You should be able to connect 3 separate monitors through three video ports ( 2 DP and 1 HDMI)

I just ordered this dock today, universal edition, to use with my personal and work laptops that will be outputting to a KVM switch to share with my desktop.

@@retropcdurham Just to follow up this dock exhibited some strange behavior with my two laptops. On my HP Elitebook 845 G7 work laptop it would only drive one monitor at its native 1440p at 59hz and dropped the 2nd one to 1080p at 30hz. The it blocked me moving open windows around so I finally had enough and back it went. If I plug directly into both units I get native resolution at 144hz. I suppose that I'll just keep looking and if anybody every makes a KVM switch with docking capability I'll take a hard look at it.

@@puffnstuff12 Weird, do you know what generation of Thunderbolt ports you have on your laptops? I still have intermittent issues with the dock disconnecting displays or having one display turn grey if I try to stream Disney+ on it.

Do you have issues with the Thunderbolt ports on your P1 Gen 4?
I have the Lenovo ThinkVision P40w-20 monitor (Thunderbolt 4) although when I connect it to the my P1 G4 (A4000) it doesn't recognise it as a display - only a hub. Ended up using USB-C > DP 1.4 cable to get video at 5k 75Hz, oddly it works perfect on my P1 G3 (A2000). Tempted to buy the dock but worried it won't work properly.
Even had the motherboard replaced and it didn't fix it. Motherboard failed during a Firmware update gone wrong.

Hi, congratulations for the video, i got one today too, one question, I cannot read it from the label of your video. Do you know the max input reported on your label? Mine says 6.35a and i’m in doubt if i can use a 230w on it..
    Thank you in advance

What were the issues you were having with the old dock? I got an old Lenovo ThinkPad Hybrid USB-C with USB-A Dock back in 2020 to use with my ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 2 and had issues where the dock would just electronically disconnect (physically still connected) when connected to one of the Thunderbolt 3 ports. This only happened with a TB3 port too and only seemed to be an issue on my X1E2.

My ThinkPad USB 3.0 Pro Dock would constantly crash when plugged into my newer ThinkPads. It worked fine with my P71 and L13Y. I think it was probably a firmware issue with DisplayLink support compatibility with newer systems. So far the new dock has had zero issues so I should be good for hopefully the next few generations.

I had to do a fair bit of troubleshooting with drivers on both my P1 and my T14s to get it to work properly with both, and I still get weird glitches with the HDMI port.

Will this work with a Thinkstation desktop? I didn't see it on the compatibility list. I'd like to be able to switch between my T16 and my desktop with just one usb-c cable instead of unplugging 3 monitors all the time

The other thing that you will want to confirm is how your ThinkStation handles video passthru to USB. I had an old S30 which was gen 1 USB3.0 and it didn't pass thru any graphics from the GPU at all.

I have two of these Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 4 docks. It did not come with the big cable only... a Thunderbolt 4 cable. The light turns orange when I plug it in. But it does not register anything. It is really odd. Any thoughts. do I need special Driver. The ASUS ProArt StudioBook has two Thunderbolt 4 ports... but neither seem to work with this silly Lenovo Dock.

Im not surprised. I have this laptop and purchased a ThinkPad USB-C Gen 2 dock 90W and no luck even if I plug in a 230W into the dock. Seems this thinkbook model has issues. My only thought is that the power delivered via the yellow power connector is below 230W? Or somehow because its an AMD processor things dont work with Thunderbolt connector? Im very frustrated with this and now need to always take out my 2nd power supply (one for dock one for laptop) to get things to work. Lenovo support was also unable to solve this for me.

When comparing to traditional mechanical docks it totally lines up, 3-4 generations of compatibility.
But I agree that if it's USB, it should maintain backwards compatibility forever, right? The old dock still worked fine for USB devices, but the monitor and ethernet controlled by the DisplayLink firmware just doesn't work properly.
