I love this adaptation beyond the telling. It's so delicate, and the songs are so quiet, almost incidental. Dinklage's Cyrano is a revelation, wonderfully complex because yes, now there is the visible defect that goes beyond the easy false nose-his stature-while at the same time, the idea of Roxanne loving anyone else is absurd, because Dinklage is so handsome and charismatic whatever his height. I generally hate musicals. My parents were so addicted to watching old '60s musicals to the point I can't stand them anymore. But, if any actor could make me willingly, WILLINGLY, hand over the money to watch a musical in a theater, it'd be Peter Dinklage. And I *will* watch this.

@@efoxkitsune9493 As anything that gives someone character, that should not be... In the end we are all unique and ideally should be appreciated this way.
Well he has a beautiful voice so any change would ruin it. Generally American actors should not attempt British accents. I say this as an American. Keanu Reeves in Dracula Eric Stoltz in Haunted Summer were just cringy.
Why in the world should he speak (English) with a French accent?? French people speak French with one another, not 'English with a French accent'. As this is an Anglophone movie about a story set in France and with purely French characters, English replaces French, i.e. the characters speak an unaccented English.
This is THE BEST version I have Ever Seen!!! An hour later, and I'm still crying!! I was expecting a good show with Peter in it. But this went, far, far higher. This movie broke my heart! I just finished watching this amazing movie. Peter Dinklage and Haley Benette did a wonderful job. It sure made me cry at the end. Excellent performance and great songs too.
I advise you to see first the French adaptation with Gérard Depardieu which is a masterpiece. It uses the verses of the original play by Edmond Rostand, everything is beautiful and transcendent 🌟
I've seen that. It stuck very close to the original story, but the new version seems lovely too. A big nose or a height-challenged man seems to me fitting. Beauty seeks beauty and there's no room for oddities, the tale goes...
@@anwyn9846 Oh, I love Roxanne. The setting, the place they filmed it, is beautiful. The cast includes Daryl Hannah, Shelley Duvall and Michael J. Pollard. It's a piece of fluff compared to the real Cyrano, but sometimes we all need that.
Absolutely! But also read the play, cause once you do, you won't settle for less than Cyrano's witty poetry and love language! (Ngl I was EAGERLY waiting for the "c'est un peu court, jeune homme" tirade because come on, it's iconic and also even more fitting than the original one since he's actually short... We need Peter Dinklage to be our sarcastic king one more time plz)
This is one of my favorite trailers of all time. Honestly, the movie fell flat for me, but I still come back just to watch this trailer. It really inspires me.
That's... bold... I'm curious and yet very anxious. Rostand gave life to his characters through his words and even though I've seen a couple of good versions adapted in English, I can't really picture Cyrano without the words of Rostand. Plus, I know it's only a trailer, but here all I see is a love story, whereas the original text was so much more.
it's Cyrano for Disney fans. (sigh) Even though Dinklage could carry every single bit of Rostand's gorgeous dialogue with one hand tied behind his back.
I feel similarly. I hope the script remains more faithful than what the trail has shown. This Cyrano seems a bit soft compared to the wit and easily raised ire of Rostand’s Cyrano. I’m not excited for the musical numbers, but hopefully they’ll stay brief enough to not interfere
@@someonerandom8552 There isn’t a translation that does justice to Rostand’s text really. Try to watch the French movie with English subtitles - that’s the closest you’ll get from understanding the play yet hearing the musicality of the verses.

Seriously, I am absolutely crying buckets just from that minute & change!!! It looks so lovely & I can't think of anyone more gallant & fabulous to be Cyrano!!! Thank You!!
1:15-1:24 I think we can all resonate here. The emotion on Peter's face is that of a man who has just come to the realisation that the woman he loves (his friend) does not love him back. Instead she confides in him her love for a different man, unintentionally causing him a great deal of pain and heartache. I know because i have felt this pain before.
That's how I feel about Atonement. Joe Wright's track record isn't perfect. Like, I didn't love Hanna. But I still walked out thinking, "The man made Atonement. Lifetime pass."
I saw the play at the Goodspeed’s Terris Theater in CT a few years ago. How thrilling to be just a few feet away from this extraordinary actor!!!
Same. I detest musicals but for Peter Dinklage…
I was the same until I watched Phantom of the Opera and Into the Woods 😅 now I’m obsessed with them
WHOLLY AGREED, lol. Show me anything with Peter Dinklage and I'll be inclined to give it a chance cause he's freaking great.
