I see Rivian delivery vehicles everywhere now. I live in the metro Detroit area. The former Silver Dome location is now an Amazon warehouse. The parking lot is full of Rivian delivery vans. The chargers were there for about a year before the vans showed up.

I own a Rivian R1T. I also owned a Tesla Model Y Performance at the same time. I sold the Tesla and kept the Rivian. It's the best EV out there, period.

I've always admired your tenacity and strict quality [of] product observation, Alex. Might I suggest a timeline, in this extended compilation, would've gone a long way to mitigate the criticism I [seem to] detect in the comments.
What about like the cybertruck brake pedal cap coming apart and locking it in full throttle position. Only one as far as I know,....but caused a full recall.

I had to take a break
I had my Rivian R1T for almost 2 years with 32k miles on it. By far the best truck - car I ever owned. Plus the company provided the best support once can imagine. Pre-ordered R2 and can't wait to get it for my Wife. Accelerator pedal breaking is not the biggest problem, even if it break on the freeway. You have regen etc and you can pull over or stop with your hazards on whatever. Car's break all the time, my old Pontiac just stalled on the highway leaving me stranded in the middle lane. Nobody died. Rivian is an excellent company. I had a very disappointing relationship with Tesla Audi and others. I have never had such a great communication and support from any other brand. I'm not getting paid or anything just a huge fan of the brand and my product. Will be releasing 2 year evaluation video soon.

@@EforElectric Not really, I get that you need to gather solid data for anything. I'm not saying it didn't happen to others. All I'm saying is that Rivian has been pretty good at fixing and doing recalls. They changed my accelerator pedal under recall.
Tesla’s customer service was great in the early years between 2016 and 2018 when I used to have a Model S. They made you feel very appreciated as a customer. Later on when we needed service for our Model Y post covid, their service and communication went pretty much down the toilet. My current customer service and communication with Rivian for my R1S is great! I hope it won’t decline over time the same way it happened with Tesla.

The Rivian R1S is the best vehicle I've ever driven, out of over 100+ in my lifetime. Its quiet, comfortable, luxurious, capable on and off road, fast as hell, and every interaction with the company has also left me impressed.
I think if you spent less time hating on EV companies for UA-cam clicks and made honest content, you might ne able to afford a Rivian one day.

Rivian will be one rare survivor with EV slaughter. "Tsla went through difficult times that people then thought it wont survive. Everyone will have a niche in ev ecosphere, Rivn is has it segment.
Being a R1T preorder customer since Feb 2019 and receiving my truck in May 2022 after all the Covid impacts to ALL industries, I am a very happy and loyal Rivian customer. We experienced a few very minor issues which were handled very well. We experienced one coolant issue while on vacation in NY and Rivian immediately got us in to their Brooklyn shop to repair the issue AND got us a luxury rental. They have ALWAYS been professional and friendly and I have no idea why you spout this hate. We enthusiastically preordered an R2 and look forward to its delivery.

This is all he does. That's why I unsubscribed. Same guy who bashed Tesla and tried to sell everyone on the id3, then realized how stupid he was and then bashed vw.
Granted, the stock has suffered. I bought during the IPO and will just hold. The headwinds that Rivian and the whole US EV sector are facing are difficult to overcome. And every time Tesla sneezes, industry shares get a cold. I still have faith in the premise of EV’s.

@@EforElectric As an owner of an R1T, I disagree with the comments about quality and customer service. We all knew that purchasing a vehicle from a start-up company would have some minor glitches. However the fit and finish of the vehicle I purchased is exceptional (granted I'm in the 30k VIN, so they have had time to get things corrected). Customer service has been outstanding as well. I own a Model Y too, and the refreshing thing about Rivian is the ability to talk or chat with a live person, unlike Tesla with whom it seems impossible to contact anyone in the company.
Has Alex done a video about his new life in Thailand since he moved there over a year ago i think ??? I would be interested in seeing his opinion after living there for a while.
My neighbor received an R1T last year. It is the nicest car I've ever been in. I am sorry to hear about all of these issues.

It would help alot to have dates on the screen, whenever showing content snippets from the past.
When someone preorders a first gen product that has never been made before, they are lucky to receive anything at all. Or perhaps they would be luckier if they were simply ripped off rather than receiving a product so chocked full of bugs, defects, and gross design errors that they soon realize many of the reasons why such a product was never made before. The prudent customer waits until at least second or third gen.

