The biggest mistake Toney made was disrespecting his current club following his Betting ban. The interviews he undertook had an adverse reaction to his brand prior to that he was simply known as good traditional striker that came up from the lower league. After the interviews, he came across arrogant, entitled and a character perceived difficult to manage by potential suitora. Additionally, further scrutiny of his numbers and style of played revealed his qualities were overvalued, especially the lack of open play goals and interplay attributes, incredibly important to top 6 team.

Probably because Toney’s scored 0 open play goals in his last 16 games since his betting ban and there’s a risk he gets a long ban again. Averages 5 open play goals a season in the PL. Elite clubs wouldn’t want to change the way they play just to chuck long balls, long throws up to old school Toney. My surprise is the way the English media talk about Toney hasn’t brainwashed Man City into buying him. Toney is a bang average old school English striker that belongs at long throw Brentford. Toney is the type of striker that would have suited Wimbledon of the 1990’s. And he turns 29 years old this season.
You need to check the data......including time off with ban, 4 years at Brentford 67 goals in 128 appearances more than half from open play....... he is a good striker, a battler and good in the air. He can run centerbacks ragged
@SteveGailer I've not checked but he does say Premier League and you are using his 33 goal championship season with it. Now there's EPL data on him no one is looking at his age 24/25 season in the championship
@@Ryan-ys2bq that's a fair argument. cutting it down to premier league only puts him at 36 goals in 83 games which brings it under the 1:2 ratio previously argued but still reasonable. but it should also be noted that 20 goals in 33 games in 22/23 skews that as well.
I do think that Toney should move instead of running down contract simply because of the support Brentford gave him during the gambling ban. Running down contract after that would be very harsh
Because of his price, wages and age. PL clubs that needed a striker found them cheaper elsewhere. West Ham was looking for an older striker, and found Fullkrug for cheaper than Toney. Man Utd bought a younger Zirkzee.
I think his personality plays a part as much, if not more so than the points you listed. Since he's returned from the ban and even during he has come across as arrogant and entitled every time someone has put a camera in front of him 😂 pair that with poor form after the ban and an unimpressive euros I'm not surprised clubs in England aren't taking a punt on him. @@jakep5196 I think he was good at the Euros for the small amount of game time he was given by Southgate and being forced to play the miserable Southgateball.
@@spinyslasher6586 he done a job at the Euros wouldn't say anything other than that tbh, if anything I think he was there purely because of his penalties. See that in how late it was brought into the game everytime.
1. Brentford want too much money 2. Toney is apparently wanting £250,000 per week 3. Comes with baggage that could come back to bite a club 4. Hes 28 years old so not much chance of any resale value. 5. Hes out of contract next summer. 6. Hes not good enough to play for a "top club" in England.
He's on £20k/week, he's barely a millionaire, but that also means he has less leverage than most in negotiating a bigger salary. PL clubs are hoping they can get a very good striker that's in his prime, on the cheap, while Toney is trying to set his family up for generations. If there was a top 6 club willing to pay him £150k/week+ (which isn't outrageous given some of the salaries that other players are on like Antony, Timo Werner, Joelinton, Danny Ings, Eddie Nketiah, etc) he'd probably stay in the Prem, but because he's on £20k/week and because of the gambling issue they're probably lowballing him with offers under £100k/week, and if Saudi are coming with £250k/week+ then it's a no brainer for someone who has never made a lot in football. People can talk about the move ruining his chances of playing for England but he's already done that, something he couldn't have imagined happening 3 years ago, and there's no guarantee he'd be selected in 2026 for the WC, but what is guaranteed is that his family will need money, and a £13m+/year Saudi contract, tax free? That's life changing for Toney and his family and he'll most likely only get the opportunity once.
This is a terrible social media post. What this is missing is some hate, some racial dog whistle slurs, some completely irrational assertions and a sense that the writer is either coming down from a lifelong Meth habit, or is wannabe skinhead deep in the middle of a long Meth fueled binge. Thanks for posting something worth reading, though.
paused immediately to add my two cents: attitude. spurs signed solanke for 50% more because he gets his head down and isn’t disrespecting his own club every other week. toney is shameless.
I assume they never mention his attitude because of his skin colour which makes this video completely pointless. There are literally two main reasons why top clubs won't go for him, attitude & gambling problem. Obviously, his playing style & age are other factors for some PL clubs.
@JackBenjamin39 I can't believe more people aren't seeing that as the main reason. Adding to that he came back and was uninspiring for us. At a time when he should've got his head down and focused on playing well to get clubs talking again he decided it was better to go an talk about "what was next" for himself. He's a quality player and for what he does on the pitch I'll be sad to see him go he's given us some fantastic memories but he clearly thinks he's bigger than the club and you can't have a player with that mentality at any club.
