    Yeah I agree - adding an onboard transmitter system to their mixers would help the tech take off, and definitely make a receiver pack, enabling people to use IEMs.

    I bought the AIAIAI over a year ago and I love DJ'ing with wireless cans. Would never go back for gigs. On RARE occasion I've come up against their volume limit, but I get it. I also use the AIAIAI for casual listening around the house here and there-they're excellent for a meditation! I play drums and I've used them for practicing along to a song as well as playing to a click in rehearsal. In fact, I think having a cable is even more of a bother in the drumming use case than for DJing.

    I've been DJing wirelessly for years, since around 2016 IIRC. I was using an FM stereo transmitter and a pocket FM radio as the receiver. Zero latency, but just a slight audio hiss and occasional static when I walked too far away. Then I found an ultra low latency 2.4Ghz stereo transmitter/receiver set for less than 50 bucks, and I love it. Excellent audio quality, no hiss or static, and ultra low latency as advertised.

I recorded it on audacity, one channel directly wired to my computer and the other channel wired to the wireless receiver, you can see a teeny bit of latency on the start of the waveform. 13:50 100% I got the AIAIAI Wireless Studio as soon as they were available for pre-order. Great at home, but not loud enough for DJing. And they’ve remained in the box since. But I immediately made the comment to AIAIAI that they should make a higher powered beltpack receiver for use with any headphones and more particularly for those wishing to use IEMs. I have a Sennheiser IEM kit, and I love the freedom, but it’s bulky. AlphaTheta really need to take note and develop this now, because if they do I think they’ll really own that part of the market if they get their first. Like you I’d order it immediately. But would also prefer faster charge times too. Nice review 👏🏻

    • @MossRcIntosh
      @MossRcIntosh Місяць тому

      As an addition to fast charge, they should also look at a hard shell charging case to aid DJs in their prep. They get charged when you put them away, and you charge the case while you’re at your gig. Seems obvious really.

    I'm pretty happy to see this come to market.
    I've been using Dellinger Labs' Streetheart receiver with their Dani transmitter for the same thing but with my headphones of choice instead.
    Sure, the Skaa Pro packs are bigger and they have an antenna sticking out but they're also battery powered and the latency is 19 ms in Pro mode.
    Of course, that latency is also noticeable depending on what you're paying attention to, but I found it to be actually mostly equal to the latency I get with the monitors on stage and even the mains (which are often even more delayed).
    If Skaa could make a mode that's even faster than 19 ms, they'd have a lot of potential I think considering how the tech has been open for collabs with other manufacturers.

    Ive used razer gaming headphones (2.4ghz, not the bluetooth type), with an asio driver going down up to 96 ms latency and they are "ok" for mixing , but for scratching, better with cable. Ive used rf headphones and they work very good in terms of latency. Ill stick to the technics rp or the hd25. Now im using a vestax hmx-07 and they are ok (they were cheap and they are very flexible with detachable cable). I like on ear headphones. Those wireless means charging, carring the receiver and cables. Better to keep it simple, at the end cables doesnt bother too much.

I have owned Sennheiser HD-25's prior, and I now own the Audio-Technia ATH-M50x's, and they are every bit as good sounding, comfortable and last as long when compared the HD-25's. All in, about $200 for the transmitter / reciever combo and I can use my nice IEMs to protect my hearing rather than overears. 19ms latency, so more than this, but still pretty hard to notice. And you can add another reciever if you want for B2B sets (the transmitters can transmit to two recievers).

    If this catches on, the one thing that is concerning is if someone in the audience runs a jamming device to fuck with the DJ. Those devices can be relatively small (think power bank size) based on what's been put out at defcon, so it's real possibility of someone sneaking those into festival grounds.
    Honestly, where milliseconds matter, I'll stick with wired especially when there's just so many new factors that comes in to play aside from security concerns especially since festivals can be very wet and humid environments, even clubs.

