I love how she elevates the students to an astronomical level bringing out the best in the students to the point they stunned they had that in them.. must be life changing for them!
The teaching method of Joyce Didonato is very fine and it is wonderful over fine details. Upon receiving her teaching, everyone improves like a different person at one time.
I am very impressed with J's work with basso....I was informed beyond "singing" and found myself smiling as the character of Basilio grew before my ears and eyes. She put in some serious and caring work...rather than just doing a star turn at a Master's class. This was a serious teacher caring about student and the piece coming alive. Brava!!!!
Oh wow. Anthony, that sound is incredible; & that is how you do it! Great work sir. And by the way, that pianist, OMG'oodness, Justina Lee, is a sharp cookie. She plays beautifully, & she is definitely on her J.O.B. Fantastic work you guys!
Amazed by the way she makes this aria something that connects great techniques and emotion, she´s humble saying she´s not a pedagogue, i wish a lot of people in any field could take example from her..... empathy, funny, specific, wow, i love her. Congrats to Anthony as he integrates with speed the insights and tips, to make this aria unique.....
A note to Carnegie Hall: on 0:14 it says that Anthony Robin Schneider is a "soprano" - and I am pretty sure that it is not Adam Nielsen playing the piano
Hmmmm - 9:50 onwards, where he talks about "cruising" at the opening of an audition. I hope he got from JdD that "cruising" is never an option for someone who wants to be an artist, not just a voice.......... He said that "la Calunnia" is often his second piece - but if you've started on cruise, you'll often continue on cruise (which I think he does, throughout). Sure, it's fine to give a first piece that sits well in your voice, lets you shake the nerves out, doesn't take the voice straightaway to your tricky spots; but I hate to hear the word "cruise" in relation to any piece in any audition! One a cruiser, always a cruiser.......
she is doing the work of a stage director. This young man doesn't know how he can use his voice economicly, struggling with all higher tones. She leaves him alone with this problem.
POVERO RAGAZZO ! O TEMPORA O MORES !!!!
he has such a great talking voice, when he sings his voice is really stiff... what Joyce Di Donato is teaching is absolutely right, but he need someone who work with him on vocal quality. When he say "ya" we can hear a phantastic bass voice, but the next moment his singing remains more to a boring baritone (i don't dislike barotone, but bad baritones 😈)
Mediocre? She's deservedly at the top of the operatic world. Don't put her in the same class as Netrebko. And you'll notice she's working on expression and not technique, though that wouldn't be a crime. Get a clue.

I think THIS is my favorite Joyce Master Class. SOoooo much great teaching and learning here. I keep coming back to watch and listen.
Thank you for watching this master class with Joyce DiDonato. We're delighted to know that you find it beneficial.

Joyce’s funny and sweet personality is just as lovely as her amazing talent in singing and performance.
12:50 I totally agree with her. Ferruccio Furlanetto ... also my favorite Leporello and Filippo too.
That Meryl Streep reference just made what was already perfect even more iconic!
Where? Didn’t catch it
A note to Carnegie Hall: on 0:14 it says that Anthony Robin Schneider is a "soprano" - and I am pretty sure that it is not Adam Nielsen playing the piano
Didonato is a genius
This makes me feel in love with opera all over again.
Joyce is awesome!!!!
In the very beginning of the video, they wrote "Anthony Robin Schneider, Soprano." HAHA. He's far from a soprano.
I did a double take for a moment there
Furlanetto is the Basilio gold standard, vocally and acting.
Joyce is such an actress and interpreter. What she lacks in vocal beauty, she makes up in interpretation and intelligence.
Beautiful young basso !Wish him starry carrier.
Tremendous , what an improvement this young makes .
Joyce grande maestra.
Not quite a soprano :D but it did sound lovely!
FOUND THE GEM TODAY
tks very much
We are glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for listening.
Have voice but no the artist soul thats is a gift one of million have it!! voices are many!!
great voice
ha ha ha

DDONATOS'S take on Bartolo is very funny....
Uma saborosa mistura de línguas 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
16:43 G'day! I'm confused. Why is Joyce pretending to be Basilio when Basilio is singing the aria?
I think she meant to say Bartolo
"stordire" means to stun, shock or dull the senses.
I think he is a bass-baritone, and his voice speaking remimds me George London
Here, my friends, we learn why "Rossini is not for the mediocre", to quote a famous conductor and Rossini specialist.
I'd love to see DiDonato work with Netrebko, Maybe she could make a singer out her.
OMFuckingG I died when I read this. But like same tho. I have no idea why Netrebko even has a career she is so fucking bad lol.
So true. Big singing is boring after 10 seconds. Of course that's not universal, but the sentiment is true. There is so much over-volumizing in opera.
Great voice, beautiful and warm like velvet, but this bass lacks thoracic development to expand its capacity and vocal quality.
Funny how she did not use Giulio Neri as an example.
Lol
Or Tancredi Pasero.
she is doing the work of a stage director. This young man doesn't know how he can use his voice economicly, struggling with all higher tones.
She leaves him alone with this problem.
Those boots are a horrible mistake, but what an amazing masterclass! Joyce is just perfect! 💜😢

Chill out, buddy.
he's absolutely right.
the whole thing is sad

Too much of "buffo"-acting without enough of "basso"-sounding...
He sounds way better when speaking than when singing :(
His speaking voice is gorgeous... his singing voice. It needs some work.
Which is exactly what he's doing...working on it.
His voice is fine. As Joyce said, he could work.
Sill bass. lol

I respectfully disagree with everything you have stated.
a german singing italian still sounds a bit chopperish…!
I'm waiting for your perfect performance of the same piece
mediocre bass...
Why so
I am a bit concerned about Joyce Di Donato's shirt/dress , that gives me the impression that she has forgotten to finish dressing .
Lucky she doesn't have to consult you before getting dressed. It's 2019, we stopped telling women how dress long ago.
very bad dressed. Who had the idea?
Its redicoulous to see a mdiocre singer as DiDonato is to teach a BASS!!!!!!