I remember when The Athletic and other media space kept propagating the narrative that Arsenal wanted Ivan Toney. I never bought that idea. Clearly, a lot of the "interest" in Ivan Toney is Agent generated. Lots of these reporters, like any field, should not be taken seriously. They engage in access journalism, you get access and you play nice with your "source". I like financial journalists and those who report the story instead of trying to be part of the story. Finance is objective, you fudge numbers and it can be spotted. Needless to say, Ivan Toney like Osimehn overplayed their hands. got new agents who promised them too much and cant seem to deliver. Using journalists to push false narratives of interest has always been a thing. This case is no different. Unfortunate, Toney deserves a move for his final payday it has just been mismanaged. Hopefully he gets a massive contract from Saudi and he takes it.
@@PazLeBon Players and Manager meet all the time. This is one of those transfers that was more a media creation than a club actually wanting a player. If they met once and no movement to sign him on any level. What does that tell you? When everything is speculation, the transfer is a media narrative. Media have this obsession to try to prove their worth. They tell you Arsenal need a traditional 9 despite teams winning without a traditional 9. As long as Arsenal dont sign tha player, theyll use it as justification to keep using that line as a reason for them not winning certain matches or a title. Modern football says, get goals from more than one person. Having the fortunes of your club be solely on one player is a thing of the past. That is too expensive of a way to play. Toney falls into that category of a media creation because it feels like a self fulfilling narrative.
Hes gonna end up at a mid/lower half team on a free next year. No ones willing to spend the money on him right now, its not worth it when hes had so many off field issues. And i cant see saudi coming in for him on massive wages either, he isnt that popular. @PazLeBon Might be conjecture. But the person that told me is a football coac and has very good contacts within the club. Quite telling that no one has tried to sign him. Not even Man U or Chelsea.
It isnt just him, clubs aren't willing to spend and pay guys on the wrong side of 25 now. Game is shifting and becoming younger, more control over players in their prime is whay clubs seek. Football is a business first mentality now
Age, wages, price, mentality, off field issues, and what else could be wrong with him is(now hes picking up injuries and missing major game tome as well) all factors working against his transfer at this time
Liam talking about Martinelli scoring the goals Arsenal need was just hilarious. Has he even watched Arsenal play the last 12 moths? When did Martinelli show last season that you can rely on him scoring goals? And we have so far seen the exact same Martinelli in pre season and the first Premier League game as the Martinelli we saw last season. Martinelli has had one single good season for Arsenal and to rely on him to suddenly become the player he was then is in reality to gift the Premier League win to City. For everybody apart from maybe Liam, is it extremely obvious that Arsenal need to sign a proper goal scorer. Either a striker or a left winger and maybe a left winger to replace Martinelli is the best option. It makes perfect sense for Arsenal to sign a player like Toney, but it is VERY obvious that all top clubs are not interested in singing Toney at all. It might be because of his gambling and it might be because of reasons we don't know about, but the reality is that there are multiple top clubs that need a striker like Toney in their team. Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool for sure need one and it would be nice for United to have one now as well, but still no one are willing to touch him with a ten foot long pole.
It's an added bonus for Brentford if they can sell Toney for a high fee and not have to worry about him playing for another Prem team and come back scoring against them
Toney ‘made it’ late in his career. Why? Probably because of his unwavering self-belief. However, there is a fine balance and it doesn’t take much to veer into an arrogant egomaniac. That might work for Toney when he can get away with it being the big fish in the small Brentford pond, but it IS a red flag to the bigger clubs. But making it late also means he’s now playing catch up. Whereas most Prem kids are millionaires by 21, Toney was a relative peasant. So he feels like he’s missed out and is entitled to go and chase that bag. His focus on monetary gain will also turn a lot of the big clubs off. He’ll end up in the camel league. It’s a pretty obvious solution: Brentford take an inflated fee, and Toney earns the money he thinks he’s missed out on. He won’t care about playing for England, because being an unused sub is worth less than retiring with £10m in the bank. We need to be clear - there are zero concerns with his ability. He IS one of the top forwards in the Prem. This is as they say ‘just business’ and him looking after his retirement. Do I blame him? Not really. He’ll retire knowing that he made it AND with a serious wedge in his pocket.
In his interview with a ceo podcast he said he has failed medicals for a back problem that doesn't bother him but still shows up. This could be another factor
The point with Tonney is his age and his attitude works against him .Arsenal supposedly had an interview with him and weren't impresses with his attitude . Tottenham are probably his best fit but age and resale matter to them. MAN UTD are not a win now club so they believe he's not suitable for a project .City don't need him . toney would be an absolutely brilliant fit football-wise for us at arsenal: he works hard defensively, he's far better as a creator than generally given credit for, and he's a smart player. problem is his age vs price and POSSIBLY whether he'd fit in personality-wise.
@@Ryan-ys2bq i disagree. the notion that toney is just a physically more robust peter crouch is wrong. if anything, havertz-as-striker is a not terrible comp to me, which makes him an excellent fit (football-wise). he's also not a terrible creator (witness the assist to mbuemo in their dismantling of united some time ago) on top of it. that said, i'm not sure if he's a fit in terms of personality and that's a big deal to the eduteta so it might well be a moot point.

