Anytime one uses bare root planting method like in video when mass still retains fibrous roots, must be extra diligent to stretch them radially outward like wagon wheel in correct directions to avoid future girdling problems.

I planted my Bloodgood maple 3" above grade. BUT it settled and now is 3" below grade.
Tree was very heavy and I guess I dug way too deep. I thought I added enough soil but didn't compress it enough. So the tree after 2 seasons has settled. Don't feel like digging this thing up. So I guess I'll have to deal with it and try to to add mulch or soil on top to make the look "level".

They should have welded the trees into the ground and filled the holes with cement.

Street trees are good - but only if they don't obstruct the footpath. Municipal authorities often don't leave enough room between the roadway and the property boundaries for proper tree planting, instead, they clutter up the sidewalks with all sorts of vegetation which looks nice and green from the road, but pinches the walking space even more. People should be able to walk freely in a straight line without having to duck and weave around all sorts of obstacles.

Its a minor inconvenience when you think of the shade provided, the pollution absorbed, the oxygen given...

@@venividivici4253 They are horrible for the street. The branches break easy and they plant them because they're cheap. They should be planting native trees. They're so much better for their home's ecosystem and they look just as good.

That "dead" tree was still alive. It was just getting new buds at the base of the trunk.

It is functionally dead. Water sprouts in this case are not structurally appropriate for a street tree. It needed replacing

They just start planting trees on city property because they feel like it? I think you can get fined for doing that.

I think they do it for the city, like they go to them beforehand

You can ask the city to plant a tree or plant it yourself as long as it is on the species list ( thats for nyc) its different in other places
