I just want to add my two cents to those asking that Rogue consider making the Arnold 45's commercially available, even if on a special you-order-'em-then we make-'em basis. A rough guesstimate is that it takes about 3 man-months to make 2 dozen of these plates. Selling or auctioning the plates after the contest would be one way for Rogue to recoup the cost of making these pieces of art. These will be as collectible as the Inch Dumbell or Spiderman #1!
@@ashtonw9931 You forgot machine time. A cnc mill of this size usually costs at least 200K if its a cheap one. The one rogue uses is probably not too expensive, because their machining tolerances are pretty big, but this is probably still a 300K machine. Rogue Fitness: I believe you are mis-understanding some of the comments. I believe some people are asking about buying the specific bar and plates used at the Arnold itself. Not copies. Is there a plan to sell/auction the World Record bar and plates?
during the part of the video where they are dropping the bar over and over, they go to a slow mo shot. you can actually see the bar show a sign of weightlessness for a brief second, when the bar is being dropped the bar is bent in a downward angle as its dropped the bar falls but at the same time the flex of the bar rebounds causing the ends of the bar to rise there is a split second when the momentum of the weights rebounding up and the bar dropping down meet and the bar actually freezes in mid air. interesting concept and physics behind this. with they had like the slow mo guys there to do some crazy shots .
3:15.., lucky to get one machined in a 12 hour shift?.., I worked in aerospace benching wing ribs for the airbus A380 and A320.., dozens if intricate pockets, feet and angles and was about 8 feet long.., it took "4 hours" to machine each rib from billet to the deburring stage.., I suggest you turn up the RPM on your CNC machines.., I could make one of those plates from billet stage with a dremmel in under 12 hours.
If you haven't milled with that make and model of machine, then you cant say what its capacity is. I've worked on several cutting machines and they all had different max speeds.
I have the commercial version of those plates. They are on the wall for show and I use the normal rogue deep dish plates for workouts. They look great even if they are black and not bare steel.
I was unfamiliar with this whole thing and knew of no manufacturer names but catching a glimpse of these striking plates made me do some research and brought me here. One rookie question, isn't a bendier bar easier to lift because it eases the initial part of the lift? I see that the final part of the lift seems to be the decisive, harder part, but the athlete will have more remaining energy if the initial part is made easier (you're not lifting the whole weight for the first 10 inches).
How is the difficulty compared to the standard 7ft bars you mentioned? Eddie Hall seemed to have an easier time with his 500kg deadlift than on the Elephant bar. Is there a reason for that?
The bar comes alive man ...there is a horizontal movement in the bar itself and each plate kinda lifts up separately and the bar is too long...hence you have to give more power than an Olympic barbell Eddie used for 500kg...
Damn those plates are nice. I would love to buy a pair of them to hang on my garage gym wall. but Rogue would probably have to sell each plate for $1,200+ just to make a little profit. Still, even at that price Rogue could definitely sell a couple hundred of them.
+Rainier Corral I believe I've read that back in his prime, his best was 715lbs. I may be off a bit, but I'm fairly certain that was his best DL back in the day.
You're correct. There are pictures online of him lifting over 700 lbs on a "standard" bar (plates with 1" or 1 1/16" diameter holes), which means the contestants had to start much lower & closer to the floor. Pretty impressive.
Really bendy bars make getting the weight up harder. Which is why powerlifting uses real stiff ones. Olympic lifting tends to prefer bendy ones because you can use the whippy-ness to your advantage.
Its ridiculous. Someone was buying my old plate set and was like, how close are they. I asked what he meant, and he said many plate sets can be up to 2 lbs different and mentioned rogue plates. I weighted my 45s and they were both 45.2, part of a really old CAP set. Seems like Rogue has people eating up their marketing bullshit.

Yes, not all of the plates leave the floor at the same time. Ends are still touching while the inside is an inch off the floor.

Obvious inspiration from Zuver's. Terry Todd especially is very familiar with Zuver's. These are insanely cool. I need some.
Good observation. Their width is similar to York's "deep dish" plates & the inside pattern is similar to Zuver's.
