Awesome job Hunter! Glad you included this part as I've never used a climber before and would likely do the same things. My son is 12 also. Hunter you have a good dad, listen to him.
Well that is great I hope you have a good time and enjoy it. Just remember if you need a refresher watch it again. Hey just take it out a few times this year and practice main thing is to get comfortable setting it up thanks for stopping by and watching we appreciate it
Those are awesome treestands. My son Jerod has a Summit Viper, but the only difference is his doesn't have the rail that you set on. So when climbing he has to put his arms on armrests and support his weight there when climbing and descending the tree. We don't use climbers a lot now, we all have ladder stands. My climbing treestand hasn't been used in probably 10 years. Great review and video. Juddie - J & J TOA

I bought a viper and got up about 15 feet and was worried to go higher because i could not tell in the dark of it was level or not. I never practiced i just went to the woods and up a tree. I watched enough videos now to know to pay attention tilt it a good bit and stop when its level. Bought a headlamp to make it easier lol. I was always a ladder stand person until a few years ago i bought a hang on to be mobile and the first time using it brand new the cable broke. Had it up 25ft up so thank god i started wearing a safety harness,y wife forced me to buy one and i was so hard headed and over confident because i have never had an issue.
Yes the headlamps are very important if setting up in the dark and we still use ladder stands some but always wear a safety harness thanks for watching I hope this video helped you
Planning on buying one of these tomorrow. It will be my first climber. Came to research how good of stands they are. Great video and very informative, thanks.
If you adjust the foot stirrups down so there isn't as much space between your boots and the stirrups you'll have much better control of the bottom part of the stand. Great video
Awesome I am glad to here this video helped you this is a great stand and very comfortable I hope you enjoy it and have a great deer season thanks for stopping by and watching
That really helped me out by watching this video but the big part is to buy one and do it myself. Bet that is a nice honey hole I hear the water in the back
I may get some flak for this but I think I may be the only person to hang the top part first, as high as I can reach, then the bottom. Its easier for me to slid up into position that way than fight with the bottom portion if I hang that 1st. To each their own! Best of luck this year to all!
You do have a point there I can see how that would be handy but I did that one time and didn’t put it high enough and hit it when putting my bottom on and it come down hit me in the head lol. Thanks for stopping by and watching and commenting love to here different ways to try though.
summit stands are great ,we have been using them for about 15 years ,i had a weld break on a viper and they shipped me a new one fast and return label to send old one back .we have switched to using goliath's by summit ,they give more room and are more comfortable when wearing coveralls or heavier hunting clothing. they are wider and deeper .just wish they had left the velcro covers on the arms and safety rail that the older ones had . the zip ties allow the foam to bunch up ,the plastic stirrup has a way of slipping a little but like it better than the rubber straps. they climb quiet all and all ,best stand i have used.
Good lesson! For me the hardest thing about the Summit Viper is packing it up. I could never figure out which piece goes in which. Your video (unlike the ones on the Summit website) explains it very simply. Put the seat down, then slide the footstand into it. I got a pair of padded shoulder straps for about $10, plus a molle belt, because mine came with this lame one-piece shoulderstrap thing that I could never figure out. I guess they expect most folks to DIY?
Nice job. Just a caution. I've been using the Summit climbers for a long time. They're excellent. After a lot of years of the first one I bought, an older style, it developed a crack that I had welded by a professional. He did what looked like an excellent job. To me, it looked stronger than it did new. I asked if he would guarantee it. His response, was "No. I'm not going to guarantee anything that will get you far enough up off the ground to kill yourself". My point is, once you get off the ground you're putting yourself in danger. Watch for stress cracks even in brand new stands. Check you stand over every time you use it. BTW, I've been using it for at about 10 years since he welded it. The only other problem I've ever had was, early one cold fall morning I was climbing a popple tree. About half way up I pulled up the top part and thinking it was firmly attached to the tree let loose and it slipped and dropped to about my ankles. It felt like like I was standing there with my pants down. I just picked it up and reset it but it scared me. Some trees, a smooth barked popple for instance, are simply not safe to climb. Pick a good rough/soft barked tree to climb. And in the winter you're not going to get as good a grip as during warmer temperatures.
@@joshandhuntersadventures5046 Well I just got one, finished assembling it and reviewing how to use it lol I'll be taking it out in the bush for a test run in like a week or so at the next opportunity, I'll be posting a video of that in my channel as well! Thanks again!
You probably figured this out already but for other hunters you want your stirrups to be lower and tighter to your feet for better control of your lower platform..It really helps on descending especially.
I have a couple summits and here’s some solid advice. Get the 3rd Hand Archery stabilizer straps and the viper becomes the safest tree stand ever made. Second, get the Hazmore silent seat and get rid of that seat that comes with the viper.
