😅 John i tell you what!!first time I heard the story about that fish the (bati) I pull my ear same story regards to Tui and the boys Eliki,Seva and Steph👍.
Hint. Check for flies if it's sitting on the fish and cut brown coconut flesh and cook with fish, keep a look on the coconut flesh if changes colour to purpleish that it's poison if coconut flesh is white that means it's good to eat. You'll never fail with this method.❤❤❤
Dont wory about the fish poison bro you guys will get well again i have come acros many times in life it is a part of journey for a beter future stay forcus.
Have you ever tried smoking fish to preserve it without refrigeration? You can also make fish jerky for later use in cooking. Should be a bit safer to eat out in the bush! Something to look into perhaps? Make sure you stack the wood properly otherwise you are going to have a twisty house! 🤣

I thought Tiri Damu (Mangrove Jack) was ok to eat but thats in Lautoka side. I guess the same fish in different locations could be poisonous.... Would that be correct? Or is it only certain times of the year that its poisonous?
No that’s totally true! Those fish can be poisonous on the Savusavu (Cakaudrove) side of Vanua Levu, but here in Macuata we eat them all year long and never get poisoned ever.
And you have to clean the fish very properly.gills and scrape out blood clots on fish. Esp those red snappers reef fish and many others you think its poisonous
Bati as known by all Fijians is a poisonous fish . Just don’t understand why you still went ahead and ate the fish . Even when he was cutting the fish and when you guys were eating, no sign of flies , that should have been the red flag 🚩.
I don't think its the fish ? I was thinking about the the environment? Could be the water where he is preparing the fish or the cookings .You have to be careful when camping. You take everything don't rely on what's is there .Condemnation these days is very very bad .

Moral of the story - take your trusted 777 tinned fish over fresh fish when you go out camping in the bush for a few days.

That fish looked very unsanitary, and the eggs...yuck. I'm not surprised you got sick. I hope you're all better now.
