  • The ES700 on a very wet day trail riding around North Wales finest. The engine was still cold start at the beginning, and maybe I was in third gear!!!
    The conditions were wet and slippery, the Mitas tyres worked very well the grip was insanely good. Beautiful trails to ride, great Welsh weather to kick off 2023.

    Thoroughly enjoyed this and thought the clarity was brilliant. It's unusual to see such mud woody detail. Great line choices! I was squirming at the beginning when the bike kept stalling as this is one of my issues with regards to its future purchase. However as the video progressed I started to forget about the CRF and concentrate on the 700 et.al. Very impressed if still stock gearing.

      I have an ES700 and I've just ordered the fuel dongle from a bloke in Australia. It cures the below 5000 rpm lean fuelling issue which contributes to the stalling.

      I feel the concern, however i genuinely was in the wrong gear, I’d come off the road onto the trail and not geared down then I was being lazy!! It was literally few mins from cold start too. Don’t let it put you off, it’s not been a problem for me, there are easy ways to adjust the throttle control and assist with low rev control etc 👍

    • @trailswales
      @trailswales  Рік тому +1

      @@johnbaker5263 I’m not sure about fuel dongle upgrades, but I have been reading up on re mapping etc, it’s easily manageable once your used to the bike you soon learn the correct throttle positioning and forget your not riding a 300 or similar etc…

      I have a 690 with a 14 tooth front sprocket and fuel dongle. First is still quite tall but it’s manageable in similar terrain.

    This one looks awesome. Especially 1st 10 mins or so of footage. I live and lane around North wales, but doing the same 4 or 5 lanes I know, any hints as to the area this is? Thanks for the vid.

      Hi Jake, the lanes / trials in this video are all in the Betws y Coed area, the video starts at Bwlch Y Groes here, and it’s not far from Pentrefoelas very easy to find on your OS maps 👍👍 if your not already a member of the TRF you should join because they are always active and you get to see all the amazing trails around north wales and beyond..

      Thanks for the tips on where this is too @trailswales. I’m heading that way myself too (thanks to your inspiring vids), just my style of riding. I’m picking up my GasGas soon - do you find the gearing a little long? Or are you still getting used to it? I’ve heard some riders saying it is easy to stall (no disrespect! There where a few stalls at the start, so interested in your opinion). Thanks for the awesome videos. Hopefully see you soon on the trails!

    • @trailswales
      @trailswales  Рік тому +1

      Hi Toby, its a thumper 700 its geared a bit different definitely, I think if you wanted to make it more like a dedicated enduro bike you could alter the gearing and mapping, just depends on rider preference, but that said, I've ridden it on lots of Welsh lanes and trails now from Dolgellau - Chirk etc and its still stock gearing, for me it was more about adjusting to the bike, the bike is super capable, you do have to rev it out a bit more to help less chance of stalls on tighter sections and remember its a 700 not a 250, also helps if you are in the right gear!! unlike me lol, the map switch helps a little bit on map 2 its much better on technical sections as its more responsive. The tyres were the biggest must have swap for the riding we do, the suspension is brilliant rides very similar to a 500 and once you get going its a beast high in the rev range its like a rocket!!

    Enjoyed watching, unusual that you ride solo. Do you plan your routes accordingly given the weather conditions and the bike you're riding. Did you put moose's in the Mitas tyres?

    • @trailswales
      @trailswales  Рік тому +2

      I do ride solo a lot yes, I plan my rides exactly, so I know what I’m getting into and how I would get out if I needed to!! I’ve got back up anytime if I ever needed it! I appreciate there is a risk etc if anything serious should happen in regards to injury / health issues….but it’s a risk that’s worth taking, we walk around, we work, we do sports and everything else, if I was worried about consequences all the time I wouldn’t get anything done haha. I just see a ride / plan a ride or place I won’t to go, and do it 👍

      Mooses in currently yes, matching set Mitas tyres Mitas mousses, working well, but noisy on the road, but worth the performance off road

    A great video! Shows the harsh reality of Wales
    I just got a 700 myself...which Mitas tyres have you put on your bike, please?
    Is the traction control and ABS a help or a hinderance in those conditions?

    • @trailswales
      @trailswales  Рік тому +1

      Hi, I’ve gone for the Terraforce yellow stripe front and rear, works great! Absolutely miles better than stock grips so well in the wet slippery conditions, rocks and ruts doesn’t bog down either, so good. ABS and traction control have both been good, on/off is only a switch so it’s up to you, personally I’ve been using it switched off.

    • @trailswales
      @trailswales  Рік тому +2

      Having said that…I first used this bike at the ABR festival in June and when that up hill boggy section was completely destroyed, the traction control was awesome at preventing uphill wheel spinning on the pure mud bath!

    i do love this part of wales but it is a f'er at times as there is a few too many gates i find and i am often alone

    • @trailswales

      Feel the pain! I know exactly what you’re talking about. But, the riding is so good I love it anyway, and when I’m solo riding I’ve got my gate skills dialled! Hey ho Wales / U.K. just what it is! It’s why when we can we ride abroad, Romania / Portugal / Poland all good, far less restrictions and hardly any “get off my land”

    Ive been thinking seriously about getting a 701 but listening to this video im having second thoughts. It sounds like its geared all wrong for single track technical stuff. Its lugging like crazy, and stalling alot!! It sounds like its desperate for some fast forest roads. I think you would be having way more fun on something smaller.

    • @trailswales
      @trailswales  10 місяців тому

      I totally agree about the gearing….id also recommend doing the ECU mods etc too, i am not a one bike guy haha I’ve got multiple bikes across the range of bike types 👍👍 sold the GasGas EC700. It was fun on a ton of different terrains, I kept it stock apart from tyres really, I sold it less than 7 months old with baby miles for a bike of its type. Fun whilst it lasted but having had all three of the same bike ktm, Husky, Gasgas….id take the 690 all day long
