Definitely a big difference. For a mechanic, you're a pretty good truck driver, Dan.
Try some dyno Matt people who install sound system use it to keep the material on the out side of the vehicle from Rattling from the sub woofer. It works plus you can cut to fit on the area with just a knife 🔪
I used Dyno- mat on a car restoration once, it's a bit pricey but, when you hear the final results, it's worth every cent! 👍✌️
Stop being a wanna be English teacher
Dan you’re DA MAN!!!!
It looks like you could insulate the cover and help reduce any noise that you might experience in the sleeper.
I thought the same thing!
Yes, my thought, too. They make sound-deadening sheets to line the trunk walls of cars, which should work better than the fluffy stuff they put in engine bays, but either would work well in this situation.
Dan find yourself an ol bicycle tire tube and put it in between it and that'll stop the vibrations from the motor running and that'll make it easier and quiter for you too
Good job Dan. Dan the handyman. 😉
Again,a great job, your skills to figure how to fix a problem, and then getting it done, especially on the road.
Dan, your roadside repairs amaze me.......
It’s a lot quieter now you worked on the cover.
If you ain’t driving it you’re working on it. Trucking 101
It sounds like an old 80s Thermo King reefer! I'd go nuts too!
Hey, hey, hey, when I was home couldn't sleep. Crank up the reefer and slept like a baby.
Swap them out with stainless steel hardware later on. Love how you carry extra nuts and bolts. When my dad drove he had coffee cans full of extra air fittings, bolts, lights and bulbs.
My dad has a 3 or 4 containers in his workshop with bolts, nuts, washers, screws etc. The closest store to buy that kind of stuff is a minimum 20 minutes from his shop
Thanks Dan. I appreciate your ability to make repairs and your concern for others. You are a good man. Blessings
Too bad you don’t have a movers blanket to protect your stainless cover and for your knees.
Good fix!
Great thing about you, Dan, is that you're always looking for solutions.
Nice fix Dan 👍🏻🏴
Sir Dan !! Yepper !!! ""THAT"S TRUCKING"" as Always something to keep your attention !! Great temporary fix !! Lots of comments on insulating the ""GENNY"" !!! Bailey will sure enjoy the peace & Quite !! HAHA Have a good week & Thanks for videoing & Sharing !! ""KEEP IT SAFE "" !!
Sounds much better Dan👌
Order some dynamat. It’s sound for sound deadening for cars. It weights down the metal to reduce vibrations.
You almost have to rubber mount everything!
That improved it....strap your small tarp on top of it to absorb the vibration til u get home, then get some dyna mat, do the inside of that box.., it'll make a huge difference 👍.
Yeah, that's it, tarp it down! LOL
Hi Dan good fix...also keep some pop rivets on hand and there is something called a mono bolt which is like a pop rivet and has the strength of a bolt...won't rattle loose either.
You need that sound deadening material they use on cars. Believe me it works and it has foil on one side and sticky glue on the other and you can line the inside of your generator cover box. Also check out UA-cam on generator home made covers. Some are quite working projects!!
Hauled many cheese loads for Kraft out of Wausau, Wisconsin to the east coast. There’s a truck stop up that way in Cottage Grove that was really nice.
Dynomat, or something similar. Is aluminum foil backed, butyl rubber sheets with adhesive. Stops most all rattles and insulates flat metal surfaces. Cheers,ed.
I put a small automotive electric fan on the back vent cover, on the inside blowing out, so pulled outside air through the box, wired to a switch, to cool the motor compartment in the hot summer months! I hauled slots out of Vegas, so was in the extreme heat! I also took a power washer to the inside of the cover, cleaned it really good, installed dyna-mat, made a huge difference! Also get a tub to keep you spare oils and antifreeze in! Road Rub is Real! Put some of that anti skid liner and put in the bottom, so you don't rub holes in the gallon jugs! And if you still get a hole in one of them the tub/tote will contain the spill!
Stanley ... on that set you'd want any blower to be forcing air in because that unit blows the hot air out the bottom.
@@rupe53 Nope! Sorry, but those do not blow air out the bottom. It does not have a radiator and fan in the box, it circulates the coolant up to the radiator in the front of the truck! These were custom made by Double Eagle, their design!
@@stanleyflory6702 ... you are correct on waste heat going to the truck engine / radiator via that aux water pump but generally this type of unit cools the gen end with air, and usually directed down. At least that's what they do in the RV industry. I'd be worried about modifying something the factory guys have already fine tuned.
@@rupe53 I have a 7K Power Tect diesel generator in my Monaco Windsor MH, and it is very similar to the Double Eagle with the Kubota diesel motor, but it has a radiator and shrouds that direct the air past the motor and generator head, and directs it down and out of the compartment! The Double Eagle 8K/10K surge generator does not have the motor driven fan and shrouds. It does have a fan in the generator head, but it does not move the air like the one in my MH!
Was hoping to see your stop in Curtis Michigan.
I think you should put some dynamat like material in I believe that all quiet it down quite a bit I enjoy your videos keep them up thank you sir you’re an absolute inspiration…. HOORAH!
Being an owner operator is like being an artist’s the picture is never finished
Good work Dan stay safe and safe travels mate 🌵🇬🇧👍
I don't know how you could ever get a diesel to run quiet...good luck. Look forward to all of your videos..
Good job and caring about others. We need more people like you.
Little red Corvette.
The shiny spots are where the cover is touching and transferring the noise. Might try to get softer motor mounts, for the genny. Boats have the same issue 😕 and isolating the engine helps greatly.
Hello Dan awesome fix you always have solving solutions to any problem my friend you have a safe travel and please keep the videos rolling...
