Started guitar later in my life, I think I was 19, but I remember when I was just trying so hard to get onto the scene I got let go from a band for being too "studious."....LOL. This is kinda related but not really, so in high school I had a kid audition to be our rhythm guitarist who literally could not play. Like he couldn't even hold the guitar properly or play any single notes. Was a shocking waste of our time and his and I just don't understand people and their motivations lol.
For better or worse I play and sing solo for the last 25 years or so. So, I am not in danger of getting fired, no matter how i play, or dress, or whatever, unless I fire myself lol
In all fairness I think number 12 kinda depends on the setting. I only play blues because I am a blues guitarist, and I know that when I go looking for a band, I'll be looking for a blues band rather than a multi-style band.
There's never too much distortion, I welcome it as someone that likes pushing my stuff until it sounds like it's coming through a potato from the Irish potato famine
