A few years ago, at my college, they installed a proxy server. It really sped things up for everyone due to the proxy cache. Hey everyone! Just wanted to drop a quick note that a proxy, similar to a VPN, can actually enable encrypted transmission. A prime example is a reverse proxy. A reverse proxy acts as an intermediary between a client (like your computer) and a server. When you connect to a website through a reverse proxy, the entire data traffic between you and the reverse proxy gets encrypted. That way, your data stays protected from potential attackers. So yeah, a proxy can totally deliver encrypted transmission, especially a reverse proxy. Just thought I'd share! 🚀

A proxy does NOT necessarily hide your actual IP address! Depending on the configuration of course, the originating IP is often reported in (http) headers. Don't blindly trust a proxy server you don't have full control over.
So if the proxy server doesn’t encrypt traffic, can you configure it to connect to VPN? So your request goes to the proxy, and it’s request goes over the VPN?
When you use a proxy, your IP address is invisible for the server who has the information you requested but not for the proxy server. The proxy itself is safe but the big question, do you trust the proxy sever ?
I love how you talk about NordVPN being so secure, when in reality, a couple of months since this video was released, it was announced that a NordVPN's server was breached.
@@Juzimaster Well, a vpn is useful if you want to hide your location, but that encryption thing isn't as useful if the website which you are going through is already encrypted (https websites), but a double encryption is always great.

Nice video, have few questions after watching: - in pros you are talking about privacy and minute later you said that with activity logging basicly everything is being monitored so how can it both private and monitored in same time? - you also said that it gives privacy but later you said that it does not encrypt data so everything can be traced by hacker/gov ? So does it make sense to go for proxy server as private user? Or private person should only go for vpn? Thank you in advance for response
"in pros you are talking about privacy and minute later you said that with activity logging basically everything is being monitored so how can it both private and monitored in same time" answer: private as the website only sees the proxy servers public ip not your computers or device that's using proxy to see the website. Proxy has ability to monitor what websites you used and for how long etc which is how companies see if employees are on Facebook all day. Proxy hides your public ip and sends out theirs and has ability to do activity logging. "you also said that it gives privacy but later you said that it does not encrypt data so everything can be traced by hacker/gov" answer: again proxy hides your public device ip with its own so website etc thinks its the proxy checking it out not you and by encryption means that data can be captured by middle man and seen with plaintext as its not encrypted. So does it make sense to go for proxy server as private user? Or private person should only go for vpn? VPN, Proxy server are good for companies or large organizations for help speed look ups of websites since proxy saves cache of websites and also has activity logging.

Late reply. From what I could get you're referring VPN as VPN services like NordVPN and the others not the actual VPN protocol. So basically VPN services are just proxies but in order to access the proxy and forward your internet traffic to it you need to establish a VPN connection which in turn encrypts the traffic between your device and the proxy server.

Wha? A proxy can absolutely encrypt the data utilizing another certificate. This is called break and inspect. -edit- The client of the proxy must trust the proxies certificate in order for this to work but would allow for encrypted traffic and troubleshooting from a network administrator.
Ok, but, if I visit a News website, and this type o website changes content every time per day, if the proxy store this website in the cache, it means that the next person (same network) that will access the same website, will have the “old” version, I mean, with no updated content??
Not all proxies are anonymous proxies. Some are passing oryginal ip in http header. Also proxy owner is also aware which ip is connecting to it. So.... anonymous - not always

