  • In anticipation of the Spring High School Volleyball Preliminary Rounds, which begin on November 4, we are introducing the seeded schools in this series.
Today, we take a look at the 4th seeded girls' team, Kagoshima Minami High School, and the boys' team, Shohnan. High School
Kagoshima Minami High School is the No. 4 seed for girls.
Last year, they beat Kagoshima Jitsugyo in the final of the prefectural qualifiers and qualified for the national tournament for the first time in three years, but with a new team, they came in third in both the rookie tournament and the summer inter-high prefectural qualifiers.
Under coach Yuki Kuurakake, who is in his first year in the position, the team has spent a lot of time practicing their receiving and blocking skills to avoid being overpowered by their opponents.
Captain Mitsuki Ikegame , Kagoshima Minami High School 3rd
'Because of our small stature, we are practicing more attack patterns, and on the defensive side, we are practicing to be able to handle any spiker.'
The attack is led by third-year setter Hinata Sakaki.
She has been the regular setter since last year and also played on the orange court at Spring High School.

I want to confuse the opposing team by playing around their blocks with my toss work.
Led by Hinata Sakaki, since the Inter-High Prefectural Qualifier, the team has increased the variety of its attacks, from side attacks to quick attacks from the center, and back attacks.
For the six third-year students, this will be the last tournament of their high school careers.
The challenge of the previous queen will begin as she heads to Spring High School for the second year in a row.
Rin Nojima, Kagoshima Minami High School 3rd
The six of us have overcome a lot of hardships over the past three years, so we definitely want to win this tournament and stand on the stage of Spring High School with the whole team.
Shohnan High School, the No. 4 seed in the men's competition.
This year, they lost in the semifinals at all prefectural tournaments.
In recent years, the team has finished third in the spring high school prefectural qualifying rounds, and the barrier of the semifinals stands tall.
The ace of the team is Jigen Taira, who has been a regular on the court since his freshman year.
Jigen Taira, Jyunan High School 3rd
I lost in the semifinals in my first and second year, so I want to do my best to win this year.
Her weapons are her high leaping ability and the spikes she delivers with her supple form.
Also this year, the team has height, with the average height of the starters being over 180 cm.
The middle blocker is Kaiji Utsunomiya, the tallest player on the team, a promising freshman of 184 cm.
Coach Tokumaru says that the success rate of the middle blockers is the key to victory or defeat.
The team's setter and leader, Kazuma Murakami, is also tall at 180 cm, and will make the most of his height in the competition.
Kazuma Murakami, Shohnan High School 3rd
I can distribute the toss higher than other setters, which allows me to speed up the tempo of the attack.
Captain Jigen Taira, Shohnan High School 3rd
I have wanted to go to Haru High School since I started playing volleyball, so I definitely want to go this year.
We are aiming for our first final in 5 years, and our first Spring High School tournament in 20 years.
This is the year we will go over the wall.
The Spring High School Volleyball Prefectural Qualifying Tournament will finally begin on the 4th.
