree which I think the OP is referring to. Why would looking at those studies be uninformed? To be fair though, those studies were not causal and did not imply why the vehicles got into accidents so hard to say Tesla itself is worse (or better) than anyone else just by itself as responsibility could equally fall on the driver or circumstance.
This will probably ride 10% better than the model y juniper (non air suspension models), and will cost a shit ton more money, a more luxurious interior but I don’t think that’ll be enough to justify the cost especially something like the SQ6 who’s choosing that over the model y juniper performance (based on the new model 3 performance), Tesla has basically perfectly split the mainstream/ luxury segment with the 3/y, not even a Tesla fanboy you just gotta give them props with what they’ve Been able to do

Glad to see 800v architecture take over. Hopefully 48v will also be there for low voltage systems. The industry is way overdue for a change.
For heaven’s sake, Audi. Ditch the glossy black plastic trim.
Agreed! I swear modern Audi/BMW/MB interiors are a downgrade from 5-6 years ago. Too much shiny and hard plastic.
It seems designers live under a rock
It’s so bleak.
Yes, drop those fingerprint magnet gloss black!
All rear wipers should be tucked under from the top spoiler, not exposed on the bottom.

The lyriq is much more of a competitor for this than model Y. The model Y is clearly not a luxury vehicle and not in the same ballpark as this
As a Tesla owner I agree. Also none of them have 360 view.

I really like that EVs just look like normal cars now. In my mind the only reason to make them look funky is to keep people from buying too many of them.
The front end, especially the shape of the daytime running lights and the outline of the “grille”, remind me of the last-generation Hyundai Kona EV
Ha! I was thinking the same thing.

😆 I do the same
Why not mention the Porsche Macan EV which is build on the same platform and priced similarly before Porsche options?
Yup. Obviously. Much closer competition than Model Y which cannot hold a candle to the luxury and refinement of this Audi.
Have either of them driven one of those yet? Maybe they were just referencing what they have driven or maybe it was a simple slip of the mind since they have not been behind the wheel of that one yet.
We did but we ended up cutting that out because the video got suuuuper long...
@@AAutoBuyersGuide Maybe have a longer video as an option? Love the hour long detailed out of spec videos.

Would not ever buy anything from Tesla.
Because they're so basic inside and the fact that our new queasy President is the CEO, NO Tesla. Start a movement to "NO TESLA"
I really hate the black gloss trim and buttons! I'll keep saying it every car review I see that has it.
Is there any difference in exterior between the Q6 and SQ6 in terms of body shape?

What colour is that SQ6 please ?
That white one looks terrible.
Ah Roman can’t help but take over your video haha. I want to hear your standard stuff more please. But not your fault
Out of the competition models you mentioned, I'd take the Cadillac Lyriq. This is Audi is close second.

I would say that the polestar is a bit low rent in terms of its interior and overall feel as compared to the Audi
I love it when we see the TFL crew show up in Auto Buyers Guide reviews!
Do legacy OEMs actually care about or spend any time doing “updates”? Seems like they are locked into making you buy a new car every 3 years rather than continually improving an existing car that they already got money for.
The Lyriq is too big but thinking of the new OPTIQ but still a slow(er) charge than the Audi 800v Architecture.

I'm a little bland-blasted by this one. Makes the Macan EV, even in base trim, more compelling.
Peter Schreyer moves from VW to Kia and designs follow. (Jokingly) Did Luc Donckerwolke move from Hyundai to Audi? I see a larger 2022 Kona here...