I dont see how proxy servers send unencrypted stuff to the web. Your computer already does that when it sends the request to the proxy or internet or wherever. VPN's also frequently advertise no logging, but there have been many law suits where VPN providers had to turn in logs and did so even though they advertised otherwise. Also, your ISP company can no longer look at where you are browsing. The VPN company still can. So it is a question of who you trust more, your VPN provider of choice or your ISP. If the company you work for employs its own VPN, then that is an actual benefit, from a security and a privacy perspective. Because the browsing you do can only be seen by the company you're doing that browsing for. VPN's are useful for dodging region locks on series that you want to watch, or if you travel a lot
VPN is not the be all and end all of unanimity. The VPN servers will know what your IP is. Most VPN's *promise* that they won't and don't keep logs. To *promise* is not good enough, like Google's *do no evil*. Furthermore Governments can and do force VPN's to make their data available or instruct them to start keep log, etc. This video explains the proxy server fined but treated the VPN to lightly.
And not all VPNs truly hide your identity like the one that this channel recommends. They have been in the news over the years for handing over records. So if this concerns you, evaluate other providers.
I think the only benefit of using Proxy server is to manage internet transaction like blocking certain websites or viewing people activity on local network. Because the the cached and saves bandwidth you mentioned it can came also from using web server, Right? Also I think it doesn't protect my privacy because the data doesn't encrypted also it just hide my private ip address and shows to the internet another ip (public), so anyone have my public ip address can actually get to me, Right?
Since the video is sponsored you won't tell that VPN makes browsing slow. But I have a genuine question: Browsing with Proxy + VPN is still faster than VPN alone and slightly slower than using nothing?
If you're logging into your personal accounts on google and social media, they still know who the hell you are and what you're going around the web. They don't need your IP address to know that.
I really don't trust VPN or proxy is, because I don't trust the people who are serving up the servers. A lot of VPN say they keep no logs, but is that true? Same with proxies.I just need to setup a VPN from my house to my mobile phone. That's really all I care about.
John 3:16-21 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God

I made these animated graphics in 1999 in Flash for Techtionary.com. Small world. The animations are now more complex and the word PROXY was added.
For one time i actually like my dads incredibly strict proxy, because it actually blocks some of my school's online stuff
Not all proxies are anonymous proxies. Some are passing oryginal ip in http header. Also proxy owner is also aware which ip is connecting to it. So.... anonymous - not always
Give IPcola a try, it's a brand-new resource for residential IP proxies//
silva Sandoval born 05161987, graduate 08/2015, studied ongoing until I was almost murdered, infosec, web app hacking (freelance focused) buprsuite and intro coding front-end , bash, Dell cos configured with manjaro uefi up to date , 3 weeks prior to intel disclosing aslr vuln, I get hit with this exploit during capsules update, pawned and found agent x was used to depopulate. Rsync caught actual etc configs in process of persistence.
Wow! Thanks for the explaination. Now I have a better understanding between VPNs and a Proxy Server.
I just watched a 4 minute and 42 second advertisement. What is my life?
Fun fact ..This video was sponsored by NORD VPN ..🤪
I really don't trust VPN or proxy is, because I don't trust the people who are serving up the servers. A lot of VPN say they keep no logs, but is that true? Same with proxies.I just need to setup a VPN from my house to my mobile phone. That's really all I care about.
John 3:16-21
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God
so when using an organizational network that uses a proxy and you are also using a VPN .can the organization perform logging?
Can hackers hack those inside the VPN and can gain access?who are the owners of vpn?can I made my own vpn?can hackers made their own vpn and use it as fake us like Nord VPN?haha I have many questions hypothetically.
VPN also will protect you from doing illegal stuff online
Great video, but the "no-encryption" point is bulls*it, almost every site now uses https, so afaik there literally is no advantage of VPN over a proxy for https connections.
Asking for a friend. He is overseas but wants to work from home for companies based on USA that only hire people whiting the states. Can he make it look like he's in the states with a proxy server? If yes, how?
Somehow I did not understand the Caching concept.. What if the web page is enhanced with new functionalities.. other computers would get the old version unless the proxy finds that returns a new version..
Private LAN IP addresses are not routable over the internet. The gateway encapsulates its IP and MAC address do go out to the internet cloud. However great explanations on a proxy server.
I really like these Videos, as they help us programing duds, to actually Understand what these Items really do, with photos & Video's... I used Nord in the past and they are great, and you chose what country that you want to sign in at.. And they answer questions Fast, and don't treat you like a dummy....
Hi,
Good animation and technology explanation.
Can I pick your brain on proxy technology please? Do you know if SMTP/25 & 587 traffic will be proxied when configured or only TCP/80 & 443?
If few websites or applications are restricted then how to allow from proxy server ??? Please explain how to add the URLs in proxy server ??