Rivian could ask Amazon to cancel the deal - but then again, how much money would it lose - Don't blame this on Amazon - blame it on Rivian. They made the deal. Do you know why? Because they had to.
TBF these criticisms, while accurate, are unfortunately not necessarily unique to just Rivian. Most big companies, let along car companies, do all kinds of shenanigans. The Rivian R1T is a great truck. I don't own one, but have driven one long distance. It is always enlightening however to see how the sausage is made, but it isn't a reason not to eat it (well maybe with actual sausage).
BTW I believe the reason Rivian doesn't release the "tank turn" feature is because they are afraid it will be abused and result in a lot of environmental damage to trails and such, not because it isn't "done" or ready. The new Mercedes EV quad motor "G wagon" does have the tank turn feature, we'll see how well that goes once its in customer hands.

Here in Germany the same has happened to some yt influencers, one who is working for a VW sub company and who had worked before for Mercedes which had bought an ID.3 month before the first delivery and finally after about 3 years of his lease he released a video with all the costs of this ID.3 .
At that point VW got upset even though what he had shown were his costs like a new suspension which he also removed before giving the car back to the lease car. So since then he is no longer invited while others are and which means his voice is shut down without any access except he gets an early delivery access from his subscribers.

The Propaganda Relations departments shouldn’t have the right to exclude reporters they don’t like. That kind of censorship should be banned by law. It violates the freedom of press. Alex and his peers in the same situation should file a class action lawsuit against one of those corporates and then use the court decision nationwide to get access to all events.
Every Rivian owner I have talked to has stated they love theirs.
When you spend this much money on the car why would you admit that you don't enjoy it?

Rivians are incredible, beautiful and capable vehicles. The latest v2 vehicles… ie dual motor variants are near perfect. It’s miraculous that any car company can turn out such gorgeous vehicles let alone a new car company. In addition, every month the vehicles get better because of the incredible software team and that’s after you bought it. Good luck having any kind of experience like that with a GM. And yes, I was a GM guy for 30 years.
You can't build out servicing prior to sufficient market share. Time is required

There should be a brake pedal test and there probably is, but I wonder if the parts are weaker because they don't perform the exact same function as previously and therefore a weak design that you want to be one of the strongest parts of any vehicle. Great video!

they have burned more than madoff with no profits in site 19 billion. Somehow magically they are going to turn a profit lol! They did a first round of cost cutting and the losses actually went up from 30k to 43k because of their incompetence. It is a charity not a business.

I know someone who was hired by Rivian as a director to start hiring people and expanding the org structure to facilitate a big expansion to one of the engineering teams, and their entire department and all their hires got laid off in the recent wave of layoffs. So they got paid to build a team for about a year and then that entire team was let go.

Every Amazon van in my neighborhood is Rivian. Tesla is also losing money on cyber truck and more than 2% are on used car market already

Rivian will likely be fine as they can absorb the customers that want a luxury adventure EV truck or SUV and don’t want a Tesla Cybertruck, Model X, Kia EV9, or don’t like Elon. Rivian will also likely absorb wealthy Tesla luxury vehicle customers as Tesla transitions into a mass market value brand. As Tesla becomes ubiquitous and not “special” anymore, Rivian can become a more distinguished alternative.
Should we blame Rivian for lying to us like most companies do in America for the all mighty dollar or YOU, for believing in them?

This video is old and Rivian has corrected a lot of what is talked about in this video, All startups have issues that get corrected. This is the first video from E for Electric that I have found as disingenuous and so I will give him a pass on this one however I feel he should clarify this video with a new release. If I wasn't well informed of Rivian then this video could sway me against Rivian which seems to be the purpose of this video rather than just facts.
If the accelerator pedal fails going uphill on say an ice road in the case of Ice Road Truckers. You're going to be at the mercy of sliding back or worse thawing ice!
Does it have Radar Cruise Control as I do in my Mazda where I very rarely use the accelerator and brakes, it steers itself too?
You've lost your mind. I got the original price when they clearly didn't need to. When I had a minor issue, customer service was about 2 minutes to get a response and 18 hours to have someone at my house. The only negative was not being on the Tesla network and now that's solved. I've owned 2 Teslas and the Rivian is a million times better with better service, pricing, updates, communication. Dude, you are normally normal but this is like from a different person.

This truck is incredible. The only negative was not having Tesla access, and that's solved. I am hoping Rivian makes it and everyone can enjoy this truck, or something like it. I loved my S and my 3, but this is even better.

