I appreciate you a lot for shedding light on this I been called a Beaner a Spic and a Wetback but I never understood it and nor did I give the word the power people think it has over us
I can't make everybody/anybody respect me but I can make sure nobody disrespects me. I use brother in the place of "N" when talking to MY ppl. Even being black myself, I don't have ANYONE in my circle that uses that word. We love each other to life over here.
That sounds all fine except I know that bc you said “MY people “ tells me what I already know. Reverse racism is real bad in the south right now. So much so that a black guy will walk right past me and not say a word and then say “hey what’s up MY BROTHER” to a black guy right beside me. How you think that makes someone feel? I’m a white male from the south and I don’t have any hate or racism in my heart. Still bothers me though when this happens and yes whether you want to accept it or not…or admit it, there are a fair amount of black people that hate white people. Truth.
See the way I've always seen things we should treat everyone with respect until getting a reason otherwise. I believe we shouldn't let words have any power over us because we can't really dictate what other people do and say. Racism is ignorance In my opinion, we're all just people at the end of the day. We all have hopes and dreams and goals regardless of skin color
Well said bro. All we can really control is our own reaction to a word. I think it also has a lot to do with the age group and part of the country you grew up in.
I’m mixed and I respect your take on this. I’m light caramel, my dad is dark (He looks black) and my mom is kinda dark white (lol she’s mixed with Ojibwe). I think it really depends on the context. Comedy that picks on everyone is the biggest exception IMO. More offensive than the N-word is “African American.” IMO, simply put, because whites aren’t referred to as “European” or “white American”. Give it to me straight. I’m not straight up black, but I’m a little black. I’m definitely not African though. On that note, I’m usually an offender, not the offended. In the end, I’m not really offended by anything, just speaking on what I’d theoretically be offended by if I was to let anyone get that far under my skin. I have had white family members, co workers, “friends” and peers say crazy shit. It’s crazy the amount of “racist” shit I’ve heard by people thinking there isn’t anyone black in the room. Somehow I genetically slipped under their radar. But I ain’t phased, I just see it as an opportunity to educate and love thy neighbor.
There's a delicate line of understanding between people understanding how hurtful and cruel a word can be and not saying that word just because they know other people don't like it. I grew up a white kid in South Dakota. My family immigrated to the US just before the beginning of WWI. Racism and the historical roots of racism in the US always seemed like some weird abstraction or fairy tale to me--something that I knew existed, but it seemed like it died off a long time ago. I didn't REALLY understand how alive and well the prejudice and hatred that still exists in this country is until I spent a few years touring the American South and met some black friends. Just hanging out with them, we'd sometimes hear people scream the N word in our direction (knowing full-well they probably weren't targeting me). I was floored. And looking back on it, I can't believe how myopic my experience was. If I was floored, I can't imagine what my friends' experience was--were they shocked? Appalled? Deadened to it from growing up around it? I didn't really think about it again until years later when I met a Jamaican-American friend while living abroad. I flew into MSP the actual day George Floyd was killed in Minneapolis. That event prompted a conversation between my Jamaican-American friend and I. I remember saying "I can't believe that happened in the Midwest. We don't have the same racial history here as in the South. I thought we were better than that." She replied, "This is a good example of why I prefer to live in the South. Sure, people in the North don't really come off as racist as in the South, but at least in the South, confederate flag-toting racists will be very clear about where the danger is." That was an important lesson that has stuck with me, and it really showed me where my one of my blind spots are. I married a South African woman with whom I have a 3-year-old stepson. We live in Johannesburg. I hesitate to bring them to the US. My family loves them like crazy, but I'm terrified that I don't have the tools to see where the danger is. Sure, there's a lot of racism in South Africa as well, but they've lived there their entire lives. They know where the danger is here. Anyway, I just wanted to communicate that I appreciate your perspective. As someone who has a lot of learning to do, I rely on candid men such as yourself who carries a lot of experiences and perspectives that I need to listen to. People like you make people like me better partners to our wives, better fathers to our children, and better friends, neighbors, and humans to the people in our lives who share different struggles and backgrounds than our own. Thank you. (And side note--the username fits the bill. I've never seen a more fashionable cowboy than yourself).
