While it isn't entirely necessary, I would recommend reading at least First Strike. If you don't feel like reading the whole thing now, or can't buy the book for whatever reason, check out Halopedia. They have summaries of all the books released so far. And it was not a waste of time at all. It is my pleasure to help out fellow Halo fans :)
@Clyde Marshall: "If you are so inclined would anyone tell me why they like to keep their collector's items in mint condition?" It can be hard to explain, for me at least. @Clyde Marshall: Probably because it was the first discovered. However, it seems to be a common thing for characters to refer to a single ring as Halo. In Halo 3, the Chief asks Miranda "What about Halo?", referring to Delta Halo. The Greek letter designations for the Halo rings signify the order they fire in when activated. Installation 04, Alpha Halo, fires first, followed by Beta Halo, Gamma Halo, Delta Halo, and so on. I think Installation 04 is first because it's Monitored by 343 Guilty Spark, and thus holds some significance for the IsoDidact. That's just my speculation, though.
Both versions have the same amount of content. The differences are in grammar and certain dates. The original 2010 books were supposed to fix certain errors in the first 3 Halo books (dates, the number of active S-IIs, grammar, etc), but were themselves full of errors. The 2011 "Definitive" editions make all the necessary fixes
Many thanks! Ebay is golden source for things you may have missed out on. I got Halo 2's Limited Edition there for $15 a few years back. Same with most of the Halo Consoles.
..and I thought my collection was big. I still have every edition of each game that ever came out and all the novel and comic collections plus many others, but you got everything. I admire the effort :)
The things I would do for that Master Chief statue... Holy shit. You've got some things I didn't even know existed! Right now I'm collecting the soundtracks. I just love listening to the music. I want to start reading the books too, so I'm glad I found out from watching this there's an updated version of the Fall of Reach and the other two books that come after it. Halo is the only video game I've played that dragged me into the story. Awesome collection! I hate B&N too by the way. Paid extra money for 3 day shipping only to get my books 3 weeks later in battle damaged condition lol.
Wow amazing, I would probably have the same collection if I just had the money. My favorite franchise of all time, oh and btw Halo escalation issue 9 sneak peek was released. I would check it out if I were you, it has one huge plot twist!
Awesome collection, I played all the Halo games but only got really interested in the lore when I read Cryptum. You should do an Update video on your collection if it's grown since this which no doubt it has.
Bro seeing that old halo 3 controller with the warthog and chief on it hit me with the nostalgia feels cause I used to have one of those and I lost it during a move from one house to another.
Nice collection mate, I just started mine up recently. I will probably do a video after I get the Halo 4 sculpture that is coming out 6 December from Mcfarlane. But I have a decent one, more action figures. I love the books though.
So, two years after talking to you about it in the comments, I finally made my collection video Toa Freak, haha I gave you a shout out at the end since you were the reason I made the video.
Impressive. Not as thorough or extensive as my collection, but I'm envious of that Halo 2 LE Xbox. I am still missing that piece. I'm also missing the Halo: CE Making of disc, but I honestly didn't even know it existed. I may have to go look for that.
Your collection rivals mine - I'm impressed. I'm missing several issues of Escalation (I fill in those gaps by watching your videos of them, btw), the Halo Graphic Novel which I can't find anywhere, and I don't have the last 2 books by Karen Traviss. Other than that, I've all the games including PC and CE(custom edition). I mean, I don't have that new one that just came out, that Halo Online, but meh - that doesn't count.
