  • When it comes to proven midlevel pearls, few balls can top the !Q Tour Ruby and Phase V. Look around your local bowling center or on Tour, and the proof is in the numbers. But now a new contender has risen to challenge the throne: the Deadly Rattler, from Radical. Ben Leong returns to compare all three. Will this HK22-wrapped contender find a spot in his bag?

    Being a Motiv guy the original Rattler was identical to the Venom Shock (15lbs RG 2.48 Diff .034) and now this "pearl version" has literally the same numbers as the Fatal Venom (15lbs 2.48 RG Diff .034) and if you look at the weight blocks that have "similar" shapes (I use that term loosely). Again each brand has its "proprietary" technology and what really matters is does the ball you buy give your eye the look you want to see. I appreciated your comparisons given that you prefer Storm; that is what you will lean into and that is great insight to give those who don't use other brands. I've thrown them all ("brands") I don't see one as being better than the other I see them as which one matches up with my style better than the others. I like be block symmetrical pieces (Motiv Staple, the gear core (Venom Shock) has been in 10 different Motiv balls). Unfortunately, the house I'm bowling in right now prefers small block asymmetrical lol. Keep up the good work!

      We super appreciate all of that--thanks! We're definitely trying to provide a wide look at how different brands and balls measure up, and not so much proclaim any ball to be good or bad--just different, especially for different bowling styles. Are there any balls you'd like to see us tackle in the near future?

    Thought this was a very good review with one exception. The length of 19.06 min./sec. was over kill for a ball review. But, again a good review.

      Good feedback! I'll make sure to cut them down a bit going forward. We're still in the "experimenting and trial and error" stage. But we really appreciate the note!

    Thinking this will be a great addition as a weaker ball especially drilled pin down for the nights when the lanes are just playing different against you. Radical bowling balls have become my first choice of ball to roll in 2023 , the HK 22 base is perfect for my game. Katana Strike Assault easily my 2 favorite bowling balls right now !

      I agree--when it feels like lane friction starts fighting you in jumpy ways, and you still need a cleaner option to get through the front, the Deadly Rattler does a fantastic job of blending everything out.

    New to your channel and I am enjoying your reviews with comparisons of other brands. Not being a Storm Inc. fan I do like how different balls stack up. I appreciate that and thanks. This Deadly Rattler looks real good.

      Much appreciated! Glad we're able to provide some comparisons of different brands and balls against each other. Are there any you'd like to see in the future?

    great vids WSB - I really did want to see how this matched with IQT pearl - I have the Emerald and love it - the Deadly Rattler does appear to have more of a control shape which is a good thing. Might make a good compliment when the Emerald is getting a bit too far down lane or is lacking oomph
    Q approves ;)

      Thanks for the comment--we super appreciate it. Yeah we'd definitely see the Deadly Rattler being an excellent compliment to the Emerald. Anything else specifically you'd like us to test out?

    I have a phaze V , and when I go to it , it's absolutely dependable. I haven't seen many ruby's out at tournaments yet , but the rattler has a good shape going through the pins , could be a good later in the blocks piece of equipment

      Yeah, the Deadly Rattler probably isn't the best as the first ball out of the bag on most fresh conditions, but it's definitely one of the best balls we've seen during those in-between times midway of Game 2 and beyond. Phase V is phenomenal at that as well.

    just bought this used off ebay for my first ball ever, pretty hyped to test it out. how will this work on house lanes

      I thought it rolled pretty dang good on a house shot. It's pretty rolly, so it does a good job controlling the blend of friction and oil

    I watch many bowling YT videos and came across your channel. I really like your content and style. Your analogies and explanations are very helpful and informative. I appreciate your cross brand comparisons. My arsenal is mainly SPI, but I do shop and buy other brands. Only thing with SPI brand, I either match up perfectly or it’s a total dude for me. This may be true with all brands. I will watch more of your vids. I need to replace my Dark Code with something similar. I loved that ball, but I’ve tried everything surface wise, it just lost its original shape. Any ideas?

      Thanks for the kind words! We're really glad you've found us--looking forward to getting you more content as time goes on. As for a good Dark Code replacement, I haven't seen anything that's a close match... or at least nothing yet. My Virtual Energy Blackout, while another shiny black asymmetric ball, seems to be a bit sharper than my Dark Code. I was able to make the Blackout a little smoother by adding some surface, so that might be something you could try too. I'd probably recommend surfacing a Blackout to 2000 and then getting some lane shine--that might start looking similar to the Dark Code.

    What is Ben’s favorite storm scent?

    • @wsbproshop
      @wsbproshop  10 місяців тому +2

      Good question, ha. My top 3 are Vanilla Citrus from the Lucid circa 2012, Spearmint from the Marvel S circa 2013, and Grape Punch off a fresh out of the box Hy-Road Pearl.

    Don't the Ruby and P5 have the exact same R2S Cover? I don't recall any mention of different additives between the two as you mentioned?

    • @wsbproshop
      @wsbproshop  10 місяців тому

      You're totally correct, ha. I was talking about the core, and rather than articulating the density in material differences between the weight blocks, I used the word "additives." Thanks for the catch!
