I will never forget when I first watched this episode - I had never heard someone so eloquently and succinctly articulate the reason I love design so well.
This documentary is just amazing. I actually took notes! Ilse is a really good communicator, the words she chooses, the way she expresses her ideas is truly outstanding. Many of the things she said resonate with my own thoughts and she offered me many new points of view and futher personal analysis. I am a fan🤗
I'm architect and I've been working with interior design since I graduated. Ilse's work has been very important in my work and my life. I could never thank enough!
Yes but why should we prioritize human needs?? Tell me a good reason why? Does the earth belong to us humans only? Who decided that? A designer? I think this designer has forgotten that we share the earth with a lot of other living creatures that are as important or even more important than humans are. There is no balance here in her work. So sad she has "prioritized" humans in this world and forgotten about the rest.
@@monicakrietsch-dominski7172 how does design belong to an animals? earth belongs to us humans only yes, we prioritize ourselves and create better world, we are the only creatures who can create something new.
What an excellent video/interview! I felt so many things! Really I’ve been woken up to an awareness for sense/feeling as a Designer. Thank you so much!
Crazy, this is an amazing episode. I am working in tech and in designing solution for our clients we also have the same philosphy of being human centric and empathetic to our target users :)
35:36 -"Mmm... It was grounds for a divorce, if a husband didn't make her coffee" -"Yeah, I usually get up and make you coffee." Take note, guys who still want to get married. ;) Awesome episode though. I got Interesting ideas for the apartment I'm living in + concise line of insight and concept articulations.
This video is really all about decoration and has nothing to do with design. Design isn't about people or well being, it is about bringing a vision into reality. Materials do not talk to each other. They are just things. The word design means: "Draw before you build." It does not mean more, or less. I only noticed some drawing, in the background. Another problem I have with this video is that there is no mention of the fact that interior decoration is exclusively for the rich people and not for the poor people, or even the middle class people! The intellectual niveau of this discussion is disappointingly low. Don't get me wrong. I am a fan of the series. There should be a distinction made between design and decoration, which this video completely ignores.
22:43 "The Together Table". If my plate of food was that close to the persons next to me, and our elbows were knocking each others, I actually wouldn't bother to sit at the f__king thing and have anything to eat.
Nice one. But taking the bark without damaging the trees…? That’s a nice tale to tell your customers, but without the bark insects and pests can much easier invade the tree. The tree has to close it therefore…it’s like taking a piece of skin.
Bark grows back. It naturally sheds its “Skin” every few years when the growth of the tree means the trunks girth is wider and so the outer layer of bark falls off. It also doesnt take much time for a tree to heal itself. If you cut yourself, within a few hours your white blood cells will have created a barrier to prevent infection. The same is in plants and trees but takes maybe a week or two but even so a tree isnt stupid, it knows to handle when its attacked.

The segment about materials in the airport is simply amazing
I like how she dare to play with colors in small spaces while other designers using white and natural colors. That's who I want to teach from!
"When you prioritize the human needs within a space, design can have a profound impact."

favourite quote: "we've got tow eyes, two ears and one mouth and we should use them in that proportion"
This has never happened to me before. The photo of the hallway(?) Cathay Airlines literally brought tears to my eyes. Fantastic.
This lady’s real gift is her energy. Very grounded.

Why don't you talk about City Designers?

I've really enjoyed this series. This episode less than the others. It has benn given far less creative interpretation. Shame.