"His name is Christian"
Cyrano: (trying to think of a way to get Roxanne's attention)
*I demand a trial by combat!*
All jokes aside, Peter is absolutely lovely and so glad to see him in lead roles that showcase his talent!
Eyyyy I'm the 69th like.
Ok I need to grow up...but after this like.
It's not fair. We will all want to be his champions in the trial
This movie really left my heart hurting. It's like opening a serious wound.
I still can't believe Kelvin Harrison Jr is in this. He's such a talented actor and I swear I hadn't expected to see him in the trailer.
Cyrano de Bergerac is my favorite play. Have to say I'm slightly disappointed that Peter doesn't have an outrageous nose :(
Agreed.
Exactly! The nose is an important detail in the play.
@@oliviarogers3559 This is a different version of the story. In this version, Cyrano isn’t self conscious about his nose, he’s self conscious about his height. It’s a change from the original story but I think it still works.
@@sweeney60 I honestly think it works much better. Like a big nose can be a big source of insecurity for sure, but it just doesn't... seem like such a big deal...? Pardon me if that's insensitive. I feel like in this version, it could be a much more significant and realistic obstacle.
@@efoxkitsune9493 As anything that gives someone character, that should not be...
In the end we are all unique and ideally should be appreciated this way.
Yes, please!!! He is such a prolific actor. Give us more of Peter. He’s amazing.
Love how he doesn't even try for an accent. Seriously, Dinklage with a French accent just wouldn't work.
No, it could. But it would be more effort than worth it.
@@Call-me-Al I agree.
He actually did a French accent in the movie where he played Herve Villechance.
I’m so obsessed with the idea of this film. So excited to see it.
Loved this movie!! Me and my boyfriend were both sobbing by the end - definitely bring tissues
(SPOILERS) I wanted a happy ending though! That ending was too sad. I wanted them to be together. :(
@@LorianandLothric sadly the happy ending didn’t come 😭😭😭 I cried when Christian died…
@@RiverMLP what? She didn't even love Christian.
@@RiverMLP and when cyrano died
@@sebastiantafoya3609 Ik but it was so sad because he was one of my favorites and she did love Christian (at one point)
This is THE BEST version I have Ever Seen!!! An hour later, and I'm still crying!! I was expecting a good show with Peter in it. But this went, far, far higher. This movie broke my heart! He wasn't supposed to die! And she wasn't supposed to love and lose, again! His dying song/breathe causes fresh tears all over again. Thank you for this instant classic! God bless you all ❤💔💔
I just finished watching this amazing movie.
I absolutely agree with you! I love that movie and I love that book.
Yes! I prefer the French adaptation to the Steve Martin film Roxanne. Very beautiful film. This looks charming and I really like Peter Dinklage.
IM SO EXCITED. We read this play in middle school and I was OBSESSED, I read it like 6 times. Peter Dinklage is absolutely perfect for this role
That's...
Same, cannot understand this movie
it's Cyrano for Disney fans. (sigh) Even though Dinklage could carry every single bit of Rostand's gorgeous dialogue with one hand tied behind his back.
Okay this has convinced me to pick up the novel? Play? Any good English translations?
I feel similarly. I hope the script remains more faithful than what the trail has shown. This Cyrano seems a bit soft compared to the wit and easily raised ire of Rostand’s Cyrano. I’m not excited for the musical numbers, but hopefully they’ll stay brief enough to not interfere
@@someonerandom8552 There isn’t a translation that does justice to Rostand’s text really. Try to watch the French movie with English subtitles - that’s the closest you’ll get from understanding the play yet hearing the musicality of the verses.
Children need love, adults need money. LOL THE ACCURACY!!!

Omg the split second of pain! I started to tear up.
He is such a great actor.
Oh, I just love this movie. So romantic. I was not expecting that ending.
It was a pretty sad ending.
I need more and more movies or tv shows or anything with Peter Dinklage. He is so amazing. Cant wait for this movie.
Saw this last night. This movie was exquisite. Loved everything about it. The music! The costumes! The setting! The acting! All of them fantastic! Especially loved Haley Bennet. So well done. Academy awards on movie and actors. OMG! Still humming the music.
As much as I like Peter Dinklage, Gérard Depardieu will always be my favourite Cyrano.
"My fate is to love her from afar ". Ahh my heart 💔 I must and will see this movie
This is one powerful romantic musical movie! That balcony scene for the "overcome" track, so perfect!
Good to see Dinklage in a leading role. Love how the actors are using their natural accents. Reminds me of the movie Amadeus.