Thank you for the advice? What is the stabilizer straps and where do I purchase them. I have heard that surround seat they sell is a nice upgrade. Again thank you for these tips
Josh And Hunter’s Adventures the stabilizer straps attach the top and bottom together and pull down on the top so tight that you can lean against the top portion of the summit and it won’t even budge. Thirdhandarchery.com
@@joshandhuntersadventures5046 i have a summit I’d actually suggest the lone wolf stabilizing straps, they stay on there permanently, can use em to strap down your pack, and there $23 cheaper. Also no reason to get rid of that seat, it’s the most comfortable seat you’ll ever use
I've used hang on stands and ladders and now I don't. I use Summit climbers exclusively and they are amazing and convenient. Summit also recommends using bracing straps that will make their climbers much more stable. I don't go up a tree without those bracing straps and if you don't know what they are, find out.
To me its the wrong tree to go up or down just got to no the tilt ur toes down. But cool kid nice video buddy . I've got hrs in tree standing but he's learning how it goes . Ok thank u good wonderful video
I have another question, I'm just learning how to use this tree stand, I've got the bottom part working right, but I'm fighting with the top part, it keeps dropping on it's own. How do I stop that, it's making me very nervous.
Sounds like you may need to loosen the top up like it is to tight and not able to bite on the tree. Make sure to always tie the top and bottom together anymore questions please ask
When you set it up at the bottom of the tree, you never want it to be level or 90 degrees to the tree. Depending on how much the circumference of the tree shrinks as it gets higher will make the difference on your angle that you set up. Like an average tree, you'd want to start off at say 70 degrees. That way when you get up to where you're going to sit, it's going to be around 90. Never ever ever go below 90 degrees. Ever. That's how people fall. If you're at say a 100 degree to the tree, you lose the leverage you had and your weight is your enemy. There's a couple parts in this video where my butthole puckered cause I saw him doing it. But good rule of thumb, if you're ever in doubt either stop or go back to the bottom and adjust your cables.
Sounds like you have it to right watch how mine is setting on the tree and try it again. If you have any more questions I will try to answer them thank you for watching
I really have never climbed a pine tree I hunt hardwoods here in Tennessee I would think it would climb it fine other that the sap on the tree you should be good. It really is a great comfortable stand.
As you can see Hunter struggled with the climb down if you notice I told him to point his toes down to help make it easier. Is that what you are having trouble with?
@@joshandhuntersadventures5046 Yes, I used to use this stand years ago, & never had a problem! Been using the lone wolf sit & climb, but decided to start using the summit again after silencing the cables with vet tape. I will practice, thank you!
I’m terrified of heights my Uncle broke his back falling out of a tree stand back in the day so I think that’s part of it. Is there any advice anyone can give me to get over that? How safe are these climbers? I really want to start hunting next fall. Maybe I should just get a ground blind?
Well if you are going to use a tree stand you must use a safety harness cause that for one will save your life. Get a good one you can find them on sale this time of year. Thanks for stopping by and watching
These climbers can be extremely safe. The key to get confident with it is to get a good one that will handle your weight and then some. After that, practice only going a few feet up in the tree (as in 5 feet) and get confident with how to handle the stand and yourself. There is no hurry, and you should practice it to the point that you feel a bit bored. Once you are confident at that height then try going up to 10 feet. Again, get comfortable moving around, sitting, etc and when you are feeling good with it, repeat the process to the desired hieght. And yes, always wear a harness, they save lives!
@@brianvermeulen558 Awesome advice and I appreciate your response! I bought a ground blind for this year, but I’m definitely gonna try and get over my fear next hunting season. Slowly but surely..
I lost dropped my pin for my cable the other day & I can't find it! Something always goes wrong; now I need to find another pin with a clip or try finding the one I dropped in the leaves for the fourth time.
@@joshandhuntersadventures5046 I'm fortunate to be a Park Ranger & can hunt on the 2,000 acres we have. I think the best thing for me is to slow down when setting-up instead of rushing. Hunting season is still early here in Western MD, thankfully. Thanks & take care.
@@joshandhuntersadventures5046 I found it today around 430pm, towards the end of my shift. Thank goodness. Now I am ready to start fresh & hopefully get the nice 8 point that I have had an eye on for the past month. Thank you & good luck to you!
you guys ever take one of those climbers and get it up in there and then set climbing sticks to it to get up and down to it ?? - (these climbers are more comfortable than hang on stands but dont want to go through the climbing process each time of a climber stand so just use climbing sticks to it??)
