Good job troubleshooting a shorted armature, and it's good to know that the "blue" wire insulation can be problematic. Now, I need to file that in my AF Train repair knowledge, Thanks Austin!
I picked up a 302AC today with the blue wire insulation. Tore it and the tender down for cleaning, lube and it runs ok. The gears and brushes look like new. I may swap armatures to see if it runs any faster. Thanks again!
Great Video! I never knew how to measure the commutators. I learned something new today! Wow, I have never seen the side rods do that before. Great job on the 300 repair! I’ll finish watching the diesel repair later. Thanks for sharing! God Bless! CB
You do great work and keep learning things that are helpful to me. A year or so ago one of my 290 Pacifics screeched to a halt, for the same reason this Atlantic stopped for you. One of the crosshead guides was slightly too short and had jumped out of the slot, causing the side rod to bend. I still haven't found an extra crosshead guide long enough to replace the short one. Maybe the short one can be a replacement, should I ever need one, for my four piece Atlantic.
Learned a lot from your video. Do you know what gauge wire the coated copper on the magnetic assembly is on the AF 302? Mine broke and is worn. I can try and rewind or is there a supplier that sells new onesThank you
You are a good instructor and willing to show that we all have something to learn! Much appreciated!
Great teaching video. She runs like brand new. 😊

@@MarkWick we are both fortunate flyer side rods are metal and can be straightened.

Hey there. Did you 3d print your own test stand?
I did
@@AustinsAmericanFlyertrains cool. Is it a freely available design, or did you create yourself?
I make them and sell them.
