Wife and I are house hunting right now and I'm gonna have to update the criteria a bit, 'must be able to shoot from dining table' is definitely a must. Great review 👍
The reason Tikka/Sako barrels do not need to be broken in is because these barrels do not have their riflings machine cut in. They are cold hammer forged into the barrel. With a jig inside the barrel. Still never a bad idea to run a quick patch before first fire. After that go to town. No need to clean between shots as there is no machining inside these barrels.
Tikka and Sako barrels dont need running in.....and that's from one of the bosses at the Sako factory ...he says "they're ready to go from new"😉....all barrels and chambers are inspected before assembly for any Mark's or defects ..
The Tikka barrels are Cold Hammer Forged so the bores will be clean and smooth from the factory. Tikka guarantees 3rd groups for 1MOA, they’ll do 5rd groups for 1MOA for the T3X TACT and Varmint rifles - same as Sako’s standard. Something to consider with the Hornady ammo, I tried 5 or 6 types of Hornady alone in my Tikkas, they generally like the Match line and do well with the Black line as well. Great review.
Dammit! Honey your cluttering up my shooting table with all this shit ( flower arrangement, @ place mats etc.) Move this shit, i have no room to shoot @ go upstairs and get me 20 of my handloads.
Considering my local laws, I spent 4 years choosing a riffle and settled on a T3 CTR in .308. I wanted the Super Varmint with heavy barrel, but no bueno. I have a hunting licensed gun that has never gone hunting, it's a med PSR riffle that I took @ 1600 meters competition and finished 19th out of 23! Great barrel out the box, stock stock sux, action is smooth as silk after 100+ rounds and trigger is adjustable (mine is 420 grams, stock trigger), great riffle. The Super Varmint is a tad better due to barrel thickness and length, however no picatiny, no muzzle thread, same messed up stock. So extra costs of configuration. I believe Tikkas are best bang for buck, at least where I am, although Bergara is giving them a run for the money with the B-14, however I hate the the REM-700 trigger/safety. Bergara Spain is a barrel manufacturer, they make great barrels , backed by a rem 700 action/trigger, the premier series is something to look at. Bergara premier series is a bit more expensive than a T3x stock. I just love the trigger of the Tikka out the box, however the Bergara premier comes with an aftermarket trigger group (based on Rem 700) and they add a bit of bedding in the stock out the box. Just beware, the Tikka CTR is between barrels profiles, it's not a super varmint, but comes with most accessories out the box. P.s. The Tikka T3x Super Varmint is the gun to get, than modify it. ,,,,or a Bergara Premier, if you have the money
So true what you say… Got myself a .308 CTR SS 20”, just because the Super Varmint wasn’t available at the time. Now I ordered the Super Varmint in 300WM. Still keeping the CTR 🤪
Nicely done video with practical common sense techniques for new rifle break in and testing procedure. Great information for the average shooters, especially newer ones. Obviously not your first rodeo. Like the way you roll... I have a shooting bench in the upstairs bedroom for sniping squirrels in the orchard. I'm currently considering a CTR in .308 (wind cheater) because the T3x Varmint in .223 I bought a couple years ago will put 10 Federal 69g GMM under a dime at 100 and a quarter at 200. Tikka delivers great value. The CTR in a KRG Bravo chassis, the UPR, and a Sako S20 Precision are the finalists. Thank you for your contribution.
One of my best friends has a Tikka in 6.5 Creedmoor, in a KRG chassis. That rifle is INCREDIBLY accurate. In February of 2019, he shot a fox at 700 yards with it. I seen him do it... right off my kitchen table. Lol true story.
Lol thanks man, the weather was a little on the bitter side, so I opened a screen on the other side of the room to get better ventilation while doing this. Plus, the dining room table is a bit closer to the coffee pot than my shooting bench.
I agree with all your words, excellent weapon. Thanks for the video,I learned something! Mine setup with Crimson Trace 6-24-56. Little heavy, but not so bad.
There are no tooling marks from machining (as you stated) in a hammer forged barrel my friend. And the debris on the very first patch you ran is more than likely from the two test fire rounds fired at the test bench in the factory. In my humble opinion.
You are correct in my opinion. The only place there might be any tooling marks, may be from the chambering process, in which case that would only be (to my knowledge) in he throat area. I don’t think the chambers are hammer forged, (again, I could be wrong), I believe the bores are. Either way, ‘breaking in’ the barrels on all my rifles is something I’ve just done out of habit. Most of the time, I’m not sure of the processes used to make the rifle barrels the manufacturers use, so I just do it on my own. Even still, allot of people don’t break in any barrel, they just go out and shoot them, and allot of the time, they shoot great anyway 🤷🏼♂️