Saw you going on 39 SB around Rockford, Illinois Friday evening! Looking sharp!
Oh no, not the reefer gang San.
Spray undercoating all over the inside of the cover, the put the insulation back. That might dampen the metal resonence
Raammat also works, you’d be surprised how little goes a long way ridding noise.
Alrighty then 👏👌👍
Have a look at dynamat sound deadener. I used it when I had my big boom booms and WAY too many speakers around the car because reasons..... It will dampen some of the noise for sure. Some of the thicker options work really well. It could knock out a good 15-20 dbs with a basic setup. 25-30 dbs going full ocd with the application.
I put some hot glue around the rivet's underneath on mine. Bam problem solved.
Safe travels, Dan!!!
Hi Dan, try putting a small strap around gen,
love the way you find a solution to so many of your problems, save a ton of money if you can stay out of shops. we all had a shop at home we could trust. anywhere else it's a risk. thanks Dan. pull toy here.
I give you credit. If you cannot fix the problem with your ingenuity then it’s not fixable. Carry on.
Good morning Dan. Rubber matting and a bead of caulk when you take it apart again. Caulk all the seams when you put it back together. Truck looks great!
There's always something to be done when you're trucking. Good job Dan. Stay safe my friend. God bless you 🙏.
That brand new APU you just got installed in your other truck would be a great addition to the new truck.
Regarding fuel prices, here in the UK, you would be paying $10 per gallon for diesel !!!
Heck yeah!!!
Hey dan try checking into that new green apu set-up ?
What's up
Thanks Dan
I was driving one with an ALP1000W On it . the heater was electric and was fitted with an electric block heater . Was really quiet
Don't be too discouraged you'll get all the bugs worked out of your "new" truck. (Just like your other trucks.) Take care!
The bolts would help to take care of the rattle and put a strip of insulation below the door and that should help with the rattle and I like that truck because of the sleeper it has everything in it and it makes it feel like home
Alot better
Hope you get the gremlins all sorted out soon
You gotta do what you gotta do!! Work with what you have!!! Be safe out there Brother Peace
Great looking truck, Dan. Upgrade to some 379/389 headlights and a squared off bumper. Will set the looks off.
Dan, Lowes or Walmart has these little carrying cases that you can carry various screws, nuts, bolts and washers in. its flat enough to fit anywhere. i had 2, 1 for the bolts and one for the different fuzes that my truck used, even the little led lites. i still have the one with the bolts, etc. had to check, its called "Stanley's professional organizer."
100% improvement 👏
Safe travels Dan
Noisy Generator would be a Huge distraction at Night so hopefully you figure out the noise issue.
Hey Dan, you could try and put some thicker rubber grommets in between bolts that hold generator to box. Just an idea.
them reefer drivers would love you park beside them , They will probably tell you turn that up To about 4 RPM Dan 😂
Be safe take care of yourself Dan
Good job Dan. Helped out some.
Stay Safe
Maybe a bracket in there some how to brace it
Good thing you have mechanical skills.
Can probably get some chrome plastic caps for those bolt heads you put in to help conceal them👍👍
replace the bolts with carriage headed ones and it will be good on the outside.
Great job dan. I hope all is well seems like you are a little stressed out last couple videos cant wait for another video be safe out there
Hi
Always did my best not to park next to a referral or close to one as possible
Great work
If you can't fix it...kick it. FYI...get a rivet gun and get the mat like others said to affix to the case
DYNAMAT! and there are cheaper versions but you get what you pay for.
Always carry some JB Weld - works wonders.
A little piece of 30 pound roofing felt stretegly placed in a place or two would take care of the noise. With the nuts and bolts.
Reefers, all that nonsense dont bother me because my truck stays on 3 weeks at a time.
I dont hear reefers because my truck rattles too
Maybe a couple of Motor Mounts like for Engines in Cars may help with the Vibration and Noise ??
That before sound was pretty terrible. I would consider parking next to reefers as an act of revenge if that was my APU.
part of the reefer gang, that's funny right there! should be a special area for those vans.
get the green apu you will love it
Take some hard plastic and some screws on each corner it should cut down rattled
Hard to fix on the road. You can make it soon and really fix it.
Wonder if the genset rubber isolator feet mounts are worn ❓🗽🇺🇸
Did you use a lock nut or lock washer it may vibrate off. Just a thought.
Those older gen-sets were not known for being quiet. Maybe you could pick up a used Onan set to replace it with. Those are usually fairly quiet
At least you didn't have a screw loose.
Hi Dan,
Kubota machinery in general is hard to work on, costly on parts and a PITA to rebuild.
You can re-peen the rivets with a ball peen hammer and a small hammer or solid piece of steel as a back stop.
There are some good videos on how to fix revit situations on aluminum boats on YT, Check Outdoor Sam in Wisconsin, his videos are short and to the point. He is a bit brash outdoorsy type.
JB Weld it
Hey Dan, dumb question for you as not many aussie trucks run APUs. Have you thought about fitting a lawn tractor muffler and straight pipe so that the engine noise is reduced? I understand that the covers vibrate and make a lot of noise that can be rather annoying at times and the rubber insulation strips will be helpful. Stay safe mate & give Bailey a good belly rub.
When did Dan start driving this truck? Where'd it come from?
Yes sir cool video Dan 👍
There's a product called duct board, its a high density insulation board with a threaded foil facing on one side 1" thick that works great for noise supression in your situation if you have the space to put it?
👍
For only having 47K subscribers you get a lot of views.
Dan what if you insulated the entire box inside and out?
Silicone the rivets
There is a UA-cam name just trucking with a new type of APU you may want to into
👍😎👍