And I expect this to be way bigger in the present day. Also way bigger than my personal collection, which is just the novels and some comics and little or no doodads like special edition posters and DVD covers.
Are the halo books like Fall of reach, first strike, the flood, ghosts of onyx, contact harvest and the Cole protocol graphic novels? I know they are books but do all of them have graphic novel and comic adaptions?
Halo Canon, why do we tend to refer to Installation 04 as Halo singular even after we know it to be part of a seven ring array? In Nightfall especially it would seem to make more sense if they actually called it either by its number or designation as Alpha Halo. Which leads me to another question. Why is the fourth installation designated Alpha Halo?
Hey. I have a quick question. Does the version of Halo: The Flood that you have have those extra pages at the end or is that just the smaller definitive edition version of the book?
I used to have a statue that I bought whilst I lived in the U.K of John running and holding dual magnums, any idea if they are valuable anymore or if they are sold still? My mum got rid of it before I was a true Halo nerd, sorta pissed off as it would've made an awesome contribution for my collection. But anyway, you and HaloFollower turned me in to a Halo nerd and I'm thankful ;) Awesome collection btw
Hey dude I'm a long time halo fan in the last 4 years my interest in the lore has grown. I've only the read Glasslands and Thursday war and I own Ghost of Onyx. I want to know should I read any other novels or lore content before going into onyx ? I'm sorry if this is a waste off time but you seem like the guy to ask.
I still need to get the Books after Halo: Mortal Dictata and Halo: Silentium. Been quite a while but I still need to finish Cole Protocol about Jacob Keyes early Life. 😮
As I am young and unemployed I have not really collected anything and so I probably won't understand until I do, but as of this moment I kind of feel that the best way to show love for your collection is to use it and play with it. Some of those pieces you have no intention of selling so I don't understand why you would leave them alone. As I said, I have not been able to collect yet and so I probably won't understand until I do. If you are so inclined would anyone tell me why they like to keep their collector's items in mint condition?
Halo Canon, are you by any chance a Bionicle fan? I ask because you also go by Toa Freak. Also if Preston Cole is your number one favorite Halo character, who is your runner up?
Yeah, now i am sad because 1. This stuff is even more rare in germany and 2. I "just" started earning real amounts of money so i could afford all that stuff But i am happy with my 4,5 and mcc limited edition i guess lol
Do you happen to be selling the Making Of thing you showed first? I understand if you aren't because collecting is a serious thing. However, if you are, how much for it?
This..... Is REALLY impressive dude lol. My collection isn't very impressive xD. All i have is pretty much all the limited edition copies along with halo 3 and reach legendary editions and a halo 4 console. Thats my halo game collection and then i only have 4 halo books.
I just started Halo ever since I played Halo Infinite online. Because of that, it has me playing the entire Halo saga. Can someone tell me in chronological the books I need to read understand the Halo universe more? I know in chronological order the games, I just need to know the order of the books
It honestly depends on what you want from the universe. A good starting place is always "Halo: The Fall of Reach". This was written back in 2001 to advertise the then-upcoming Halo CE. As such, it remains a great foundational text for the series. If you want a broader, more general catch-up on the lire, 2016's "Halo Mythos" covers the entire scope of lore from the Precursors to the doorstep of Halo Wars 2. Here's a full list of books in release and chronological order: www.reddit.com/r/halo/wiki/literature/ I also made a video diving into the ways you can approach the books and expanded universe in general (which essentially boils down to: "read whatever interests you"). ua-cam.com/video/EVmPpqXcNI0/v-deo.html

