Bellingham hasn't been playing well in the second half of the season. He should have had 3 goals tonight.
I think it was more entertaining and proactive today. The problem is we conceded 2 goals, so Southgate is probably already resigned to going back to being more defensive.

Haaland looked like he couldn’t be bothered to play for Norway the past two games. The top players are more focused on staying healthy for the home stretch of their club seasons. Their level of play will be much higher for their national teams in the actual tournament.

As Villa fan, I hate to say it especially as Watkins had a hand in the keeping the ball alive for the 2nd goal, thats exactly the quality Watkins brings but if I had to choose one additional forward right now I wld select Toney. England miss an orchestrator from central mid. Specific to this match, Rice was all back and sideways with his passing; What a talent that Mainoo kid is! He was the key source of creativity for his side. Keeps the ball well and distributes it brilliantly.

It is blindingly obvious that the defence is England's problem, and its far too easy for any reasonable team to go straight through it.
We have a wealth of talent everywhere else.
Pretty much the defence from the last euros and that was a miserly unit. The conundrum for GS is guarding against the lack of pace at the back (Walker the exception) and it’s looking like he might have a left back problem to add so I don’t expect him to trust an unproven left side defender alongside Chilwell.
And I think the Brazil game proves why he prefers to have 2 in front of the centre backs. Clearly, Gallagher isn’t a solution, so it’s either Henderson, Phillips or Mainoo.

I like both players, as a Villa fan I do agree that Watkins overall is a better team player but he is too close in style to Kane, whereas Toney offers a different offense option. So if I had to choose just one additional forward player, it wld be Toney too.

England had the easiest pathway in the last 2 big tournaments. Far easier than any other major favourite. And they bottled it twice.

Majority of you didn't watch the whole match, but I did. England did well in this match, played with possession in mind, they would need to remove Dunk and get Gomes as first choice partner with Stone, it' should be 2:1 England.
Engand also has Kane and Saka not playing.
With that in mind, England should use Madrid formula in the front (Bellingham + Saka + Foden ) adding Kane in the leading line to put opposition back line. Rice has to prepare his physie , Mainoo would be good assset to open option for the front 4.
England is winning nothing with Southgate in charge. This is a fact of life.

I haven’t been following Belgium in the qualifiers, are you saying that this is the Coach’s starting squad for the Finals.
England did not look dangerous because we were lacking 3/4 of our A team. There was very little venom left with key wingers and our main striker out. Our entire defensive line was out injured so this is probably the best chance to try some new talent. Thats probably why southgate took this friendly as a chance to try out a few newbies - because we need replacements. Especially for Kane.
So of course we are going to look weak - it was a weak team by design for the sole reason it's a friendly. What we did get from this game and the one agaisnt Brazil is that we have some newbies coming through, Bowen, Gordon and Mainoo were looking pretty solid andneed some experiance under their belt with Toney not looking too shabby.
How else are you going to bring up the new guys if you keep relying of the A team for everything? this was an oppotunity to see our own weaknesses and try and fix them before the big games.
the game expose how desperate we are for backups for key players, I am not fan of his managment style on the pitch, but in this case I can certainly appreciate the fact he was attempting to prepare us for losing big names. Its something we have to be ready for in 3 months time.
We know Madison can replace bellingham if need be, which is why he was kept in, and we are learning that Bowen could - with time, take sakas place. We are learning that the new defenders need more experiance and time with the vets and we saw that without Kane we are lacking finishers. These are all things a good manager would have noted ater these two matches.
These last two games were meant to be a learning experiance, winning would have been nice, but whats really at stake aside bragging rights? France conceded in the first 7 seconds to a weak german team but i can't see anyone giving them a verbal kicking for it. If it was England we would be SLAMMED by everyone.
We need to be ready for anything int he Euros, and at least now the new guys have a taste of top level international games. better now than at the euros

Really, There is no debate about Maguire. Anyone but him is the answer. He is so slow. I'd call him a dinosaur but he's a giant5 tortoise. Branthwaite should have had the chance in these friendlies. Now we are all guessing if he does get used. He plays well for the U21s. Joe Gomez was excellent when he came on. I watched this game on replay because I watched the brilliant U21 game against Luxembourg. I watch most of the U21 England games. They are so much better than full England games. They've scored 20 goals in their last three games. They go for it. Carsley has them playing excellent football.. England's future is bright, it's the U21s. Young McAtee and Elliott were fantastic in the middle of the park. Rico Lewis has played excellently for them when he's fit. They are so much more creative than Southgate's team. One bad result against Ukraine. We were out of sorts in that game. Please talk about the best England team more, the U21s.
Think you have to be a buffoon to blame Southgate for this performance. First goal was given to Belgium from Pickford and Dunk essentially gave them their second goal, albeit from a great pass from Lukaku. I get calling out the Brazil performance, but England did well here if not for the boneheaded mistakes.

How has Southgate not given Cole Palmer any minutes?! There’s 3 English attacking midfielders in the premier league that have been head and shoulders above the others and that’s Saka, Foden & Palmer. Palmer is not going to get picked for the euros squad and it will be a huge miss for England
The full defence needs to go id rather have a group of young rapid CB's than dunk and maguire and Chiswell who can't pass a ball. I'd swap pickford straight out he can't pass a ball either.
