  • In a time when we needed it most, #TedLasso may be our favorite comfort binge of the pandemic era. Jason Sudeikis serves as co-creator, executive producer, and star on the hit Apple TV+ series about a championship-winning college football coach who's recruited by the English Premier League to coach the OTHER kind of football across the pond. Its fish-out-of-water premise comes with a lot of heart and high-stakes sports drama to match. Want to know how it strikes that perfect tone with its unforgettable cast of ensemble players? Managing editor Benjamin Lindsay sat with Sudeikis and co-star, writer, and producer Brendan Hunt to chat about how it all came together.

So many good questions, and great long form answers. Lots of good advice that I keep finding myself coming back to. I think I've rewatched this interview a half dozen times now

Around 11:20 Jason throws the question to Brendan, then Jason proceeds to riff on the same question before the host is forced into a second transition. Really enjoy seeing that Jason's investment in the project is so sincere. And bless Brendan's patience!

18:48 when Jason casually brushes Siri off with "Oh no one's asking, Siri"....is just pure gold 😊

These guys seem way more down to earth than others in Hollywood. Love Ted Lasso!

There are so many levels on this show. Jason and Brendan built in a lot of American layers but I think Brett built in a lot of British layers. For example the character Keeley is a sort of page 3 topless model famous for being almost famous. Then they actually cast Keeley Hazels as young Rebecca. Keeley Hazel is THE page 3 topless model. Classy-er than most but really well admired. That’s brilliant.

Early in the first episode, when Lasso puts the John Wooden success poster on the wall sets the tone for the entire series, and then listening to how the cast has no turkeys makes me think that Wooden's philosophy carries through to every aspect of how this show is made. Really amazing work. Thank you.

Season 3 has been commissioned !! Such a great pair of guys and so genuine too. It's just the right antidote to Trump, Brexit and Covid...how did we get through without Ted Lasso? Stay Safe and Be Kind x

I love long form answers. Instead of just giving a meaningless bite you get to understand their mindset at a deeper level.

Much of Roy's character and humor comes from his "noises" (I can't even call it a script!) He was hilarious and my favorite character in the show!

This show might be an example of successful writing, it’s not an example of good writing.