Even less if you're looking for goals from open play. Which guess what? Any club not in the bottom half is wanting. Why does that happen? Because he offers very little from open play. He's a dead ball bagsman. Plays in a 2 or a 3 with inverted wingers but gets about 4 assists a season. The 2 seasons in the prem he wasn't banned he hit 56% and 58% passing accuracy. 28 years, is coming of a long suspension. Also, despite that age, over 50% of league games he has played have either been in League 1 or League 2. He "only" has 1 season in the championship and 2.5 seasons in the premier league. There are just too many red flags there to justify spending a lot of money on him. Especially now with all these limits on spending. Also if I'm Toney, go to Saudi League and get that money. You play this season without a long term deal, you are one bad challenge away from potentially losing millions especially at that age.
The clamour for big clubs to sign Toney was only from English media and naive fans in my opinion. His style doesn't suit any one of the big clubs. He's a big target man with decent hold-up play and a great penalty taker. He doesn't really run in behind, he's not a massive pressing machine, he's not great at taking players on or something else. For a player that was going to cost something like 50mil quid it makes absolutely no sense. He's had a couple of good seasons and suddenly he's valued at that insane price, it makes no sense. He's effectively a younger English version of Joselu who only cost Madrid 1.5mil. Arteta loves multifunctional players and forwards that are a lot more mobile and rounded than Toney, for 50mil it was never ever going to happen.
Why couldnt Brentford pause his contract during the ban, i feel they got punished more than Toney did. Anyways reasons 28, everyone is PSR'ing resale value is everything right now, paying 50m is not wise for a 1 season prem guy, im sure if he made it to a free next summer plenty would give him a 4 year deal with an eye on moving him on at 31 for profit.
Tony should show loyalty, towards Brentford, like they showed him during is ban, not a player i would want at my arsenal bad attitude, wrong age ,he would be a bad Apple 🍎,over hyped by inself and media
Very simple . Toney is an arrogant high maintenance player . He can’t even pretend to be humble when speaking to other clubs . Case in point Arsenal. I also think that it isn’t impossible that there may be another gambling situation going on in background. Will the money he’d make in Saudi be a bit dangerous for someone with gambling issues ?? I hope not for his sake.
they know what we dont. these clubs do their due diligence and the facts that every clubs came to the same conclusion not to sign him, it tells you something. i wouldnt be surprised if england wouldnt call him up in the next international break.

At 30m before Zirkzee yes, good enough to run the line to rest Rasmus while not blocking minutes from his development, but now there's 2 young strikers who need minutes, this would be the time you'd want a Henrik Larsson type loan to help them along but having Ruud there is enough
Nah on paper Solanke's profile is a much better fit for the way Tottenham play. And that's not getting into the attitude thing which is huge for Postecoglou.

