Hi all! Stats: Ride time: 4 hours 41 mins. Elevation: 2100ft. Quite a flat ride no huge hills! How’s everyone doing? What kinda range you all getting from your ebikes? Let me know below 🤘

Ian Straughier hi Ian. The BMS inside the batteries are designed to protect the cells from being totally depleted. So not a issue running to empty, just don’t leave it in a discharged state for too long. Ideally, top back up to around 60% if it’s going to be a while until next ride. I never bother with that ideal stuff. I just charge and ride!

BTW I spent a whole day last year in Afan Forest on a demo Scott Genius with the Bosch Gen 4 system 625 Wh battery and only used 1 bar of battery in ECO mode. Still gave me loads of assistance up some very steep technical climbs.

Just got my 2020 Turbo Levo Expert Carbon last Friday. Did already more then 100 miles with it. Longest ride on trail setting was 37 miles with 4000ft of elevation.
Conditions where very muddy and wet. Loved every bit of it.
      Cheers from Germany

In Canadian Winter so far (-10C to -25C with +20kph to 45kph winds +10cm to 30cm of snow) on my Turbo Levo S-Works FSR I travel 25kms to work and back home, using the trail mode with 50% suppport/75% peak power/100% acceleration response/6% shuttle tunes, with a borderline weight of 120kgs (full gear+backpack) using close to 30-35% battery everyday so it last me 3 days for a run of 75kms total (46miles)...summer is different, like 1km per 1%Wh or so (90-100kms)...only red lights kill my battery life while waiting more than winter itself

My longest ride so far on my 2020 Specialized Turbo Levo Comp is 61.85km 1,311m elevation 3hrs 45mins. I used a mixture of Eco at 20% & Trail at 35%. I'm unfortunately 112kg at the moment 😭 I was aiming for 70km but unfortunately the motor died!! Luckily she was under warranty. She's got a new motor now & I'm ready to tackle my goal again 😎

It may not have been a "scientific" test, but it is certainly an excellent real world example under less than ideal conditions. Rob, you mentioned that it was your hope that you inspire people to get out and ride. I have owned a traditional mountain bike and while I do enjoy it, the effort required would often limit my range and scope of terrain. Your videos convinced me to invest in an ebike as an early Christmas gift to myself. Long story short, I ended up buying TWO ebikes! A Commencal full suspension and a Commencal hardtail. I just turned 64 years old. These bikes have effectively erased the earlier limitations of riding my traditional bike. It feels like I'm thirty years old again! It's about as much fun as a man can have with his pants on. Cheers!

Im so inspired to get out there and shred, love your channel and then I began to notice I actually recognise the places. Seeing my local playground in your videos gives me even more reason to watch your chanel. So less Scotland and Bike park Wales and more Ceasars camp, 4a jumps, Minley woods etc. As a kid a I cycled across a frozen Hawley lake. Just love Hawley/Minley woods still finding new spots there after 40 years of mucking around that area. Got my first ebike on order set to arrive on my 57th Birthday this Aug. Literally counting the days now. As ive not been able to MTB for over a year now after getting my MTB stolen.

Hey Rob Rides Emtb! My bike is even less efficient than yours with 4 inch tires at 5 psi so I got 28.6 km from my 500 wh battery in Emtb and turbo modes when I tried to wear the battery down completely! The ride before that was the one of the best I've ever had because I was riding through 40 cm lite powder snow! It was extremely rare snow for Vancouver area because we usually get wet sloppy snow that is very heavy! I only did 7.4 km because of the snow resistance was maxed out but my fun level was also maxed! Good to see you out on your kenevo so keep these great vids coming! Ride ride ride!

I bought the first gen Kenevo with the 460wh battery. Drove it home from the shop 118km in about 5.5hours over roads, trails and through the woods. 1100m of elevation up and down again. Battery had 74%. It died around 5km before arriving home. then i bought a gen2 kenevo with 504wh, it rides much better with the marzocchi bomber fork and air damper, longer wheelbase, but the engine uses more power (old one was specialized 1.2e) and the most i get with both bikes is around 25km distance with 1400m elevation. then the battery is empty. Now i will get the new one with a 700wh battery and check again.

