I have the pink one and the bottom gets dirty really fast, so I wash it before with the mild detergent and then alone in the washing machine, that's the only way to get a clean backpack

I used this method with a tiny little bit of detergent and a wash cloth with a little bit of dove soap instead of the sponge and my yellow ocher mini came out really good. Some stains that had been there for months are gone 👌🏻👍🏻

i put mine in the washer ; w ;... i learned that washing the kanken in the washing machine ruins its waterproof coating. and that's what happened ripppp

My pink bag will not come clean......it is unusable now that the bottom is a completely different color. Sad because otherwise it is still in great shape except for the dirt that won’t come out.

I did this except I used a soft wash cloth and it worked Amazing!!! I ride horses and happens to drop mine in dirt and left it hanging on one of the horses Saddle it got very gross and dirty and smelt horrible so I did what it tells you too and now it smells amazing!!! Also no color was faded
I did not expect this for such an expensive bag. It gets dirty quickly and cannot be washed! I have already tried to wash it twice and the only thing I achieved was that it faded. I have only had it for half a year, a big disappointment.

i have had mine for not even 4 months and it's dirty enough that i feel a bit embarrassed carrying it. i want to try this but "mild detergent" is so vague i need to know exactly what to do.
@@gildedpeahen876 My bag was 99€ and is one of the cheaper models. After that, I didn't wash it anymore, I rarely wear it. Try to wash only the parts that are dirty. Maybe best with water only. Mostly not worth the money. Good luck

I’ve washed mine in a washer on cold water, delicate cycle and air dried it outside and it’s just fine.

Hi, Try with luke warm water with a soft brush and bile soap. We don´t recommend stronger detergents.
I want to buy the black kanken 17" laptop. I'm very careful with my stuff and I'll only use it for university or work. My only issue is will the black color fade in the sun? I just love the design but I wouldn't want to wear a faded black to red discolored backpack at work

I had just received/gotten my 15" laptop backpack in Lake Blue (a little regret, the color looks brighter in real life as compared to the website), may I know how long should I be soaking my backpack for? And would it be okay if it's not soaked in lukewarm water, but water straight out from the tap?
Hi, I guess you are referring to the recommendation to rinse your backpack before use? We recommend luke warm water and you can use the water from the tap. A couple of minutes is enough and you can of course put it in a bowl also.

what 'mild detergent' would you recommend? are we talking about diluted dish soap? laundry detergent? baking soda/vinegar?
Baking soda and vinegar is a classic house hold solution which usually work great. Dish soap can be effective on oil stains. If you go to a supermarket they have milder soaps which does not affect color

We had a house fire and my pale pink bag is was covered in soot. I’ve tried hand washing it twice and leaving it to sit in stain remover but nothing will work. Do you think it would be possible to dye the bag pink again? Or is there any better way to clean it?
Hi, We cannot recommend to " re dye" the backpack, we have not tried it.
Hi, please help! I stored my kanken G1000 bag and I think it became moldy. I've tried cleaning with this method multiple times but the stench is still there. How should I clean my kanken now? It's still brand new :(
Hi, Sorry to hear this. Mold can be really trick to clean. We have not specific advice I am afraid. There are some "house-hold advice" out there when it comes to mold on fabrics and if you try those, we recommend to try on a smaller area first. Note that if you would use stronger detergents the color can be affected. If you cannot get rid of the mold I recommend to not use the backpack. I hope this helps!
will vinegar or hydrogen peroxide work? how was it? did you end up disposing your kanken?
@@peachbooks3199 I did not try any of those! my mom wiped it down every other day and placed charcoal and pandan leaves in it. we also put in the silica moisture absorber found in food. after using it for a while the stench reduced a lot!
I just toss mine in the washer with fjallraven pants. Using no softener and a very small amount of detergent to remove any residue. I only wash them every 6 months or 8 months along with my fjallraven bag. Works very well. I also use warm water and a gentle wash.
My mom washed it in the washer, it got all wrinkled, now she straightened it with ironer, is that okay to do? P.s. I have the baby pink one, and it has some white little spots after I washed it
Hi, The fabric is 100% vinylal, so if you use an iron with too much heat the fabric can melt. But if the fabric is OK after your procedure she was careful enough. We don´t recommend to use the iron on the Kånken. If there are white spots on the fabric, the color has been affected after the machine wash, and there is nothing to do about it unfortunately. @ white spots emerge both my bags and I have never washed it.
@@holistic7980 Hi, White spots or stripes, especially at kinks and edges can occur with use and are property of the material and cannot be avoided. The fabric will also get like a patina finish with time/use.

