@@HuckOutdoors that would be fantastic, I have my son all my gear and tackle a few years back, went to tenkara, now I'm thinking about getting backpacking spin outfit.
Ive had fished there a few years back..There's a small creek that branches our from the Santa Ana river, all wild rainbows, salmon eggs and nightcrawlers work great!
Nice... I've fished, or tried to fish that river a few times before but the water level was way down. 4 inches or less in most places. This is the most water I've seen in that river in a long time. Thanks for using barbless lures... More fish and bigger fish for next year.
This is the lowest I have seen it in years. A lot of the deeper pools are filling up with sediment. We need a good winter run off to make some holes deeper again.
Enjoyed this, thank you. Native to SoCal but haven't fished these areas much, do more eastern Sierra than here. Urban Outdoorsman and yourself put out some of the best, IMPO of course, videos for good general info in SoCal fishing. I also appreciate how you demonstrate handling of your catches and release. I see so many that are either greedy or ignorant to helping the sport for all. Thanks
Thanks for the kind words! There is a lot of good untapped fishing in SoCal. Andrew and I really like to see others succeed and catch more fish. If it wasn't for fisherman who helped me when I was younger, who knows where I would be in the sport.
Great video. Haven't been to the south fork for a few years now but its still one of my favorite fishing places. It always was kind of hidden. The first fish I caught there was an 8 inch brown, I was surprised as I had no idea there were browns in the stream. Caught many browns n bows there since. Love that place! Thanks for posting.
I've been fishing that river since I was a kid. We were fishing the lower portion one year and it started snowing. My dad went back to the car and my mom and I kept on fishing.
Drive by there all the time going to BB will have to stop since BB lake looks pretty sick these days ,great job as usual Jason waiting for the shirt to arrive take care and fish on
I've been going up there for a little fishing at jenks and the santa ana river but i've been having trouble at santa ana river. I was wondering if you could give me some tips and tricks or where you usually get bites because I have not gotten any and I haven't really found any deeper pools that would seem like there are fish in.
The Santa Ana River has not been stocked in a while to find fish you are probably going to need to either hike up from the last bridge along the highway, or down from the last bridge on glass road.
Huck Outdoors so when you hike upstream and you start at the end of the road there is private property signs. Are we allowed to be on the river and just not go off the river or is it everything in that area.
Have you tried fly fishing the river? I think a 2wt and a bead headed nymph would lead to way more hookups. On streams like that you're high sticking and don't even need to worry about casting that much. BTW, have you hiked the Mineral King loop yet? I did it 2 weeks ago and couldn't believe the trout I was catching out of Little Five Lakes. Every rainbow was 16"s plus and super chunky.
I seen a guy fly fishing it. Never thought about high sticking, but that would be a great idea. Maybe i need to invest in a smaller 2 wt outfit! As far as Mineral King, we backpacked into Eagle Lake last year. It was a blast! So many brook trout up there! I'll have to check out the Little Five Lakes.
You could always try a Tenkara setup too. However, that's just high sticking without a reel to me! I'd rather have the ability to reach out and get to where the fish are if needed. I'd suggest 5 days for the Mineral King Loop. We did it in 4 days and it wasn't enough time to enjoy the fishing. You have two 11,000 feet+ passes that you have to climb to get in and out of the area. We did it clockwise (best way IMHO) and the first climb is up Black Rock Pass. You're already at altitude so the climb out via Sawtooth Pass isn't as tough. The loose DG on the backside is a nightmare though. You're basically skiing down pellet sized gravel hoping you get your feet up before your ankle gets smashed by a loose boulder; fun times!
Thanks for sharing. Is this a lot of water or little water for the area that time of year. I'm looking to head out there, and I'm wondering if now late Spring/early Summer 2020 will be any good.