KirbyGaming I personally prefer hardcover whenever you can get them. As far as I'm aware, though, only the Forerunner Saga and Kilo-5 books were ever printed in Hard Cover.

if a halo fan robbed your house they would completely empty out that entire room lol
It is a shame Eric Nylund has retired as it was his books such as ghosts of onyx that got me interested in the lore.
You should do an update video with new stuff like Halo 5 and Halo mcc

You're right, I just looked it up on Amazon. That's what I get for relying on worthless bookstores like Barnes and Noble. Thanks for the correction!
Could you make an updated version of this?
12:15 HEY IAN THEY GOT THIS YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!
You need to get some of the old joyride halo ce and 2 action figures. They are awesome.
Are the halo books like Fall of reach, first strike, the flood, ghosts of onyx, contact harvest and the Cole protocol graphic novels? I know they are books but do all of them have graphic novel and comic adaptions?

It's increased considerably since, but I'm not entirely sure by how much.
Halo Canon What do you think of the Halo 5: Guardians console? Do you plan on picking that up when it drops?
Borders was the best that store got me into reading and sci fi but look up half price books they're pretty good the books can be used though
can u give us the Infos on these dog tags ? I asked myself couple days ago what would stand on his tags
The tags just had his rank, "John-117", his height, and his weight. Nothing more.
Master Chief salutes you

Always a good choice. Best to read the books in release order

I had that Halo Reach console.
Yikes! I can barely afford my only copy of MCC... Also I'm surprised you don't collect RvB dvds and the guide book as well
I wish they make books on Destiny.
I HAVE THE WARTHOG CONTROLER
What's that case between Halo and Halo 2? It's black and large. It says halo on the side
Do you suggest Hardcovers for the Forerunner Saga(or all books)? debating between paperback or not. also
KirbyGaming I personally prefer hardcover whenever you can get them. As far as I'm aware, though, only the Forerunner Saga and Kilo-5 books were ever printed in Hard Cover.
awesome i appreciate it!

need more mcfarlans they are my fave pieces of my halo collection

Halo Canon Ok, thanks a lot

Hi ! Very nice video !
Continue !
But what's your favorite Halo ?
(Sorry i'm french x))
Halo 3: ODST
For what ? ^^
PG GAME My favorite Halo game is Halo 3: ODST.
Yes but why ? ^^
PG GAME Love the open Hub of New Mombasa, the characters are all fun, lots of level variety, and I love the noir-feel of the game and music. And the more classic gameplay is a lot of fun, too.
just a random xbox question i got my 360 new in 2010 and now im starting to get some framerate drops and stuff like that is that just because its getting old
StuieStorm05 Could be, but I'm no expert on Xboxs. I would post your requestion on r/Xbox or r/Xbox360 on Reddit, or Xbox's official forums.
ok thanks
where did you get the unsc wallet? I can't find one anywhere :(
Max Harris GameStop, if I recall correctly. They probably aren't produced anymore.
Dang well thanks for the help anyway.
Max Harris Well, keep and eye open next time you're at a Game Stop. It's possible I'm wrong, or that they might make another. There have been a few Halo wallets over the years.
Ok thanks only problem is I'm in Australia, there might be somewhere I can find one possibly our version of Game Stop.
Max Harris Damn. Well, you could try amazon. They're usually pretty well stocked with stuff in general. Other than that, I can't think of anything. Sorry :\
u think halseys journal is woth buyin on ebay or amazon?
Certainly. It's a great read!
I have Halo risk as well, never actually played because I have no one to play it with XD
I'm curious to know roughly how much all this cost ?
+TheNightRider96 No idea. A lot.
The only Halo book I have is Halo Contact Harvest. And that's because my friend let me have it. If I could, I'd read the rest of those books.
+Raymond Alcantara : There's more than 10 books. If you were to try and start reading them all, then you would have a very long reading list.
Clayton Luce I noticed from watching this video
+Raymond Alcantara You gotta read Halo:The Fall of Reach. It's about the origins of the Spartan-II's and Blue Team. If you do plan on getting the book, make sure you get the Definitive Edition.
+Clayton Luce I'm working on it. Probably not going to get the Forerunner ones of Evoloutions, but in currently up to Ghosts of onyx.
I've read: Broken Circle, contact harvest, cole protocol, fall of reach, flood, and first strike
Cool!
Just curious is there a order to the books? because i dont want to read them out of order lol or does it not matter what way i read them
+stoney fur The way I have them organized in this video is by release order, which is the way I'd recommend reading them. Some novels, especially the more recent ones, are stand alone, and technically don't require the other books to understand. However, as each new book builds on the existing lore, it's good to have read the earlier novels first.
So hunters in the dark would be last lol?
stoney fur The most recent was Shadow of Intent, or Last Light if you're going by physical novels only.
Cool as a halo collector i wanna get the books but i will read them too lol and thank you
stoney fur Fall of Reach, Ghosts of Onyx, then Glasslands go in order really well
Where do you buy them
Just got halo 2 collectors edition
Do you have the halo book called hunters in the dark i saw it today and bought it i dont know if its new or not
I also got the halo legends steelbook i love the art on it
+stoney fur Yes. It came out last year. It details a return-trip to the Ark and sets up Olympia Vale's character.
Nice
In love
What order should I read the books in???
I'd recommend release order. The newer books always build on the lore that came before, so I think it's best to naturally experience the building of Halo's lore. The only exceptions would be the Kilo-5 Trilogy and Forerunner Saga, since books from each trilogy were released once a year over the course of 3 years. Read each trilogy as a trilogy. Here's a good recommended reading order, too:

+Halo Canon Alright thx
are the books in order?