This was such a beautiful movie, everyone go see it now !!! Every actor is so good Petet is outstanding of course, the songs are great the dialogue witty and the ending is heart wrenching
It leaked online. Will watch it.
Only Peter Dinklidge could make me cry from a trailer
well .. then check out Gerard Depardieux in the same role .. but just MUCH better.
@@SocialNetwooky so you've seen this film???🤔
@@SocialNetwooky you didn't answer the question
@@SocialNetwooky "our" stuff? You're not even french
@@solosam9 lol...actually : je le suis.
I always love how Peter Dinklage sounds when he speaks ❤️
I grew up with Peter when I was a kid. Saw him in "Oliver" when he was in middle school. Even then he had the bug. So happy that he has become so successful.
Another musical movie for this year! This trailer really makes me cry, I can feel him as a lead actor!
Saw this in the theater. Dinklage is excellent and a fitting role.
Are you a movie critic?
Seriously, I am absolutely crying buckets just from that minute & change!!! It looks so lovely & I can't think of anyone more gallant & fabulous to be Cyrano!!! Thank You!!
Every word from Dinklage is packed with emotion! The investment this man has in his work is astounding!!! Can't wait to watch this!
I had no idea It was going to be a musical but now i want to see it even more then before
Peter D is such a good actor
Growing up I absolutely loved Roxane, which is another interpretation of the Cyrano story. I'll most likely love this one even more ❤
I can't wait!! I adore Peter and I'm stoked to see him in a lead.
Amazing music amazing movie ❤️🎹
For pride & prejudice alone, i owe joe wright a lifetime of gratitude. I hope he keeps making movies for as long as possible.
That's how I feel about Atonement. Joe Wright's track record isn't perfect. Like, I didn't love Hanna. But I still walked out thinking, "The man made Atonement. Lifetime pass."
So much respect for Peter Dinklage and the roles he’s chosen.
I saw the play at the Goodspeed’s Terris Theater in CT a few years ago. How thrilling to be just a few feet away from this extraordinary actor!!! It was beautiful and wonderful and (obviously) so well acted. The entire cast was exceptional and some are in the movie. Mr Dinklage’s wife, Erica Schmidt, wrote this adaptation. The music is very fine as well. I’ve been waiting for the movie version! Can’t wait!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful movie, I saw this tonight in Kent Ohio to find out again the actress who played Roxanne's grandma and other family members were in our row! We got the pleasure to talk to grandma after the movie and my fiance got to walk her to her car
Is there any role Peter Dinklage can"t do? Dude is one of my favorite actors. What a force! 👍
It’s like the absolute perfect role for him. It’s like it was written for him. A timeless story he will win a Oscar for sure!!!
Such a great actor. I' m very glad he's been chosen. And such a beautiful voice!!⚘
I've only ever seen Roxanne with Steve Martin. I've considered watching a serious version of Cyrano before but now it's a must. Not sure how I feel about the musical aspect, but seeing Peter Dinklage in the lead role is more than worth it.
Watch the 1990 French film with Depardieu. Best cinematic version ever made by far.
I saw this in theaters and I just cannot wait to go see it again. Magic!!!
The perfect role for Peter. Changing Cyrano into a dwarf instead of just a man with a long nose is brilliant.
I agree!
“My sole purpose on this Earth, is to love Roxanne”
That hits so hard
This film looks so beautiful and inspiring, can’t wait to see it. Peter Dinklage is an amazing and beloved actor. Hope to see him in many more films and series. Bravo Peter!
I absolutely LOVED this film. It was beautiful and tragic. But more beautiful than tragic ❤️🔥
I live a few kms from Bergerac and here I will quote Cyrano himself in scene VII:
Cyrano, (hors de lui) à Le Bret
-Maintenant...
mais je vais être frénétique et fulminant!
Il me faut une armée entière à déconfire!
J'ai dix cœurs ; j'ai vingt bras ; il ne peut me suffire
De pourfendre des nains...
ooh the irony !!!
The song after he wrote his first letter was beautiful. I think it's called "Every Letter". WHEW! Great movie.
Peter Dinklage is just so adorable. ❤️
Que trailer lindo! 😍
Está bien nitido.
Man, I am so excited for this. As a writer and lover of words, to me this is truly the greatest love story of all time. I can't wait to see Dinklage play an unbelievable Cyrano! He deserves more lead roles.
Please, "As a writer and lover of words" can you give me your feedback on how it compares to the original work ?
The movie I didn’t know I needed but now I demand
Peter Dinkle is such an amazing Actor.
This movie has the most beautiful songs I have heard in a movie in a long while. 🙏✨️
