So glad I clicked on your video. This is one of my favorites in the 1990s and I remembered a magazine ad with a model upside down. Tried googling it and couldn’t find it. Then I saw it in your video and I thought…ok I’m not crazy it did exist😀

I just hear about it from the movie. See no evil, hear no evil.

I’ve never liked Shalimar, but my nose has changed and grown with time and I would love to smell it now.

I love Shalimar to me it smells citrusy powdery and vanilla with some smoke. People tell me I am to young to wear it since i am 20 but i started using it at 15. I just like smelling like a classical haunted house. I don’t like smelling like a mens strip club like most young men smell like too musky.

My favorite vintage (of the many that I own) was the edt from circa
1988/9. The bottle is maybe the ugliest one ever - it looks more like a refill/recharge - but I love it. It’s what all my French class friends and I wore on our trip to Europe in the summer of ‘89. I should say all of us naughty girls who smoked. Lol I’m from the U.S. and don’t want to go off on our hypocritical, Puritanical laws, we weren’t supposed to be but we all did at home. I loved Marlboro Reds (which were even better in England, strangely), and discovered Dunhills, and State Express International 555s while there. We traded cigarettes - and our denim - which our French teachers told us to leave at home! 😂 - with local teenagers. (We all agreed Gauloises were rank disgusting.) We drank and smoked there since we were of legal age. The teachers were so angry with us, they nearly sent us home, but the other U.S. group from another state, which had more parents along, I think made them see reason, and told them to chill out because some of these “kids” were getting married and going into the military in the next year and aren’t all these laws back home so arbitrary? Anyway, this is all to say that Shalimar edt blended beautifully with cigarette smoke. And even though I haven’t smoked anything in decades and I barely drink anything other than cordials at holidays anymore, i don’t need to. A sniff of this vintage takes me right back to the streets of London, Paris, Cannes, Aix en Provence, etc Listening to INXS, The Gun Club, Simple Minds, Guns n Roses, and The Lost Boys and Rain Man soundtrack cassettes on my Walkman that June/July of 1989.

The current parfum bottle is exactly the same as that vintage bottle

Vintage Shalimar is very nostalgic for me because my mom wore it when I was little, but it's too much on me. I love the Eau Legere version, however. Might wear it today, in fact!

I’m not sure if I had a vintage sample but I ordered a sample a few months ago and it smelled just as you described it. It was an addictive soft blend of lemon, vanilla and powder. I did get leather notes as well but it was not skanky as some people have said.

That leather note was a dealbreaker for me - like oh no honey, you can keep that!

I do prefer the older formulations of Shalimar EDP. I have a bottle from around 2000 and I really enjoy it. When I smell the current formulation in store, I find the balance off and it somehow smells more dated than my 20+ year old bottle.

The current EDT is not good on me; but I LOVE the current pure perfume. I remember smelling it decades ago but don't have any vintage at this point. I have never tried any of the flankers.

I have a version from the 90’s. Its strong, kind of pleasant if I spritz only one time far from my neck. I cant stand any vintage perfumes, but I keep this one for reference, and wear it from time to time when I am at home. I loved to hear your thoughts on this🌸🌸

I have a couple of bottles of the vintage Shalimar parfum and the current EDP and current EDT, also the Cologne and the Millisine Tonka. I love them all. Each one offers something special imho.

I used to have Shalimar eau de parfume during 1980’s so quite vintage. It was relatively strong so didn’t use it much, beautiful bottle though.

I received a free sample of Shalimar EDP, with my bottle of Gourmand Coquin. I am assuming it is a current version. At 15 minutes in I am finding myself thinking it is pretty great which surprises me a lot. Nothing sharp yet at least. I did not think I would like this. Very warm fragrance on my skin. Not overpowering. Really interesting.

If you don t like the perfume, try shalimar cologne. It is a mix between edt and edp. And cheaper. I wear Shalimar for almost 20 years. It is perfection.

Vintage Shalimar parfum/extrait is the best perfume on the planet. If I had to choose one scent for the rest of my life it would be that.

I love your videos. I like jow you describe perfumes. Have you heard of Ellen Tracy Bronze ? On Fragrantica it mentions it reminds that scent to this Shalimar, its has a citrus opening and than a powdery vanilla. But dont know if thats true ,im curious to try the Ellen Tracy Bronze but scared 😊

I figured out that I don’t like EDPs of the classics Shalimar and No 5. I have the “Cologne” style of each and also the Parfum. Cologne for an airier version of the DNA and Parfum for the intense and less harsh version

I’ve never tried shalimar. I know it’s been around forever but the animalic aspects of it just make me feel like I’d never get into it. I do have the soufflé version in my cart and I want to blind buy it. I’ve heard it’s a more modern take less harsh and lovely vanilla lemon scent

The sharpness you’re smelling is the bergamont and synthetic civet. It can give a kind of disenchanting and off putting smell for some people. I’ve smelled and have worn the modern and vintage from the 50’s. Both parfum and EDP. The vintage has the actual civet essence that gives the fragrance a more mature smell and makes the powder scent calm down which doesn’t make it smell like a grandma. However it does smell a bit “funky” in a sense in the 50’s version, which I don’t mind. In the modern parfum extrait after the synthetic covet dies down and the bergamont fades to the back you get the richness of the fragrance which the EDP lacks. I prefer the vintage parfum extrait over the EDP, but I prefer the modern parfum extrait over the vintage.
