It pisses me off how the anti-landlord crowd is so quick to paint all landlords with the same broad stroke, without realizing that not all landlords are the same. My partner is a landlord, and during this whole pandemic, he has a "pay what you can" policy, and works with his tenants. Of course there are many of his tenants who has taken advantage of not being evicted, so they choose not to pay rent at all even though they were not impacted. This is what makes things difficult for him, because he wants those type of people gone, but can't do anything because no evictions. Yet, the anti-landlord crowd won't hear any of that, all because they don't like paying rent. And let's face it, that's what it all comes down to with those people. They think they should live where they want rent free, and if they can't, then landlords are bad people. They don't seem to grasp that there is more to being a landlord than collecting rent.
Your landlord definitely seems to be a good person for sure, allowing you to pay less given everything.

I was a tenant in good standing for five years, I was late on my rent once and that was the month the moratorium was lifted, I applied and was evicted two months later. Seven months after I was evicted, the assistance I applied for called me and told me they were out of funds and wouldn't be helping me. There are two distinct issues here. One is how to help people facing eviction. The other is government confiscation of private property. No other group of people in this pandemic have been forced to provide a good or service to another except landlords (free housing). Somehow these two issues have been comingled. Many landlords like myself are elderly and invested their retirement to generate income during their retirement. Not slumlords. Not wealthy corporations, just regular, ordinary, hard working people. The politicians had no problem issuing checks to tenants, why is it difficult to do the same to landlords. The rental assistance program has to be applied for by the tenants. Landlords only verifying what they are owed. A landlord cannot initiate the application process and if the tenant refuses, that’s it. We are left out of the process.
I would like to ask this one question for all these “housing advocates”. If you checked your checking account and found some of your $ missing that you worked for. When you questioned where is my $ and we’re told, legislators thought you should give it to someone else so that’s what we did. No laws just unlawful takeover.
