step 2: make sure your aggressor is smaller than you
You’re right this may not be great for someone much larger than you. I would opt for more of a valley drop (judo/wrestling trip). And since it works on bigger and smaller people I train it way more.

I got put in a headlock in one fight when I was about 11 years old just down the street from my house. My dad taught me how to get out of a headlock by reaching back and going over the attacher’s head, grabbing their eye sockets with my fingers like claws and pulling straight back and down to the ground. He was in our driveway and watched it all unfold. I think that may have been the proudest my dad ever was of me. We had steaks for dinner and the other kid had two black eyes and a scratched cornea. Not really ideal in a fight between kids, but when it counted, it was affective.
Step 1: Find a guy who is half of your size...
Generally speaking, most attackers are going to be bigger than you are. This technique will definitely work on people bigger than you.

I got put into a headlock against a guy who could wrestle. I couldn't get out, so I went for the balls. I recommend the same for a life or death situation because it can be very hard to use proper technique in a violent surprise attack.
Correct. If it was so essy like he puts it ,it wouldnt be a prefered method of ufc ( choke out) . What hes saying is complete bull.ive studied martial arts for 42yrs,yes when in competition you are expecting all taught moves but on the street is something totally different.
Yup groin strike or grab then go into the technique. One reason why I grow my thumbnails for ripping and tearing .
One of you is going for the balls the other guy grows his thumbnails out Homo‘s.
Yup. No such thing as a fair fight in real life.
Eyes , balls , throat, nose, WIN THATS IT !
If your arms are that long, you can just Bobby Hill it and perform the “That’s My Purse!” low strike.

People really hating on this short, talking about being heavier than the other guy. When they exposed that they have no knowledge on how to fight. In Judo or BJJ or Jujutsu, or Sambo, you'll have guys be paired up and they have a 60lb-80lb weight gap. You should be strong enough to move 100lbs over your body weight at MINIMUM. Grappling is about leverage. If you need strength, you're doing it wrong. It HELPS, but it shouldn't be what you rely on in grappling.
Great advice, I’m 44 and not been caught in a headlock in about 30 years, but I’ll bear this in mind should I ever need it.
if you don't drill it you won't do it when the time comes
34 years ago, in high school, I watched someone actually escape a headlock in a very similar way. He dumped the other guy on the concrete and it was over. Then we trained that move in Karate years later... and now in Jiu-jitsu.
Damn bro! I didn’t know you were really the guy that invented jiu-jitsu?!
@@-ser0ooo-766 what lol
@-ser0ooo-766 who are you talking to? Where did anyone say anything about "inventing" jiu-jitsu?
Why is self defence always so polite and gentle. It feels like self defence is designed for an indoor dojo setting with rules like "dont aim for the groin or face, no hitting only grappling" and so on.
To expand on it and provide a sort of exagerated example, think of your favourite sword fighting scene... Do the soldiers grab eachother or each others weapon or kick or punch with their free hand or group up and hold a guy down or any of that... Or do they just politely swing their swords at eachother. Thats what a lot of self defence stuff you see online is like.
1) most important step: don't get grabbed in the first place. 9 times out of 10, an observant eye can see the grab or headlock coming, don't be complacent. Be observant and move out of the way of the threat.
2) if you do get grabbed or locked, aim for soft spots. Nutshot, claw, bite, gouge an eye, stomp some toes. Honor Don't matter when your life is at risk Make em hurt enough that they loosen their grip.
3) place force on their joints. No one's able to move their joints anh which way forever. In this case specifically, just push your palm against his elbow. Or better yet, strike it repeatedly. If you still can't get out after two tries or so, go back to step 2.
4) once you're out, either follow up and knock the assailant the fuck out, or run. If you can't guarantee you can end the fight in 3 moves or less, just run. No one jumps a guy without friends in this day and age.
He made it a bit more complicated than it needs to be, and note how he was the bigger dude in the situation.
Needless to say, only follow these steps if your life is actually in danger, not just rough housing with your friends. And also acknowledge that training doesn't improve your chances of winning a fight, it only improves your chances of survival; it doesn't make you some main character, so don't act like you are like this guy... okay?
Thank you. I just got headlocked and needed a tutorial to help myself get out.
Good thing he didn't have a 2 minute intro
If he's got you in a headlock, and his legs are spread like that, there's a far easier, more obvious, and less complicated counter.

It has amused me for 50 years that martial art instructors love to demonstrate their techniques on little people. They have no shame, even publishing photos and films of themselves doing it.

Perfect. So we all just walk around with the backs of our hands against our necks in case someone tries to put us in a headlock.
Most if not all confrontations are at least somewhat predictable. Did you also miss the part where he showed you exactly what to do when you don't guard in time?
@@fredstead5652 Your point is that they are teaching you to be ready for an attack from the rear? Are you an idiot? Why would your back be turned if you've "predicted" the attack?
Also, post your source for the claim that "most if not all" are predictable. I worked in close protection and that claim is not true.
Iv seen MMA fights stopped by old school head locks...I love this technique
I love this guy. He’s 100% trained up. He’s right about everything. And it’s all practical things we can do.
I always HATED being the assistant student for demonstrations, but looking back it forged me into a somewhat respectable individual. You don’t fear getting hit or pain when you’re constantly being hit for demonstrations even if it’s only 10% power
You don't fear because you know it's just playtime but guarantee you shit your pants in a real situation lol

Everybody has a plan ... - Mike Tyson
Until they get put in a head lock.
Maybe his attacker will attack him slow like that
he's also taller, bigger and stronger than his partner though...
Until they thought they had a plan after watching this.
But in all seriousness, this escape will work against someone who isn't trained, which will be the case most of the time. They will lose their balance and fall. If they do have good balance, step behind them and fall back, they will trip over you legs. Also you can just smash their nuts. A headlock, on average, is not a hard place to be. It can be escaped and also, they can't really hurt you from there. They can punch at your forehead and that's pretty much it.
This guy is absolutely BRUTAL!! Just the way it should be!!
Gobert should watch this😂😂😂😂😂
Good points. Also using your fist, hammering the gripping person on the nuts a couple of times will surely loosen the grip.

what I learned is the number one thing is you want, is to be completely aware your opponent is about to try and put you in a headlock.
You may think, but I think it's more about having any minor amount of actual training to help develop those instincts... I mean, nothing here seemed particularly difficult, it's all about how well you can handle yourself in the moment
I thought that too until my last fight when I got sucker punched in the side of the head next thing I know I'm in a headlock!, not a nice place to be as the guy said, only the knowledge of how to get out of it saved me a trip to the hospital

I absolutely LOVE this content. As a lifelong dedicated martial artist, and a former bouncer with about 14 years experience working at about a dozen different bars and clubs all over the St Louis City area, I've acquired an awful lot of "hands-on" experience dealing with real life violence, and self defense situations, including being jumped by multiple attackers..attackers armed with guns, knives, bottles, stools, clubs, etc..(and currently carry around a souvenir from one in form of a bullet in my back, and bullet fragments in my pelvis)
I've literally seen it all. And headlocks in a fight (especially between guys who can't actually fight) is so ridiculously common, it's almost expected than when two guys fight, one of them will headlock the other. There are really a handful of very common attacks that you see regularly in street and bar fights, and a headlock is definitely one of them.
Thanks so much for watching and providing service to the community. Take care of yourself out there.
