True about cupping and also true that sometimes if the board has a low moisture content it will crack down the middle of the width of the board when installing the screw .
Very informative video, I am about to start a new build timber house with vertical larch cladding, board on board, I have not been able to find much information on how to install the trim around the windows a video on this would be useful.
How thick would your spacer battens be if you were installing vertical cladding onto a block wall with cavity house? How would you fix the battens to the wall? I.e. would only the spacer battens be fixed to the wall or would your horizontal support battens also be fixed through the spacer battens and into the block wall?
If you have board on board do both bits want to be heart out? If the outside board is heart in then wouldn’t it cup with the board below or is it best to keep them all heart out?
Superb video. Great presenter. Highly informative. Learn more about cladding in 17 minutes than I thought possible.
Thanks for making this video. It's hard to find good and accurate information like this.
Best video I've found so far for batten/board on board. Cheers.

Love the open joint but what about the UV rays hitting it through the joints?
