Eiri was not really a god, as Lain said to him he couldn't be a god because for him to be one he needed the wired and the wired needed to exist beforehand, meaning there was a god, but this god was not Eiri. But you could say Lain serves a purpose similar to an angel in the anime
@@leonjack14 Lain Usurps god and kills 'god' you are a fool- she serves the purpose of the protagonist that kills the false 'god' In the end she takes his role as 'god' of the wired- and abdicates her life in the real world. Abandoning her body to become one with the wired- while her original ego fulfills what she sees as the most 'ideal' outcome to the story- her erasure, ensuring that the 'god' that she killed never arises, and sacrificing herself to replace his vacant position as a 'god'. Lain proves he wasn't a 'god' because she existed- and was more powerful than him, due to her originally being a human and thus capable of existing without the wired- however she abandons her humanity and becomes one with the wired/internet allegory- thus becoming something more while simultaneously losing her human side...
@@leonjack14 No shit, thats the poooint- she proves he isn't and usurps his throne of 'godhood' the whole anime is an allegory for the god of the internet- and she becomes it and the end- the point where she has powers enough to completely re-write reality, not just the 'wired/internet' you are fool if you think that doesn't amount to some kind of -goddess/godhood- When you think of esoteric ideas like godhood or goddesses and their powers and what not- lain pretty much fits the description perfectly, infact the real god that most people pray to- fails to meet what she does in her anime pretty easily, since miracles mostly turn out to be easily explainable through science or deduction or random chance...
Groovy
Lain unironically kills 'heaven' and god in her anime

@@WelcomeToDERPLAND That's not it since she does reference God and how there is a god (besides Eiri) even before ascending, but whatever
Eiri was never a god and that's what Lain said to him