Love your channel. I’m from South TX and the word gets used both ways by lots of diff kinds of people. Like you said someone using it may not automatically make them a bad person but context is key and the character of the person saying it is even more important than the word itself sometimes. Just a Hispanic man’s point of view. Keep going man! If i was a bit slimmer I’d be taking dressing tips from you! Haha
@Gilbert Villanueva “Spick” is the word your lookin for . My family & I have been called it to our faces by our neighbors. We dont get upset too bad, we know something is wrong with ppl that use racist remarks to try and insult someone.
The way I look at it is "who cares"? There will always be ignorant people that saybit in a derogatory way. There will be friends who use it joking with one another. I agree with the young man. Covering it up does nothing. I hear someone use it as a derogatory term and I'm going to talk to them about it, but then I know what is in their heart.
Words don't hold as much meaning when they're over used. Remember when u were five and u thought the word crap was the worst possible thing to say and now we're out here sayin fuck and shit. Anyways about 6 black people go to my small-town highschool and I got the pleasure of calling at least 4 of them my friends and when I meet someone of color I ask them cuz I'm white and bad at fighting
in the same sense.. what about people who use derogatory names for other races? People like to cry about being called the n word but ignore the fact they were firing off racists comments first.
Even the wise can be wrong from time to time. He was wrong on that. If no one going forget the constitution or “old” things like that… we shouldn’t forget an stop talking about the n word. Black Hawaiian… talk about it, bc living ignorant and letting it slide is never the answer so any subject matter that’s taboo
35 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him Matthew 12:35 God is patient in coming because he wants us to come to repentance!
If one group of ppl can say a word that others cant, division will always exist. I dont even mean saying the word with hate; I mean just saying it in general. Every race should have the ability to say it with the same penalty/lack of penalty in all instances. For instance, your views on ppl saying it with a "GA" should be the same, no matter the skin color. Until we get to that point, there will always be division... the same goes for "ER." They are just words. But, when you give the word such power and only let certain ppl say it, the word becomes a tool that sows division in the core of the ppl. I hope that one day an alien race or God reveals this truth to the masses. Because the masses dont quite understand this concept.
I hate the fact that it’s used as common language every day for black people though. I don’t get it. I’m white. I’m not saying it. The word should’ve never been created.
My friend is black and him I will admit I’ve said it jokingly with the right context, but I never say it to “fit in” or in a way with “power”. Time place and context is important for anything you say. If it’s a word or sentence that offends most people, probably only say it around your mates you know that share your humor , just don’t make it a habit so that it gets into your regular vocabulary, whether white or black. We’re all on the same planet under the same God, we gotta love and respect each other, forget how to hate. Yeehaw from Kansas brother 🙏🏼💯, keep your videos up
As some one of color I hate when anyone uses that word. Heard you use it in one of your videos but I don't judge you for it. You seem like you have a good heart
Bro back when cowboys were in their prime there was tons of black cowboys fresh from the cotton fields, and Hispanics. All that mattered to the cowboy was that they got their cows to their destination safely
All "cowboys" now a days are posers. Everyone everywhere is a poser. "Cultural appropriation" is as retarded as people changing genders. I believe if someone wants to be like someone of another culture, let them be. So many people are worried about cultural appropriation when there are more concerning matters at hand, like transgenderism being push on little kids in schools. They don't even choose their own clothes yet and they're being coerced into changing their genders. We need to start bringing back insane asylums.
Amen to that. I’ve always been told to give second chances unto a certain measure and to always give respect unless theres proven evidence that show otherwise. I just thing the “n word” is over used to much and there’s no need for it. I think I’m my opinion at the end of the day we all have problems and personal things going on that none of us talk about. To me though at then end of the day we are all human and should get along I mean yeah some colors get treated better than others but that doesn’t take away from the fact that you shouldn’t be defined or anything just by color or what is going on in your life. Back to what I was saying though he said it best if you are goin to do it behind closed doors, do it in front of people to, because if you are to “afraid” to say it in public or something then you probably should break that habit and not say it.