    This is cool- but still needs alot of work imho. With the main reasons being
    1) The latency wouldnt be suitable for turntabllists
    2) The link would need to be open source. Pioneer cant and wont ever have a monopoly on DJ headphones. If anyone could, it would be our old mate senny
    3) you aint supposed to run em while plugged in.. I really want a word with whoever came up with that spectacle! Im not saying scrap the wireless bit, but I dont want yet another device to have to worry about charging!
    I honestly dont mind having an extra box, less stuff which could potentially interfere with the signal chain internally on the mixer- what really gets me worked up is the lack of ear protecting headphones!!
    I've used the Vic Firth ones, and again was really disappointed. Even wired theres faults with theirs too. I play drums and you can imagine the disappointment when, after years of playing a renoundly loud instrument- got tinnitus from mixing vinyl on loud PA systems. I've thought for so long this is such a basic gap in the market nobodys tapped into.
    Valiant effort though none the less. Intrested to see how many people make the switch now its got that pioneer treatment!
    Fast charging would be a nice addition too. Belter review as always mojaxx. Thanks for giving it to us straight. Like a pear cider.

    i have tried wireless and the results have not been good .So far a wire directly into the mixer can not be beaten and even if you can get ones that work in your home set up it might not do do well on the road with all the various signals and interference you might get a festival or a busy club.There is a reason dj headphones have not changed much and that is because they just work and do the job that people buy them for.If these or others can make wireless work then it will be nice not to get tangled or pull at the mixer because the wire is too short.So time will tell.

  • @DJSwitchPDX

    I'll bet $5 USD that the 2.4 transmitter on these will render the Phase completely inoperable. Similarly, I wonder if the Wi-Fi on older MBPs will disrupt these so you end up having to plug in anyway.
    There's absolutely no reason not to make devices like these 5 ghz instead of 2.4 so we can take advantage of the diversity and use more than one wireless device in our setups.
    My X10s are falling apart, but if they sound the same and the wireless is still 2.4, I might as well save the cash and get another pair of X10s.

      @vjdpred 2 місяці тому +3

      Actually, it's €620 for the AlphaTheta ( + HD25), because you can't just buy Pioneer without a properly built backup device. And you'll definitely need a backup headphone with this, because just like any other plastic Pioneer headphones, they'll be useless when they suddenly break (and be sure - they will brake).

    I don't really get the use case for these? just seems like more stuff to go wrong/stress over... i guess if you're one of 'those' DJs who prance around the stage throwing cakes etc they might be useful, but most guys stood behind the decks are just swaying along and mixing.
    Ive been DJing for around 25yrs, the first 11 i had around 4/5 sets of Sony and Pioneer headphones, the last 14 ive been using a single pair of HD-25s, still going strong (with new ear pads). Do yourselves a favour and buy a springy chord for the HD-25s, then you can move around without pulling it out and save yourself 350 quid.

    9 ms for monitoring is unacceptable, audible and unnecessary. Shure PSM300 in ear monitoring system has 0,5 ms and has been on the market for ages. Can't see why A/T could not do better at this.

    I was interested but 9ms is far too long of a delay. Hard pass. Music will simply not match with your foldback monitors you will have to account for the delay. Very useful for headphone mixing though.

    But the big question still is .. WHY .. Why would u spent 400 euro if you already have a good set? If you are a DJ you won't be running around the place , so a 2-3 m cable is fine and if that cable really bothers you that much, well.. play hardstyle. Those Dj's never seem to use headphones anyway ..;)

  • @kidsonicofficial
    @kidsonicofficial Місяць тому

    The only reason HD25s are so popular is because they're built like brick shithouses, plus they're user replaceable down to the drivers. That's something that a lot of manufacturers lack. I know AIAIAI have tried, but they've missed the mark in terms of sound quality from what I've heard from friends. Until someone creates a pair of headphones that stand up to the HD25 in terms of durability and longevity in terms of user replaceable parts (which let's be honest, is a godsend when most companies are anti-right to repair), then I know a lot of DJs will be sticking to the HD25s.
