Even in the replay @9:38, you can see that you hit the ball away. Between the invisible dude and things like ghost hits, the game is just not as fun as it once was.
the game has always been like that when you’re closer to the ball than the car but the car is going faster than the ball so it demos you before you hit the ball away.