I wished I watched this earlier, I hand washed my (fog coloured) kanken and I scrubbed the areas where it was dirty and now that it's dry those areas have gone lighter and rough.

Hi, I am afraid we don´t have a special trick to remove that kind of stain.
Fjällräven I figured it out!Use a small amount of rubbing alcohol and it wont even ruin the pigment on the bag!

Seriously guys, don't even think to use the hard side of the sponge. I use that to clean my kanken (so I can get rid of the dirt) and after I dried it the color just faded....

Hi, Bile soap is maybe not found in your region, but a mild soap is a soap that is gentle for the fabric and color. The opposite is a strong detergent which can bleach the fabric for instance

Usually one is rinsing the spot after the detergent is applied.

idk if this helps but i have a red one but i just used disinfecting (wet) wipes and scrubbed it. I mean it kinda works by making it lighter but its not like completely clean :)

Hi, Yes, same washing method on the inside. Mold can be really trick to remove unfortunately. There are some advices "out there" with vinegar which can help. We don´t recommend stronger detergents, but if you would use that please try on a little spot on the backpack first to see the result. The color can be affected. It the mold is not possible to remove, we recommend to not use the backpack.

It happened to me the other day and I kind of freaked out in class. With a cloth lightly dipped in paint thinner I patted the stain and seemed to go away without damaging the fabric. I must note though that my backpack is a sand color, not too vibrant nor dark, so idk what the result can be with other colors.

Hi, Our best advise is too use bile soap which is effective on oil and gentle to the fabric and color. We don´t recommend stronger detergents. I hope this will help you.

Hi, Please follow the instructions on the care label inside the backpack. It is washed in luke warm water and a soft sponge/brush. For stains like oil, you can use bile soap which is effective. Stronger detergent is not recommended.
Simple video, but doesn’t explain the reason why you shouldn’t toss it in the machine: it’s because of the oleophobic coating. Just like cycling gear - if you toss it in the machine to wash - you’ll wash out the wax coating. You’ll then have to re-coat it with their wax (they sell this… dunno why they didn’t link it) - or, if you’re stripped for time - an oleophobic spray for garments (which is what cyclists use to re-waterproof their jerseys and other cycle gear). The wax may offer better protection, wear resistance, and stain resistance though - think of it - the dirt is getting stuck in the wax and washing off with the wax.
No, the wax is only for their G-1000 fabric as per fjällräven's instruction. It's not for kånken classic with vinylon material just like in video.
I work for Fjällräven store in Stavanger and you cant wax the original ones that are made in Vinyl F! Only the one in G1000 fabric like the Kånken no 2 series and some kånken art editions and some limited edition kånkens. The best advice I can say to keep it clean is never put it on the ground. And buy raincover to protect it from dirty rain and also use the cover as a travel protection when putting on the floor or under a flight seat. And wash like the video as soon as possible.
Do you soak the backpack first?
If the whole backpack is dirty you can do so.

Hi, We have not tried that so I cannot tell how effective it is. What is effective on severe stains and oil stains is bile soap, and it is also gentle to the fabric/color.

Hi, If there are white spots/marks on the fabric it is not possible to dye the fabric again. The fabric will be affected with time and use and is a property of the fabric. The fabric will also get a bit softer.
How do i get rid of pencil marks on my kanken?
Hi, We do´t have a general advice unfortunately. Pencil marks can be hard to remove and if you use a stronger detergent the color can be affected.