This video hasn't aged well for Rivian. In 2021, Rivian stock was trading at $70 now in April 2024, its at $9. That's a serious fall from grace.

A little startup named Ford once made itself into a giant by laser-focusing on the bottom segment of the vehicle market - why is all of today's EV investment going into first making high-priced "luxury" (though often not that luxurious) cars and trucks? And some express wonder why the transition to all-electrics has been so slow (and it's not all about the cost of rare earths in batteries - more about trying to get top-dollar while dragging on the capacity end).
..& many other things, especially a gullible public fed with disinformation

As always its great watching a reporter who reports the facts without the corporate censorship. These days their PR stands for Propaganda Relations rather than Public Relations. However, there was a small mistake in your video. You stated no custom was delivered a R1S in December. That’s not correct. I took delivery of my R1S in December and I am not a Rivian employee or have any business relationships with the company. I was one of the first reservation holders and was able to buy the car about $20K below its current listing price because they honored the price at the time of reservation. Unlike Tesla. I also had a reservation for a Cybertruck but I canceled it after I was offered to finalize the order and I noticed the $69K car I made the reservation for would cost me now over $100K, comes with 5 instead of 6 seats and significantly less range than promised. I have been a Tesla owner since 2016. Still have a Model Y but have to admit, Rivian is a very nice car and if the R2 keeps that quality, the company will most likely become a serious competitor for Tesla.

Just Watched a batch fest rant...
In 3 years since end of April 2021, Rivian stock has lost 93% of its value. The company stock value is less than $9Bn ( small beans for a car company ). And as the company has about $7.0Bn in cash at the moment, taking that out the company stock value is only $2.0Bn. This is about the value of the raw materials and stock of unsold cars that it has. So the intellectual property, branding etc is worth .... zero. It looks like a zombie company. Bezos could buy it for pocket change, but who would want to dip their toe into a start up industry where 99% of the players fail. I think Alex, videos like this will be become less relevant as these startups go to the wall. It will be a common narrative of over promising, under delivering, and not treating customers and the media fairly along their way to failure. If you're a Rivian customer, I feel sorry for you. I'd sell it in the most economically advantageous way possible. I imagine when Rivan goes to the wall the secondhand value of these things will sink even further.
People thought they would become rich like Tesla, that's their fault. Treated the media unfairly? BooHoo.

It used to be very interesting, but lately it seems the mission of the channel is to balance every EV UA-cam Channel, by focusing on all negative things that others don't talk about.

A few years ago, you frequently had interesting guests like Sandy Munro and Tom Moloughney, among others, but where did they go?
Lately, there's been a lot of repetition about how independent you are, while you play B-rolls and complain that manufacturers won't talk to you. The focus has shifted from "Electric" to: "Complain about why nobody wants to play with me".
Given how aggressively you respond to criticism, I can understand why manufacturers aren't interested in inviting you. When I see how critical Bjørn Nyland is when testing cars, I'm convinced there's more to it than just a few negative comments. He's important enough that manufacturers know his followers will hear about it if they make things difficult for him, and they also know: he'll often arrange cars from other sources, because it's more convenient, so they can't stop him anyway.
I have kept following, because I was hoping there would still be some interesting episodes, But you are probably right, there's no reason to hope you'll come back with interesting episodes like you used to do.

Owned different brands of cars for over 45 years… may know a little about customer service. Perhaps my experience with Rivian is unique… or perhaps yours is. Obviously, from your position as a UA-cam influencer provided a source experience once. I do notice that you include some very-ICE biased interviews. Thought that was counter to your channel premise. Anyway, was a subscriber and enjoyed your channel but this hatred has disappointed and is discouraging.

Most of the Rivians sell for around $80,000 right? The company says they loose money on every one at $80,000. Now they are going to start selling new LOWER PRICED models for around $40,000. If they can't make a profit at $80,000; why would they suddenly start making one at $40,000? How long can you stay in business when you are losing money on everything you sell?

You don’t seem to understand how a manufacturing business works. Your R&D costs are factored into each vehicle.
As an employee of the company I think you don’t understand that they don’t just sell the vehicles and there are revenue streams outside of the manufacturing or even sales of companion products. It’s a simple tease as many companies operate to make money outside of what is obvious to the public eye.
The answer is simple, volume. The more units you sell, makes it easier to scale cost down for something called cash flow and revenue.
