  • Looking for a quick, inexpensive way to fix your comb height on your rifle? Mystery Ranch is known for their quality, workmanship, and warranty. They recently released the Cheeky Riser and this has quickly become one of my favorite pieces of gear for improving accuracy and getting that perfect view through your scope.
My son and I are working on building a long range hunting rifle. This video is part of a short series where we select the rifle (CVA Cascade XT), add the Salmon River Solutions "Hunters Rail" to the stock, and add the Mystery Ranch Cheeky Riser. Our goal was to strike the right balance of performance and affordability.
We don't really dive into why we selected the Mystery Ranch Cheeky Riser but we opted to go this route for a few reasons:
    -Economically priced at $69
    -Easy to install and adjust,
    -Comfortable soft cheek weld,
-Can be moved from one rifle to another,
-Love the pocket: ammo, magazine, DOPE chart, tools, & glass cleaning supplies
CVA just released a new model in the Cascade lineup for long range hunting that includes an adjustable comb height riser built into the stock. It comes at a cost and adds weight to the rifle which is not always a bad thing. For many people that may be a great option and something we would have considered if that rifle had been released at the time we made our purchase.
The built in comb height adjustment on the new stock provides a far more consistent and reliable cheek weld. It is more rigid, locks in place and can be adjusted in even smaller increments. The Mystery Ranch Cheeky Riser is a solid platform but there is certainly some play with the system. It is easily moved based on how much and the angle of pressure you put on the riser.
There are tons of aftermarket options. I have drilled through stocks and installed kydex on other rifles. That has been a solid solution but often the included hardware is bulky and I have made mistakes installing the riser to close to the action where you are left either drilling more holes or modifying the riser to get bolt clearance (I wouldn't make that mistake again). I prefer the Mystery Ranch setup for some of the reasons mentioned above. It is very reliable and you don't have to worry about a bolt or knob falling off in the field.