I fished the Santa Ana river over 20 years ago, I went down a old fire trail which brought me to the river, then I walked along the river to a small dam and caught wild browns under 12inches all day, using 2 pound test and barbless hooks. I was the only one down there and I had to use a old topography map to find that trail. It was the wild section and the bait that I was using was what would find under rocks or crawling around.
Huck Outdoors. Yes it was an awesome experience of course I was younger then but that area was very secluded, what I had read was that area was stocked with Browns by DFG by backpack holding tanks a long time ago, as you know native trout are very skittish so you would have to walk upstream and just let the current take your bait, just catching and releasing was so satisfying and the color on those Browns was beautiful. Good Luck if you ever find that trail down to the Santa Ana River ( Stream )😉
I used to fish the Santa Ana RIver as a kid below the last bridge, We would walk down a mile or two then back up. SO much good memories from back then.
Cool Video. Gotta check that out my self. Love to catch trout on the light tackle 👌 I was checking your PVR video in Bishop. You guys killed it! I've always done well there.. its actually one of my two favorite spots up in that area. Anyways love the info and the vids ever since my uncle put me on to your channel. Blessings! Pura Vida 🤙🤙🤙
How far did you hike the Santa Anna River while you fished it? It’s been a few years since my son and I fished down there. We last fished where the dirt road meets the bridge. Watching this gives me an idea of hiking and fishing a large section of the creek. My son would love that.
I was actually just driving to most of the drive up spots this time. Where the dirt road meets the bridge I need to hike down a lot further. So many good pools there.
Huck Outdoors That’s what we decided to do this Saturday. Just not sure if we’re going to start from the dirt road that meets the bridge or further up. Just hike and fish.
I had 2 fish hit my line all day opposite ends of the River. First one was below the bridge where the dirt meets the pavement on Middle Control Rd and second was way up in the boondocks near a camp off Glass Rd. What areas do you recommend? Any spots near the campers? I used a small white jig
Hey I really enjoy all of your videos. I especially like the Santa Ana River stream fishing one. I would love the opportunity to fish at that location if I only knew exactly where it is?
All these locations got washed out by the valentine days flood. You can start off of glass rd by seven oaks and work your way up and down. Should be lots of new pools now.
Hey Love this video! I would like to fish at a place like this! I live in the San Fernando valley and I would appreciate it if I could get some details on how to get to this great fishing spot!! Thank you in advance
You turn off on Glass Road and when you get to the bottom you can go left or right. I started to the left and passed Seven Oaks resort and went to where the pavement ends, which is the last bridge. Then I worked my way up from there.
Yes that is a great rod for sure
Have 2 like that one still!
@@HuckOutdoors they weren’t out for very long and I can’t find them anymore.
Let's go fishing
Where?
Good job Man
Thanks!
Fun times with huck. Great vid brutha!
Thanks for watching Gilbert!
Your very welcome and thank you for your vids. Seriously, gonna hook up with you someday and pick the shit out of your brain!!!!
Very cool that you packed someone else's trash out, I was hoping you would show us your gear. Real nice, extra point for barbless. Thumbs up.

So how about now!!!

Hey Jason! What kind of mini jigs were you using for these streams?
Sierra Slammers and the 1/64 were most likely some older trout traps
@@HuckOutdoors Thanks man, I’ll check those out.
Great video Huck. Love the simple small spin outfit. It’s what I use most on the smaller east coast streams.
I need to head out with a smaller tackle bag next time.
LOL...Yeah. Few of your favorite jigs and spinners in a small plastic case that fits in my back pocket.
Do you have to use barbless hooks?
No, but it makes it easier to release.
Cool I heard there's some places there to pan for gold as well
Maybe, not too much gold mining history back there.
Very cool!
Thanks!
Keep it up! Great Vid!

Not sure if it is in that area. Maybe for modern coins.

Hey my man! Great Video! I fish around Yorba Regional, on the trail and just a half mile past it, do you think they come out this far?
Probably no trout down that far with all the dams in the way.
Negative. Brown trout definitely a no. Also barbed hooks are prohibited up here as well. Gotta be artificial baits and barb-LESS hooks.
