    Thank you very much for discussing the trials system. You have an invaluable insight. Also, I know that you love the music. So, thank you for leaving in the oarlock "battle rattle" at the finish. It gives this old man a frisson of youth. Finally, go easy with the merchandise this week, please. Save your energy for trials. The yam squad doesn't mind waiting a few extra days for the shirts. We just want you to do well (and you will)!

    I would like to buy any/all of the following in Yamsquad branded merch: (1) unisuit (2) thin winter hat like what nordic ski racers wear (3) calf length socks like what road cyclists wear (4) snap back trucker cap

    If you are confident you have the ability to beat the erg standard by say 10-15s, does it make sense to "only" beat it by ~5s and save a bit of energy for the 5K the next day? I guess it comes down to just how much weight is put on the two tests, right?

    • @CameronBuchan
      @CameronBuchan  5 років тому +1

      Exactly, depends on how the coaches view the 2k and the 5k!

    If you are successful in the trial, do you move across to Caversham? If so is it full time?

    • @CameronBuchan
      @CameronBuchan  5 років тому +2

      That's up to the coaches at Caversham. Most likely not

    How competitive are the trials between the rowers? I've seen Robson can go 5.48 on the 2km so will you be gunning for that, or is it all smiles and "yeah buddy" when you pull sub 6.05 regardless of who's faster? (After the puking ofc).
    Good luck. Hope we get to see some trials yammin'

    • @CameronBuchan
      @CameronBuchan  5 років тому +2

      Very competitive! More so between everyone that knows eachother. Bragging rights essentially, nothing really more than that. I'll be gunning for faster than the 2k from the weekend though!

    I had mental images of a “Rocky” moment at the conclusion of your trials. This is not what I expected! (coming from an American adult recreational rower...). Good luck anyway!

    Looks like the U23 lightweight 2K is a 6.35 and the open class is a 6.30, still pretty damn fast for lighties

    Have you ever considered to support the topics you talk about by graphics like charts etc. ? I think it would improve the quality and make it easier to follow your thoughts...

    • @CameronBuchan
      @CameronBuchan  5 років тому

      I have thought about it. I don't do it just based on time. I'm not going to spend another few hours everyday making graphics!

  • @frissenm

    "overweight"?? sounds like they need to shed weight :-)
    I checked the concept2 ranks and their definition of (mens) heavyweight is anyone above 72kg or so? Is that the same for " real" rowing? (in that case I think a lot of rowers are over/heavyweights?) Seems like a really arbitrary number?

    • @CameronBuchan
      @CameronBuchan  5 років тому +1

      Openweight. Below 72.5 is classified as lightweight, above is openweight, or heavyweight.