This is a great stand, period! It's lightweight, climbs easy ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxlQ7TDIrnnSXXbRgFFaxqwullRJJIuYAs and feels solid while in the tree. The seat is easy to fold up for climbing and sits comfortably for long days in the woods. The only downside I have is that it might be too comfortable, but I like napping in the tree anyway. This is the second Summit Viper I have owned. The old one is steel making it heavier, but this aluminum version is about 9-10 lbs lighter. I recommend buying a better fall harness as the one included is clunky and not super comfortable. I think it will work fine if you NEED to use it, but there are lots of other more comfortable options out there.
My only criticism of these types of videos is that is doesnt show you with all your hunter gear as you arrive at the tree, be it bow or gun, your pack if items and how you manage that all going up the tree with you. I understand its a process as I have done it many times, but a complete video needs to include everything. Not just the stand and the climb. Respectfully, stated.
Well you won’t take all the stuff up the tree with you until you get to the spot where you won’t to be in the tree. You will have a pull rope to pull your bag up if you have one and your gun or bow. Never try to climb with your pack on or your weapon could end in a disaster.

@@lukel8045 I'm not sure what you are saying about being level and degree. Is this when you are setting up before ascending? Thanks for your time
good dad alert
Thank you I try to teach him the best I can thanks for watching we appreciate it
How do you know the angle to start and how tight to put the cable? Just tried my new one and found my foot platform slipping a lot
Sounds like you have it to right watch how mine is setting on the tree and try it again. If you have any more questions I will try to answer them thank you for watching
Nice video. How does the Viper work on pine trees?
I really have never climbed a pine tree I hunt hardwoods here in Tennessee I would think it would climb it fine other that the sap on the tree you should be good. It really is a great comfortable stand.
They work great on pine trees
@@neiloliver5317 not many pines in my area
Need to get one of those.
It sure changes the way you can hunt thanks for watching
Just started using my summit viper again, had no problem going up- climbing down was a challenge, are there any tricks to make the climb down easier?
As you can see Hunter struggled with the climb down if you notice I told him to point his toes down to help make it easier. Is that what you are having trouble with?
@@joshandhuntersadventures5046 Yes, I used to use this stand years ago, & never had a problem! Been using the lone wolf sit & climb, but decided to start using the summit again after silencing the cables with vet tape. I will practice, thank you!
You bet anytime
Going down is so much easier and faster imo. They are almaot to comfortable, enough to fall asleep
Yes going down is faster. And they are super comfortable. Thanks for watching
That isn’t good hopefully you can go back to the tree and find it. Keep us updated if not call summit and see if they can help you get one
@@billwhitacre703 thanks and good luck
@@joshandhuntersadventures5046 I found it today around 430pm, towards the end of my shift. Thank goodness. Now I am ready to start fresh & hopefully get the nice 8 point that I have had an eye on for the past month. Thank you & good luck to you!
@@billwhitacre703 awesome glad you found it
Produto a pronta entrega para o brasil?
Thanks for watching
you guys ever take one of those climbers and get it up in there and then set climbing sticks to it to get up and down to it ?? - (these climbers are more comfortable than hang on stands but dont want to go through the climbing process each time of a climber stand so just use climbing sticks to it??)
No never have I have heard people doing that though thanks for watching we really appreciate it
Tem a pronta entrega para o Brasil, qual o site oficial para pedido.?
Thanks for watching
These stands say 8-20 tree diameter. That tree has to be larger. So my question is, how much larger than 20 inches can you go?
Haven’t tried and have never measured to be honest I just find a tree and climb never had a problem
Needed to pitch it up just a fuzz more
Thanks for stopping by and watching we appreciate it
This is a great stand, period!
👍
I have killed so many deer in my summit I can’t count due to the comfort! Tried saddle hunting 1 year forget it went straight back to the summit!
It is very comfortable that is for sure never tried the saddle just can’t see how that is comfortable to set in for a long time
@@joshandhuntersadventures5046 saddle setup $500-$1000 weight by the time you add your ropes ropeman attachments the saddle sticks a mini platform your at 15 pounds minimum. To be uncomfortable, monkey with ropes. Skyline yourself horribly swinging out like tarzan! You move way more. You still need a limbless straight tree for the most part especially if you want to repel down. All to Stare at the tree bark for hours, Legs and feet kill after 2 hours Better not have to use the bathroom! It’s a giant Gimmick! 😂 Good hunting to you! Don’t waste your money on saddle hunting!
I have one. Too loud...last hunt I almost tossed it.
Sure you could sell it get some good money out of it if your not using post on market place it will sell quick
@Austin Roberson Got a saddle...never go back. Thanks for the info!
@Austin Roberson thanks for the tip never thought about that
Climbing up is easier than climbing down 😬
I agree it does seem that way
Are those poison oak vines on that tree? Aw hell no,I'm out.
Not that I am aware of I’m usually allergic to it didn’t bother me