I have a 2019 turbo levo with a 500watt battery, I upgraded the suspension to 2020 fox factory forks and shock, and Maxxis Minion DH tires. 90% of my riding is 25% of eco mode because I want to sweat and get in shape. I have more range than I will ever need ( about 40 miles in winter ) I noticed a 15% reduction in range with the Maxxis DH compared to the factory tires. I'm an old man at 71years old. Love your channel! It has helped me a great deal. Thank you very much! ( I know that my bike is way more than I need or can handle but it's so much fun!

The bike can take a really long ride super well, and in good conditions, i think it would handle 80km of riding (at least with my experience).

On this day we were out on a medium pace ride with an avg of 21.2km/h.

@@RobRidesEMTB A "typical" group ride (we do these every weekend) would be 35-50km with a climb of between 600-900m where I would typically have 20-25% left in the battery. Please bear in mind that our groups are "mixed" (analogue and e-mtb) so our pace is quite slow hence the high percentage of Eco which might affect my figures and give you a slightly exaggerated numbers... The only time I ran out of juice on my bike I had done about 45km and 1200m climb and it was a pacy ride as we all had e-bikes..

I'm going to try and do the Leeds and Liverpool canal in a day this year 127 miles. Tried it last year and my left pedal sheered off around 65 mile in! Also in need the right day, if it's too nice a day threes just too many people walking.

Specialized products are great. However, a couple glaring issues for me: 1st is at this crazy high car price and its still aluminum!!!! It should be carbon and have top of the line components for that ridiculous price. 2nd. FSR linkage is like 30 year old suspension design. Its ok but basic vs. VPP and DW link. Now others may disagree or not care about how plush an ebike is but to me suspension is still the heart of a mountain bike, not how powerful the motor is. Sure the motor on the Spec is very well developed, but like many of the other ebikes, very little attention to the suspension is made. Getting to the top is great with an ebike. But the ride quality down on technical trails is what to me really makes a great mountain bike.

Was there something wrong with the bike or battery? My E genius 700 tuned 500w will do 57 miles mix of road and trails (28 miles of serious tails 2x full laps of Gizburn Forrest) My cube reaction 500w hard tail with hope hoops, and thunder Burt tyres has done 91 miles and that still was not flat. with 700W and the type of trails it should have given you at least 40 miles.

The Specialized calculator comes up with 63km (39 Miles) for your height/weight and power setting, but allows for half as much again height than you did. So allowing for all of the conditions on your ride I'd say its not far off.

Does not seem a lot for a 700w/h battery Rob. I reckon the range on my my19 Levo on single track using mostly trail (50% assist) is c 30 to 35 miles. I am 78kg and the bike/tyres are stock. So is the Kenevo generally that much more demanding on battery?

    Hello Rob,
love the channel btw. I live 10 mins from swinley if u need an e bike friend 😊! is that bike derestricted? I just brought a Trek Powerfly 9.9 which I love, but the whole restricted to 25kms is starting to f&)k me off. There seems to be a lot resistance in the motor making it a lot of effort to peddle on flattish trails over 25kms? I hear you can derestrict motors but the newer Bosch motors are really hard to do? If you don’t ride it on a road I don’t see a problem. What are your views on this? I’m guessing you have to be careful on this subject 😬
    Cheers Adam

Hey Rob, good to see you testing the battery capacity as you stated wet condition and cold temp. I have a question in regard battery health, I'm riding a Turbo Levo expert 2018 model with a 504 WH capacity. bought the bike last year in May, I recharged the batter 39 times since may. Now it came to my attention that the mission control app do not show the actual battery health. I started to use the BLEvo app for better control and management. This app showed a % drop of 8% after fully charged compared with the mission control app.
I did the same test with on my spare battery bought a couple months later, (July 2019) no issue here both show 100% battery health. What do you use to test this, I'm interested to know. How does your local bike shop test this, I already contacted my local shop here in Brisbane and wait was comes back. What it means to my range that dropped from 504 to 463% capacity = reduced my range to ride.
    Regards
    Bisek - Brisbane AU
