      Just tied a couple of these on a size 14 an 16 hook. Tied one with the dubbing and the other without to give a bash at the weekend. Thanks Davie, you’ve basically taught me how to tie over an iPad lol

    This is one of my most used patterns. Would you change anything 15 years later?

      Hi gmckayak,
      No and I'm going to be tying some in the next day or two for a box I'm working on as it's been a great fly for me over many years as well...

      Hi Lee,
      There's many sell the Yellow Owl Shuttlecock flies online which are very popular now due to it being such a good pattern...I don't take orders now but I am going to fill boxes and offer them in a draw to anyone that donates to my UA-cam channel each month..You may have seem my post on the community page, this month I'm giving away a box of salmon flies and the actual flies I filmed and tyed in the videos over the same month...One item per person so there will be more than one person getting something for doing this...
      All the very best Davie

    Hi Davie, Is there any chance you could run up a quick video on tying a suspender hare's ear buzzer with the ethafoam head? I'm not so confident at using foam...
    Thanks for the videos,
    Iain MacMaster.

    Hi, Davie-
    I believe you mentioned a preference for the foam. Have you experimented with folding the CDC in a small, tight loop? Similar concept as CDC Emerger, but tighter loop.

    Do you ever fish shuttlecocks on the rivers?

      Hi Mike,
      They do work just as well on the river and I've tyed them down to a size 24 though if you have even smaller they will work just as well..

    Davie what hook would you suggest for tyings larger than 16. Will the same hook pattern be too heavy?

    Hi Davie, where are you getting your quills? Anytime I buy they're never as wide as the one's you're using.

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  7 років тому +1

      Hi mag81,
      They came from Veniards, so what you have to do is ask your local shop that stock their materials and ask them to order the 100 Extra Large Peacock Eyes and you will get the better quills. I normally get about 50% of them like the ones I used in this video though I do use the others for normal patterns..I hope this is of some help to you..

    Davie...I am so impressed with your talent as a tyer. Simple patterns, creative and with a little practice...I can pull a few of these off. I especially like your cdc/deer hair emergers and some of your deer hair wets. Question...what type of quill do you use for your bodies and how long should the quills be for a size 14?

    how old is the cdc version of this pattern sir?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  7 років тому +2

      Hi Tony,
      The Yellow Owl has been tyed for many years and there's many variants of this pattern and this is just one of them, I'm a great fan of using quills for bodies like many tyers so this is a variant and one I caught many fish on when I was a fishery manager in the late 90s until I left in 2006 although I have caught many fish with it since both on rivers and lochs..