Why aren't people signing him? Because of his gambling issue and ALSO he's just not that good. He had one decent goalscoring season in the prem, but I refuse to believe he is the answer to a number 9 at a top club but he's not worth any more than 20 million, he's basically a Danny Ings. Also, do you know how many times Toney has "saved" Brentford with a goal contribution when they needed it to break the deadlock late on in a game? 0. NONE AT ALL. He's not some magical answer at number 9 for Arsenal, in fact I would argue that Havertz will have a better season than Toney, as will Jesus. Toney is just not that good, end of story. I'm also so glad Arsenal didn't sign him and still haven't, he seems like a problem player: gambling, can't stay off social media, conduct issues, etc... anything but the model professional that leads by example, which is what Arteta wants in his players.
Too big of a gamble to go for Toney. You never know if he will be banned again for new betting charges. Guessing thats why no PL clubs are interested in him.
Despite the English media, the top clubs understand Toney is a much more average player in open play than the options they already have, and his previous ban and overall attitude would be enough to give some additional pause.

I think had he not run his mouth, we would have seen the likes of West Ham or Spurs take a punt on him, but saying that he apparently had a 5 minute conversation with Arteta and that was enough to tank a move to Arsenal that's been rumoured for about 18 months so who knows 😂 at least with the Saudis they might just think his personality is down to the language barrier and not because of his over inflated ego 😂
@@jakep5196 I think he was good at the Euros for the small amount of game time he was given by Southgate and being forced to play the miserable Southgateball.

Tony signing for an English Premier team is such a bad bet, even Ivan doesn't like the odds.

1. Brentford want too much money
2. Toney is apparently wanting £250,000 per week
3. Comes with baggage that could come back to bite a club
4. Hes 28 years old so not much chance of any resale value.
5. Hes out of contract next summer.
6. Hes not good enough to play for a "top club" in England.
6 but but Muh goals

Great insight from Jay Harris, I'd love to hear more from him
He makes perfect sense for Chelsea. That’s why they won’t sign him
lol
Chelsea here we go
Failed the character test. He’s a warning for others
Yeah but finance still gets your Jim Kramers who pushes stuff for his hedge fund buddies
@@GUYE-FAWKES none of the big clubs ever took Toney serious, media hype at its finest
I can’t see Arteta sanctioning a deal for him.
Arteta met with him so it was completely true lol
He's almost 30, he wants a ton of money and he has massive character concerns.
Hes gonna end up at a mid/lower half team on a free next year. No ones willing to spend the money on him right now, its not worth it when hes had so many off field issues. And i cant see saudi coming in for him on massive wages either, he isnt that popular.
I think Tony should have just signed a new contract and stuck it out at brentford, they wont miss him, he will miss them
what many off filed issues? a few bets like most of us?
He tried to fight Gabriel in the parking lot after a match. Fella is a head case, McGregor levels. Talented absolutely, but showing Balotelli signs.

It isnt just him, clubs aren't willing to spend and pay guys on the wrong side of 25 now. Game is shifting and becoming younger, more control over players in their prime is whay clubs seek. Football is a business first mentality now

Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool for sure need one and it would be nice for United to have one now as well, but still no one are willing to touch him with a ten foot long pole.
lol havertz got 20 returns in 37 starts, including 13 goals and was his first season under arteta
Why are they selling?
Because of his William Hill account.
💀😂
Underrated
It's an added bonus for Brentford if they can sell Toney for a high fee and not have to worry about him playing for another Prem team and come back scoring against them
How many goals from open play
Is this a done deal? These guys are talking like hes already in Saudi. Can they tell us the terms of the deal if hes gone?
Not really. He’ll retire knowing that he made it AND with a serious wedge in his pocket.
it wasnt with ronanldo 7
In his interview with a ceo podcast he said he has failed medicals for a back problem that doesn't bother him but still shows up. This could be another factor

Because Toney is overrated.
@DisillusionedAcronym no he wouldn't at all, he would be a good option for a 10 minute long ball option if you needed it off the bench
@@Ryan-ys2bq
i disagree. the notion that toney is just a physically more robust peter crouch is wrong. if anything, havertz-as-striker is a not terrible comp to me, which makes him an excellent fit (football-wise). he's also not a terrible creator (witness the assist to mbuemo in their dismantling of united some time ago) on top of it.
that said, i'm not sure if he's a fit in terms of personality and that's a big deal to the eduteta so it might well be a moot point.

