north nomads life in brutal cold with kids and reindeer

  • The real life of north nomads is not always romantic. The same with Chukchi nomads. The way they eat, sleep, work... Everything is absolutely strange for western people.
    Huge part of the life and work is reindeer taming. They teach animals how to run in reindeer teams. This is very hard and long process for both - for human and reindeer.

    What a shame after centuries living this way they still dont understand how to gain trust of an animal. Thry force and batter rather than develop a relationship.
    The child in her deerskin overalls was very adorable. They all work very hard.

    This people is extraordinary as the have to face a lot of difficulties during their life, even how to tame reindeer, besides living in a very harsh environment. They are truly to be admired. Great video, as usual. Thank you very much.

    I do feel sad for the reindeer it seems harsh and painful when they are training and having the antlers cut off etc. I know it is part of life and a way to continue the life

    It seems no matter where you look, there's always gonna be people treating animals like tools with no feelings or soul. It wouldn't ruin their traditions to just treat the reindeer with some compassion... at least they have a reason I guess, can't say the same for the horse industry.

    For the people who make these short docs I am really curious about several things. Maybe it’s an idea to expand on documenting these nomads. Who do they marry? Where do they go shopping to buy their things, food and supplies? Why don’t they leave this place? How is child bearing / delivery there, and what about sick people needing meds and hospitals? How do they burry their dead and do they have a religion? Where are the other nomads/ neighbors?

    Here in North Canadian Arctic, our reindeer herders still speak their native language and preserve their culture. They use modern materials to live a native live. Does this family speak and teach native traditions? I have seen videos where they are working for the government and it a job. I was just wondering about the differences. Thank you. Love your videos.

    • @puffkat68
      @puffkat68 Рік тому +3

      @Patrushevs here, many people who left are funding people who want to return. Our natives have the same shelters but have sled dogs, skidoos, solar power, and cell service. But they live according to their beliefs. The reindeer feed and provide them with money. They make things to sell out of ivory that only they can. Only natives can work ivory for sale in Canada. We get cold weather -50c but -70c, no thanks. I love your videos, and I can't wait to make time to watch when I see a new one. Keep it up, great job.

      I'm from Canada myself but I'm down in southwestern Ontario. I have noticed due to global warming, our winters are far too warm compared to what they once were. We've only had about 3-4 snowfalls and two ice storms and we're already into March. It honestly worries and saddens me at the same time because growing up we had snow on the ground from Oct-Apr or May. We have very little snow on the ground now, it'll be gone tomorrow again at 3°. Just had to say something because I'm wondering if you've noticed any difference up North?

    • @puffkat68
      @puffkat68 Рік тому +2

      @🌸Corrie🌸 it has changed drastically in the past 10 years. It has been changing slowly for the 25 years i have been an adult, but for the last 10 years, it has been getting bad. There was a year about 7 years ago, and we hardly had any frost. The winter just took forever to get settled in, by the time it did, it was spring. The animals have the most issues. They are built for the tundra, warm winters cause issues. I love channels like these, it spreads different cultures.
