Thank you so much! I've been trying to increase my grip strength, but I'm not to the point where I can do finger pull ups and I've needed an easier workout! This is great! -From a nerdy rock climber.
That was a lot of saw for one little dowel.... serving the rope with duct tape before cutting and cutting through tape and rope will keep the rope from fraying, and a more permanent and very effective serving for rope is heat shrink tubing
I love these videos! It's equally entertaining to learn new approaches to DIY topics as it is to watch obviously highly intelligent people with very little mechanical sympathy try to figure out how tools work. Chuckle. I'll be making one of these in my shop tomorrow morning. Thank you!!!!
Great Video Michael & Justine, The DIY-Tryin Extra's are fun!! I love that you had to google how to unlock the saw!!! Great job though, you saw a problem and figured it out, using the Inner-Net!!! :P
It's kinda sad that we need instructional video on how to cut a piece a wood in half, drill a hole and attach rope. Pretty basic stuff to be honest. And since he was having trouble with the saw, for that piece he could have just used a saw.
To be fair, I wouldn't consider this an instructional video. The steps are literally what you said: cut the dowel down, drill a hole, thread through the rope, and tie some knots. These extras are more for fun :)
DIY Tryin It was a nice video, I would have never thought of making something like that to work out the forearms but now I know. Im not a very active person but I do work on the computer and in the kitchen a lot so something like this would be good to build strength and stamina.
OMG do not let him around power tools! Yes you do push down to unlock the compound miter saw. You scare me my friend you scare me. Patrick you needs to take work room key away from Michael like now..... Stop scaring me man.......

We ended up using fixing the frayed ends of the rope with a lighter. Yay for synthetic rope.
Never thought about the duct tape or the heat shrink! Excellent!
Actually made this after watching your show, actually works great! I like the extra little projects.