As per the Tikka manual at the factory they shoot two overpressure cartridges in order for the rifle to pass CIP testning (equivalent of SAAMI testing) followed by some regular Sako FMJ rounds for the accuracy test (I'd guess 3 or 5 rounds) so 5-7 rounds fired before being shipped off to the vendor/retailer
"This rifle has not been fired yet..." Yes it is. Every Tikka / Sako rifle is test shot in the factory to check that it shoots under the quaranteed 1 MOA.
Because they are a Hammered fluted barrel there are no burrs to speak of... hence they require no break in and yes they were fired at Factory not quite brand new. I've seen it!
I think the last couple of shots you were not entirely happy with was because you do not take into calculations of the dining room crosswind which occurs occasionlly haha
Should be titled "the wife isn't home gun review". My wife would shoot me if I shot off my kitchen table. Nice rifle, I just put an order in for one, unfortunately, you can't get a hold of a stainless model anymore.
Yeah, I make sure the wife is at work when I shoot out the kitchen door lol it’s when I’m shooting the 338 Lapua off the table that things REALLY start getting ugly. When that goes off, it knocks things off the wall, stops the clock in the dining room and sets the fire alarms into a chirp mode lol great times... I try to make sure the house is aired out by the time she gets home. 👍🏼
Not from rifling, but I always thought that there would be tooling from chambering, where the throat meets the rifling. (?)🤷🏼♂️ I always liked the idea of breaking in any barrel, for the sake of things like that, no matter the process of it’s making. It’s habit for me.
@@DialingLongDistance depends if the chamber was formed during the HF process. If yes, then not tool marks, if no, then there may be tool marks in the chamber.
All rifles have been fired before an owner receives it. First by the factory and, in most countries, by someone at a ‘proof house’ to ensure our safety.
Hey I'm interested to know why you shoot right handed when you are left handed? Is it awkward with the action? Please get back to me if I can as I'm left handed looking to buy a left handed Tikka ctr BUT IF i can go right handed and save money that would help. Thank you!
The rifle in this video is chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. I am in fact a left handed shooter. From the age of 4, I have always shot right handed actions. 👍🏼
It’s an F Class bipod from Sinclair. They have models with or without an elevation adjustment on the bipod. The one I have is without. Yeah I know what you mean. I thought the same thing when I looked at it also. However, I’ve had such good luck with Tikka’s in the past I went ahead and purchased the Roughtech. It’s definitely a different way of doing things, but it works, and seems to work quite well!
This was my cousins rifle that I was setting up. However, all of my own rifles are also right handed. I have always shot right handed rifles since I was four years old. I can shoot right or left-handed, but I am slightly left eye dominant,.
You must be living in the middle of nowhere out in no man’s land in order to be able to shoot from your dining room. Also this must be a Second Amendment friendly state. If you live in any DemocRAT 🐀 runs states or cities, there is no way in hell you can do this. Nice tactical rifle from Finland. Thank you for sharing.
He's inside his house? Shooting inside the house?!?!?!? What a legend. God bless this man. I love America
Hell...looks like from the dining room table.
Great place to hunt from...cuz that's where it's going...
100% agree!
The 308 ammo is in the pantry next to the peanut butter….awesome!
If he would rig up one of those suction tubes the use at the banks drive thru teller to his mailbox, then he would have no need to leave the house! 💥

No machining dust inside that barrel. The rifle is test fired in the factory. They're also not machines barrels
Barrel break time n is BS!! Great rifle!!
I typically cook in my kitchen, but hey… to each their own! Good video though! Thanks.
A good plan for break-in is to use the longest and slowest bullets you can get for your caliber.
No need for break-in with Tikka/Sako weapons. Look up on the interenet on how they make nad streatch the barells. Nice review :)

Cold hammer forged barrels don't need a break in. There's no Sharp edges in that process.

Why is the first screw (from barrel muzzle end) on the picatinney rail unscrewed?
U can buy it in left hand action

Looking to get one in 308, that goes for 1395 up here in Canada ( where they still allow to own one).
@King James Bible Believer 1611 That's exactly what I have my eyes on....thank you!
@King James Bible Believer 1611 looks like the Tactical replaced the CTR
@King James Bible Believer 1611 Ya they may still offer ctr but is 20in all that is needed for 308win?

that gun has been shot at the factory at least 3 times. so there will not be any machining residue in that barrel.