Good finisher, holds the ball up well and is ice cold from the spot but he's not offering a lot from open play add to that he's also got a massively inflated ego which if I had to guess is why Arteta scraped a deal that was going through the rumour mill for 18 months after a 5 minute conversation 😂 he's chasing the bag and I can respect that, just would've been nice not to have to listen to him talk openly about "what was next for Ivan Toney" every time he got infront of a camera. Still I hope he gets the move he wants and we get a nice fat payday to boot.
@@jakep5196 That's your opinion, reads like sour grapes. He is as good as any striker in the league. Brentford are a little club that without it's location wouldn't be able to attract hardly any good players. Even if you become a stable prem team you will always struggle to hold on to players. Football has a food chain, you need to face reality, Brentford will always be a small fish. Players will always view you as a stepping stone to something better. The same can't be said for him. Which is why it's so laughable that he genuinely things one 20 goal season in the Prem makes him entitled to walk into any club in the land 🤣 🤣 I'm under no illusion when it comes to our standing in the English game. You and Toney clearly are when it comes to his though 🤣 as good as any striker in the league? Laughable. Has less than a goal every 2 games in the prem. That's abysmal for a player who's apparently "one of the best in the world at holding thr ball up" Haaland gets more than that and does more and he's only job for city is to be in the 18 yard box and scoring tap ins ffs. You say sour grapes I say one of us has spent the last 4 years watching him and can tell you comfortably you've been smoking way too much stardawg if you think he's "as good as anyone in the league".
Tell me if it's sour grapes and not just he's attitude and short comings as a player how has no one come in for him? How comes Arsenal scrapped a move they'd been weighing up after Arteta spoke to him about 5 minutes? How comes Spurs have gone and paid out 25/30 million MORE for Solanke? How comes West ham have gone for some 30 odd year old German no body had heard of 3 years ago? How comes united pulled the plug on it? FFS even Chelsea weren't interested. How comes no one in Europe is knocking on his door? That seems like an awful lot of rejection for "one of the best in the country" don't it? 28 years, is coming of a long suspension. Also, despite that age, over 50% of league games he has played have either been in League 1 or League 2. He "only" has 1 season in the championship and 2.5 seasons in the premier league.
There are just too many red flags there to justify spending a lot of money on him. Especially now with all these limits on spending. Also if I'm Toney, go to Saudi League and get that money. You play this season without a long term deal, you are one bad challenge away from potentially losing millions especially at that age.
He might burst your bet
He's better than Hoijland
Age, wage and possibly personality.
History and character... Says it all.
You know fuck all about football then.
Just here to keep count of the eNGliSh mEDiA morons
wow, haaland must be dog shit on that reckoning lol
wasn't alleged gambling activity, he was found guilty.
So he has basically given up
Why couldnt Brentford pause his contract during the ban, i feel they got punished more than Toney did.
Anyways reasons
28, everyone is PSR'ing resale value is everything right now, paying 50m is not wise for a 1 season prem guy, im sure if he made it to a free next summer plenty would give him a 4 year deal with an eye on moving him on at 31 for profit.
Tony should show loyalty, towards Brentford, like they showed him during is ban, not a player i would want at my arsenal bad attitude, wrong age ,he would be a bad Apple 🍎,over hyped by inself and media
They didn’t show him loyalty, they wanted to make a profit on their asset.
It’s pretty clear. He’s not that good
Very simple .
I feel for him. Has to be devastating to go from being slated for a 100 mil in Europe to less than half in Arabia.
such a tough life
I dont know for sure. But i have an idea that Toney has a lazy mentality. He will riun the dressing room
they know what we dont. these clubs do their due diligence and the facts that every clubs came to the same conclusion not to sign him, it tells you something. i wouldnt be surprised if england wouldnt call him up in the next international break.

In today’s market he doesn’t represent good value.
