This was six months before MJ dropped _Off the Wall_ and changed music forever. It's hard to believe the _Destiny_ album turns 45 next month and the _Off the Wall_ album turns 45 in nine months. I wasn't born yet (my older sisters were) till 15 years later, but his impact from day one (and since his passing) has been consistent. There'll never be another family like the Jacksons/J5 and there'll never be an artist like MJ. This was/is a once-in-a-lifetime talent. #RIPMJ
@@diabolusvincit Everything is going to sound repetitive after awhile. That's not a valid criticism. Every track on Thriller was great and I would guess 95% of the fans out there prefer Thriller as his best album.
Glad u point that out. I was a little boy when this aired so i don’t know what’s up. I always wondered why the Jacksons didn’t sing live and just lip synced. Midnight special wanted the acts to lip sync or the acts just started lip syncing??
In the later years they did stop doing many live performances.....that has been pointed out many times in here by the Lip-Synch Playback police that inhabit these comments area that spend most of their living hours analysing every performance closely looking for anything that doesnt look "live".......welcome to the growing team of Einsteins..... Whether that means it was "never the same" is purely a matter of personal opinion....
It all comes down to honesty and integrity. No "police" involved as one poster states. It matters to me and many viewers if the audio is live or prerecorded.
Its 44 years ago - not yesterday.....nothing to do with honesty and integrity - there are thousands of lipsynchs performed on sorts of musical shows from the 1950s onwards - at the end of the day it may "matter" to some, but for many more of us it doesnt "matter" at all.....
If I could sing and dance like Michael Jackson I’d be rich too. Problem is, I can’t sing. And forget about dancing. I am pretty good at loading the dishwasher though.
Couldnt agree with you more- Lip synch sucked then, and sucks now - Live music is the only way! Shame a lot of bands couldnt reproduce their own music they supposedly performed in the studio? Makes you wonder, what was so hard or technical about this song they couldnt do it live? I watched ELO do Telephone Line on here and it was live........
@@Rockzilla404 - Maybe you should get a life instead of complaining about events from the 70s. I loved the Midnight Special for everything they offered. Most music I purchased back then was thanks to recorded playbacks which always sounded superior. Live versions are inferior.

Off the Wall was incredible! 😊

You can hear and see that Michael is about to break out to be a major major star. This must be one of their best non-hit songs.
Michael and Brothers. The gems are endless.
Me encanta cuando baila Randy ,casi al final
Classic from 1979! ❤️🔥
Just bought their self-titled album on vinyl a few days ago: “Good Times,” “Enjoy Yourself,” etc. A sentimental favorite.
Midnight Special jumped the shark when they stopped doing live performances. Never the same after that.

@hellogengammut2824 Those of us that care about artistry and reality accept your apology.
Heavenly voice!
Such a treat to see these videos. Thank you Midnight Special!
So much talent in one family talk about ones cup runeth over, definitely an understatement
The Midnight Special became a dance show that night! Pretty cool!😎💜
The Midnight Special was a disco in 1979 just like everything else.
@@gregoryduncan3067 I reckon you're right.😊
Mad props to MJ for getting hisself outta those mic chord tangles after his supa dupa spin moves even though it's all playback😂
Michael had the killer moves, the audience was totally into this, me too!!

When they were at their finest! Funny, there is no date when this show aired.
Happy Saturday... thank you for sharing! 💖
February 2, 1979.
@kbusby4824 Thank you, I did not see it. 😊 I see it now in the corner in nice big letters. 🤦♀️ I was looking in the description.
@@that70sgirl90 Easy to Google as I did.
From 1:18 to 2:30 💙 . No one from my generation can touch that aura and energy.

Honest fire
For those who criticizing lip-sync: Think this as a live concept music video. This wasn't meant to be a live perofmance at all.
This was back when Michael was cool. Those were the good old days.
I agree.
Indeed they were….
Before he butchered himself with plastic surgery.
....and black.
..? he still is what are you talking about lol. and he always will be
Legennnnnnd❤
Its all playback but cool nontheless... mfkr sure looked fly!!
Midnight Special was at its peak in the 70’s then it was all downhill and crash.
hard to believe that that was Michael Jackson -- almost a completely different person
Lipsync...booo. Leave these in the vault. TMS should be remembered as a live music show!
Thanks Einstein....if its OK with you we would like to see them anyway..

He 'went to a card reader'?! He sure wasn't listening to his momma. Ya'll read the bible through once, soon. Get Ready.
Sure he could sing live but this is 100% lip-sync.
Thanks Einstein....its still a performance and most of us enjoy them anyway.
too bad this is lip-synched
Thanks Einstein - most of us enjoy these anyway.....
I prefer lip sync. Live recordings are flawed and don't sound like what I loved about the recordings. I'm happy to see them in their prime.
I dislike playback and lip-sync so much!!
That was playback !!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Einstein - its still a performance and most of us enjoy seeing anything from TMS
Lip syncing? Nice to see The Jacksons but not that inspirational.
yes its "Lip syncing" Einstein - dont fret though....its 44 years ago

Traditionally the Midnight Special never had its guests lip syncing a$$ hole.. They always performed live
Maybe try knitting or something. Better than making silly comments.

Maybe you should research the history of Midnight Special guests performing live. Maybe then you would understand my thoughts..

Lip-syncing, and very poorly I might add.
Lip syncing but it's cool to see MJ when he was black.
